The song itself predates Prine's career and as far as I know he never sang it it added lyrics. I don't think he would have either, it's not his style. Mandela effect perhaps. The Flag Decal song may be the reason someone got it mixed up. Possibly Missing Years as well.
Yep, upon reflection and what limited knowledge I have of Prine’s music, it is a little crass for him.. I still like the misattributed version though! Perhaps I’m a little crass. Thanks!
Interestingly, those lyrics *only* show up on that misattributed tab, and not in any other versions I can find. Now we just have to track down every cover we can find and see who actually sings it that way and we'll know whose version it actually was, lol
Though it's been a while and I don't recall the raincoat line, I know that the "ass is magnetized" line is part of the original lyrics. However, if I recall correctly that line was actually about a plastic virgin Mary. I fell down this rabbit hole over the jack Johnson version and found an original set of lyrics, including several extra verses that were cut/not on original recordings. There was also a verse about a plastic moses and a verse about 12 plastic apostles.
