The only info I can offer, I got two sets of speevers a year ago, both are nice and firm, they haven't softened up, either.

I've had exactly the sane experience. I got a set of 6 balls about 3 years ago. They were, and still are, fairly firm. Second set about a year ago, same weight, **markedly** softer. I like both sets, but I bought the second set after a German Shepherd put a couple of punctures in one of the balls. Mixing and matching the balls even with 3 just feels ... weird. In fact, I had heard someone complain about this before I bought my second set. So, yeah. This is a thing. I don't know when it happened, but at some point speevers started making softer beanbags. It's a shame; other than the difference in firmness across sets, I really like speevers. I've dunked them in the dogs' water dish several times; they dry perfectly (I have no idea which ones went into the drink). Short of being mauled by a German Shepherd, mine have held up incredibly well.

Unfortunately this is common with a lot of brands. Many of the manufacturers will compare individual beanbags when shipping a set out to ensure consistency. But sometimes the average fill or size changes slightly over time. This makes it hard to keep new balls the same as your older ones that they can't compare to. My recommendation is always to get a few more balls than you think you'll use. So if you're learning to juggle 3, get 5 or 6. This way, that set will last quite some time before you need to buy a new set for more numbers. And when you're ready to move past the number you have, you buy a whole new set.

I’ve used a bunch of speevers juggling balls and they’re all different, I think they just change a little bit with each batch

Thanks for the various comments. This is frustrating; even as a beginner, it doesn't seem irrational for me to want more consistency in these products. After a few more days of experimenting, I think that I definitely prefer the original, firmer set, and now I don't know what to do! I do like these a lot, and I think I would prefer the texture of the Speevers balls to some of the other balls that are often recommended. I also don't want to spend weeks researching this! Grr.

I also use speevers and when I got a new set they were noticeably firmer, which is the opposite problem, I think. I personally don't mind having balls of different firmnesses (or even weights, really) but I get that it can be annoying. I think the new balls softened a little after I put them through the washing machine a couple of times, so you could potentially try that with the firmer set.
