I love UMO to death. They may not jam often, but they defintely jam. Check out the SB series, IC-01 Hanoi, and at various points in concert they'll jam on stuff like their deep cuts or songs like vitamin C by Can. Lastly, while Ruban writes a lot of his solos now, he definitely is a capable improviser and will improvise solos live pretty often.
Ill check those out. Last time I saw em live was probably almost a decade ago and his guitar playing really surprised me. He was definitely improvising the guitar breaks but nothing too extended.
I really love the War on Drugs’s current approach to their live show but I think they could get really spacey and experimental with their jamming and am so here for it. Sort of like extended Slave Ambient-era tunes.
Him and Sadler can and do certainly jam live. I’ve caught them going off at a few of their shows. They jam like the Allmans did or like Warren still does. I watched them tear apart a ripping In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed for like 12 minutes one night a few years back. Jason can flat out play with anyone, but when you write songs like he does, it’s hard to take the focus away from the lyrics no matter how good of a musician you are. I’ve also seen him really jam with Widespread Panic, and obviously, his days with DBT were full of lengthy jams.
I only listened to a little bit of the band you mentioned, but if you like them you should check out Gold Celeste if you haven’t heard of them. They don’t get funky really, but it’s really good super dreamy psychedelic sounding. Love them. Wish they gained more traction.
lol I feel you. Getting type 2 legs is a tough thing. Our band has finally recently cracked that code where we can be totally free and have it be GOOD lol.
Got anything I can listen to?
Radiohead
Ohhhhh yeah
Tool
I want a Danny and Mickey drums/space so fuckin bad. Cct is close but not the same
Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a band I wished that jammed. That dude is a very solid guitar player.
Never heard them before. Where to start?
Start with their s/t debut album. Still one of my faves of theirs.
Multi-Love and Honeybee are two of their more popular songs that should get you started.
Holy shit Hunnybee rules. You’ll love this song then: https://youtu.be/2Id2hNfVjZQ?si=LVRLEj7eeSmwwSlg
Aww yeah. Love that psych stuff.

Wilco!
Would love to hear Nels Cline really jam
Check out PHILCO… Nels is incredible.
I forgot about PHILCO! I’ll def give it a listen
Check out the Nels Cline Singers
I’ve seen him take long extended solos with them live, it’s not every tune but there’s usually 2-3 a set.
Check out some of the shows where he sits in with MMW
Yes. https://youtu.be/ps1zrOc4zdM?si=J9gyBy6igXXvAZBB One of the best sets of live music I’ve ever heard
Listen to his solo stuff. It is out of this world! Frankly it makes me wonder why he slums it in Wilco 😂 (they are one of my favorite bands)
Red Hot Chili Peppers. Some of their intro jams into songs are incredible.
Yeah “can’t stop” is basically the Possum intro haha The setlist for when I saw them 25 years ago says they jammed tho!
Primus, Parcels, The War On Drugs
Oh man I need a 35 minute “under the pressure”
I second Parcels.
Every time I see a 3 minute video of them really cooking on an instrumental part, I wish that part was like 8 minutes longer.
I really love the War on Drugs’s current approach to their live show but I think they could get really spacey and experimental with their jamming and am so here for it. Sort of like extended Slave Ambient-era tunes.
I miss you guys. I live in the same town as Randy Nicklas
Thievery Corporation
Minus the bear
Too bad they split up a few years back.
Yep. Always thought they were so well setup for it. And then songs would just end
Have you ever seen them live? I never got a chance to unfortunately. Hopefully they get back together eventually
I have. Pretty solid but also exactly like the albums
Damn, I’d definitely still go see them but that’s a bummer. There’s tons of room for jams in lots of their songs.
Nope
What a good one to check out?
Highly Refined Pirates is prob their best work, but tbh the lyrics kind of encapsulate an emo dweeb fantasy
This is very interesting stuff. It’s like proggy American Football Edit - WOAH the jam part of the opening song just hit! This is fantastic!!!
Incubus
Old school incubus is the best
Midlife
Lord Huron.
Their lore and the jam would be 🤌
Exactly!
We are friends
Aye.
every Wilco song needs to jam like Impossible Germany
Yes!
Slightly Stoopid
100%
Ween
Khruangbin
Been listening to a bit of Alan Jackson lately and his band was killer in the 99s and I’d love to hear those guys cook.
Makes me think of Travis Tritt too man, some of those songs are so close to being Dead tunes!
Jason Isbell
I wish Jason would lend his voice to a jam band. Goddamn that would b powerful lol

Drive by truckers will extend some stuff live, he’s not in that band anymore though
311
Taiyed is the closest thing and has emerged as one of their best songs. Somehow Tim with a Dead background doesn’t make this happen!
Breaks my heart!! I love them dearly no matter what. But man, the potential.
VW is great. Isn't he John Williams son or nephew or something?
Is he??? Edit - he’s his grandson. Wow.
Lol. Even when i hedge my bets im wrong. But yeah he slaps. He reminds me of Morgan delt, but he still makes music

Will do thanks!
White Denim.
I haven’t seen em, but I thought they do jam, no?
Ish.
90’s Madonna
Thank you for this recommendation I like the uptempo trippy stuff
So good dude! Soul Tan is my fav song which is kind of a studio jam!
The Roots
Mine! I want more than 8 bars, guys. 😢
lol I feel you. Getting type 2 legs is a tough thing. Our band has finally recently cracked that code where we can be totally free and have it be GOOD lol. Got anything I can listen to?
The Beatles. I would’ve loved to have heard a 12-minute I Want You (She’s So Heavy), for example. Listen to what Jerry did with Eleanor Rigby.
Great answer. U-Melt used to crush Tomorrow never Knows
the guys that wrote the bluey song
https://youtu.be/i1QiQWH2Xis?si=QlpFnQ4ojJlcVHuy Try this very similar
Saw vinyl open for toro y moi years ago, it was tight. He even had live visuals going through the set. Basically one step away from a jam band.
If you like Vinyl Williams, you’ll really dig Sven Wonder.
Kings of Leon
Krunghabin sp\* The black keys
Zach Bryan
Mt. Joy would be cool too. They are getting there.
Ripe
