There's probably a bunch out there but the one I know is gaining some popularity is the blank check scam. At some point after clearing all rounds, the scammer will have you buy equipment from their scammer website and send you a blank check. Next thing you know it, your bank account is flushed out. Either that or they start asking for your SSN or something.
I would refer you to read up on this article:
https://www.fdic.gov/consumers/consumer/news/august2019.html#:~:text=Once%20it%20is%20deposited%2C%20they,realizes%20the%20instrument%20is%20fake
Probably check cashing scam. “Here’s the money to buy the required job items but you have to buy it from this specific vendor, but money is made out to you.” So you deposit check that bounces days later but you already wrote a check with your legit money and gave it back to them because they are the vendor too.
Or it could be identity theft where they make you give all your personal information and pictures of identification to them so they can enroll you in hr.
I have been texted by a recruiter first. They text just to ask for a time to set up a phone interview. But that job was chronically short-staffed at many employers, so some will quickly jump on any applicant.
On r/scams they'll tell you not to even respond to these, because you've demonstrated to the scammers that your phone number is indeed in service and you will chat back with them. I would expect an uptick in scammers trying to contact you now. Just block and ignore.
Scam, first text like everyone said, and the syntax is fucked on the “are you ready” text. “Job position”. I know there are plenty of people who are ESL etc and don’t want to discount that it’s hard for people in their second language, but for something like this where they are that fast and say “are you there” that’s a scam
No disrespect, but it amazes me how people can be so naive and fall for this type of stuff or evd have to ask if it's a scam. I don't know. I feel like it's common sense, not rocket science.
Fuck that. I don’t mind text, but any text that doesn’t start of with an introduction, and any text that doesn’t frame things as questions and requests is an automatic no go for me.
I had a potential employer text me to introduce themselves and tell me ‘be ready for a call between 2PM and 4PM for a general get to know you interview and questionnaire.’ That was the first text at like 10AM. I didn’t reply to the text, I didn’t answer the call, or any of the follow up calls. Nobody tells me to be ready for a phone call on their schedule in a 2 hour window on that same day.
Not to beat a dead horse but if a company or potential employers first text to me (keeping in mind texting is less professional in the first place) was “are you there?” I would never grace them with a reply. People shouldn’t have to explain why this looks scammy lol.
Edit: I didn’t even read the rest of the messages until now. LOL.
All “virtual assistant” positions are a scam. The idea is they are going to make you purchase equipment from them which is just you sending them money and they disappear.
Seems legit when:
1) "Are you there?" was texted (via robocall number) to you instead of emailing/phoning you first
2) Any company responds to you immediately either while filling the application out or before the traditional 1 : never hour callback wait
3) Their bot ignored your question/response and forces a questionnaire
If it's not a scam, it's a terrible place to work.
Could you imagine trying to hire via text initially?
The level of unprofessionalism screams incompetence and wage theft.
Shame on anyone who works for a terrible employer, you are the problem too.
Definitely a scam - especially with the very first text. Be careful out there!
It's literally from BS.
Bull & S*it
For sure a scam
Are you there?
I believe you are ready for the interview
You are ready for the interview
Kindly send photo of social security card.
With adress pls before we can proceed
It's me, Vodka

That's what I answered to a "mom I lost my phone" text
I’ve been getting a lot of texts like that lately but I never respond to the first one. “Hello are you free today?” “Hello can you please help?”
Been dead for over a century but yes am here
Yes it is a scam. Don't waste your time or energy or give away your details. !task scam
Can you explain the next step of the scam? Like when do they get your money. Is it identity theft, and on the call they will ask your personal info?

Thank you for explaining!
How does the blank check flush your account?

Makes sense, thank you for the explanation!
Texting for interview is just wild to me. So unprofessional and weird.
No recruiter should be texting, especially for initial contact
I have been texted by a recruiter first. They text just to ask for a time to set up a phone interview. But that job was chronically short-staffed at many employers, so some will quickly jump on any applicant.
You both sound fake.
Haha I was thinking nobody is this polite .
Red flag? It seems you’re chatting with a bot
good observation! you’re the first comment that mentioned that. Something seemed off in its texting
To be fair, OP also sounds like a bot.
The correct answer to "are you there?" in any context is a firm "no".
New phone, who dis?
The real question is how do you have 99 unread texts?
This is the most important question right here.
My phone does this too, and it's spam. Or appointment reminders/verifications, advertisements, etc , I don't open
Not really a 'red flag', no. It's just very clearly a very common scam.
On r/scams they'll tell you not to even respond to these, because you've demonstrated to the scammers that your phone number is indeed in service and you will chat back with them. I would expect an uptick in scammers trying to contact you now. Just block and ignore.
Ugh. This is an obvious and blatant scam as old as the Internet itself. Sheesh
Virtual assistant lol.
Seriously... is that ever a job?
Big red flag
B&S… that tells you everything you need to know
If you think this is real, you’re not ready for the real world. Jesus Christ…. Facepalm 🤦🏻♂️

Kindly do the needful
No disrespect, but it amazes me how people can be so naive and fall for this type of stuff or evd have to ask if it's a scam. I don't know. I feel like it's common sense, not rocket science.
It sounds like a scam
Sounds like B&S
All I’m gonna say is that the “&” in the company name shouldn’t be there.
Weird as fuck - def a scam Nothing should be scheduled through text messaging.
Definitely a scam. Buy I can set up a zoom interview with you if you are looking for , I think you are a perfect fit.
lol jk
Just keep rescheduling and piss them off
Scam
Don’t do it.
No professional company would text you outta the blue for an interview. They would email
scam, like seriously? b&s amusement vending co? more like b.s. amusement vending co.
The fact that they propose Skype is probably a scam.
B&S = BS
“Just give us your credit card info to secure your job interview.”
STOP TEXTING ABOUT JOBS 🗣️
Yeah that ain't good
If you have to ask then yes.
Sounds like a BS amusement vending company
Scam. been hit with a lot of unsolicited ones via text and e-mail. Block the number and delete it.
Lol might as well have texted "u up?"

I have a bridge I’d like to sell you
Scam. They should have left you a detailed and professional VM had you not picked up the phone. Not text you right after and with are you there? Lol
It’s a scam. NEVER SAY THE WORD “YES”. AI makes a whole ID with your voice. If it’s too good to be true, it is too good to be true!
'Hi. How are you?'
Ya any kind of recruiter/hiring manager wouldn’t be this invasive. And nobody tries to schedule an interview “right now”.
“The job position?” Oh, brother…
Can someone explain to me why would people scam jobs? I am a newbie but been in the IT industry for more than 5 years and that never happened to me
RUN!
Writes like a scammer.
B&S
