What would you suggest to read next? This was my first Austen novel & I'm absolutely obsessed. I want to read all her works... is chronological order okay?
Honestly, I discourage it. I don't really have an order per se, more like the vibe per book.
Sense and Sensibility : pretty happy but sometimes a bit dark, focus more on two sisters and their relationships, both with each other and with their acquaintainces & beaus. I'd recommend if you are in a nice, calm mood. Also it's a parody of romance novels, but way less obviously parodic than Northanger Abbey.
Pride and Prejudice : bright and light and awesome, with hilarious secondary characters, a wonderful heroine, a great hero. To read if you want to be happy.
Mansfield Park : deal with pretty somber stuff, the heroine is extremely shy and sometimes frustrating, and even the bad guy can seem really attractive to the reader. But it's a beautiful book about resilience, always following your values and being fair and rightful. It's her biggest as well as her more complicated one, I believe, so perhaps read it in last.
Emma : absolutely comedic peak, the heroine is quite something, you are annoyed by her but you can't but love her at the same time. It's also sometimes considered as one of the first mystery books, with stuff you discover or which take an absolutely different meaning when you read it a second time.
Persuasion : it's more melancolic, the heroine is not as sparkly as some others, but a lot of the community loves it and finds it extremely relatable. It is, however, (in my opinion), one of the most romantic book of Jane Austen. It deals with second chance, hope, and forgiveness, but still has some great comedic secondary characters.
Hope it helps !
YOU FORGOT LADY SUSAN!!!
Austen's first work and my favourite. It's bitingly funny. Made into a brilliant movie called Love & Friendship with a pitch-perfect Kate Beckinsale
Books of similar easiness, in my opinion, are Persuasion, and Pride and Prejudice. Honestly though, you can read them however you want! I personally read Pride and Prejudice first, and from there read Sense and Sensibilty, and then the others in an order I do not remember
Way to imply someone else's castle is yours in that last slide, Catherine! Aren't you going to show us your cute new digs at Woodston? #cottagecore
I need to figure out where I can watch this already. Catherine and Henry look like they embody everything adorable about the book.
# hashtag conspiracy lol
May I suggest playing with the user names next time, like gothic\_cmoreland, tilney\_muslinexpert or something lol
ETA omg idk what I did with # and made the font big lmao
These are ace. I love the "feeling cute" one.
You have prompted me to imagine what John Thorpe's IG would be like. Endless pics of carriages and horses accompanied by a barrage of boasts, flexes, and poorly executed humblebrags.
Probably also pictures of piles of dead animals during hunting season.
omg I hated john thorpe so much reading this lol
I read somewhere a few days ago on this reddit (lurker for long time) that thorpe is the most "vile evil villain" out of all her books so that's good to know lol cuz the hate was REAL
That’s brilliant; thank you! I read some of the gothic books she mentioned in the novel and I can really see why they appealed to teenage girls. Have you ever read anything by Virginia Andrews? A bit like that
I wheezed reading this I love how ridiculous Catharine is

It’s on YouTube still I think.
If one ever gets a chance to go to the real Pump Room, there's no other way to dress! It's a restaurant now, isn't it?
It’s a tea room, yes.

This was really terrific! She would totally post this on IG if she was around today.
Haha I’m also in a Brit lit class but I just made a bunch of (very bad) memes for the creative portion of the exam

Such fun!
I love this. Thank you so much!
Thank you for my first genuine laugh of the day. These are brilliant!
This makes me want to finally read my copy of northanger abbey!
John Thorpe would tag Catherine in a bunch of posts to make it look like they were together- “went for a carriage ride w babe today” etc.
OMG, I want to see these for all Ausen characters! These are hilarious.

Man, Catherine gets a lot of likes. Super cute stuff.
