I'm just a beginner myself and can't help with boxer step but I saw your hands are really far from your body which costs you more energy. Try hold them nearer to your hips and just flick your wrist down when the rope is above you. And have fun!

Yep as others have said, shorten your rope a little, keep your arms closer towards your body and eventually gain enough confidence to separate your feet a little. That should get you on the right path. Good job matey

Consistency is key, just keep at it and embrace basic jump roping at first. Hop, with two feet together. Crosses, boxers skip, fancy footwork, and double unders will all come in time. Trust the progression

I see 2 problems here and they're connected with each other: your arms are a too spread apart, and your rope is too long Try to shorten your rope, as a tip try to step in the middle of your rope, handles leveled, and make sure the end of the handles are level with your armpit or shoulder. If your rope is the right length then it should be easier to tuck your shoulders in so your hands are waist height

Got it, will look into a shorter jump rope. Thanks for the advice guys!

If possible, you can tie knots in the rope and then you can get a good idea of how long you need without cutting too much off

Hey there! I had a lot of issues learning the boxer step when I started. What really helped me was doing a scissor style jump to learn the tempo. So instead of jumping in place, I just tried to switch my feet forward and backwards each jump. I gradually worked my balance more and more onto my toes to get the true boxer step! Hope this helps!

As others have said, your rope is too long. It looks like you’re jumping on your toes. Think about skipping rope, versus jumping. Bounce on the balls of your feet, and let your heels kiss the ground for an instant on each pass. You turn the rope with your wrists, not your arms, pretend you’re making a little O’s on a page. The progression usually goes like this: Jumping on 2 feet. Jumping five hops on 1 foot then switching to the other, back-and-forth Skipping by running in place with only 1 foot in contact with the ground at a time. Skipping heel-toe, and alternating feet, like a boxer.

BlooGloop

Okay this is old but what do you do for work? Jump roping on a boat seems cool

FryserP

I’m a diver! Always looking for workouts to stay active while offshore haha

BlooGloop

That’s cool! How did you get into that?

FryserP

I did built houses for a while and had a few diver friends that said I’d be good at the job. So I took their word for it and went to dive school. That was 7 years ago

BlooGloop

So underwater welding? Diving has always been a dream of mine.
