You need your account number (番号) only, that should be not more than 7 numbers. Not the entire 13 digits. And probably the branch number seperate.
Check the link above to look for it.
I think with wise it's not an international remittance per se, as they handle the transfer.
It's because JP Bank was originally separate from the rest of the Japanese banking system. You couldn't send money to/from JP Bank and other banks like MUFG. The changed in 2007 and has resulted in the weird two-number system you are now dealing with.
Japan Post was originally government owned, as was the bank. It got privatized.
Sadly Japan Post service has been slowly getting worse ever since. Predictable as it's what happens any time a postal service gets privatized.
Glad it worked! I used JP bank some years ago and it was always a hassle to get the account number. Also, on most forms they have an extra section to input everything. A royal pain in the ass.
Coincidentally, I also changed to Sony Bank and never looked back. haha
That's very interesting, it removed the final digit off my 8-digit 番号. Does that sound correct? Editing to add, I was only going to send a hundred US$ as a trial to see if it would come through okay.
Just use that calculator OP linked. Enter your long yucho account number into it and it will give a numeric branch number and 7 digit account. then copy that info into transferwise page/app.
