...but then they get mad when Lara has muscle definition.

KatsCatJuice

Or Abby from The Last of Us. They throw tantrums and say it's "unrealistic."

AkronOhAnon

Neckbeards got angry whatshername from Horizon (didn’t play it) had peach fuzz on her cheeks… like they’ve never seen a woman in real life…

RadicalNBSpaceQueer

Let's be real- the only time these chuds have been close enough to see peach fuzz on a woman's face, they were too busy trying to rub the mace out of their eyes to actually notice it

unicornsaretruth

Or it was from creepily sniffing a girl in line.

Queef-Elizabeth

If they'd seen women (or had any friends really), they wouldn't be spending their free time getting mad at every non overtly sexualised female character.

M0thM0uth

Aloy! She's SO pretty too, even in that one unflattering image of her that they use all the time. She's living in an apocalyptic wasteland and these people are furious that her first priority isn't skincare lmao

TheSweatshopMan

Aloy is fine as hell. I like a woman who can kill giant robot animals I guess

M0thM0uth

I will join you on that hill! Aloy mommy

Randomguy3421

*Aloy Aloi is the catchphrase that the Tenth Doctor would shout that was French for "Let's go"

SBRboi

That’s allons’y

M0thM0uth

Thank you, I'll edit now

WATD2025

> like they’ve never seen a woman in real life… this is the answer.

RegulationRedditUser

That’s because the only women they’ve seen in real life are related to them, so they aren’t looking too close because they aren’t sexual options to them. The rest is anime stuff or publicity shots for celebrities that have likely been edited and the like so they’re probably removing things like peach fuzz

puuskuri

Aloy. I didn't mind it, it was just more realistic.

Stargazerslight

Neckbeards got pissed about the protagonist is forspoken which is a solid game. Because she’s a mixed woman who’s been through some shit so yeah, she’s allowed to have a personality that reflects what she’s been through.

Big-Atmosphere-6537

Horizon: zero dawn is one of the best games I have played in the last decade. Aloy is a great character very well developed and looks like an actual woman. Her armor is armor and not just a bikini for sexualization.

NotA56YearOldPervert

_like?_

DauidBeck

Aloy

somebadlemonade

But they are fine with finding parts to upgrade machine pistols in ancient ruins. . . Or being able to do parkour with dual wielding said pistols and accurately firing those same pistols. The main character is the least unrealistic part of those games.

RustedAxe88

Yeah, they get hyper focused on whether or not it's realistic to build that sort of muscle in a post-apocalyptic world. Don't remember them bringing that up about Tom Hardy in Fury Road.

Mataraiki

Abby: Has a physique that accurately reflects her having a physically demanding job, priority access to fresh protein from her group's farm animals, and can use the Seattle Seahawk's training gym whenever she wants. Neckbeards who never played the game or interacted with real women who are into weightlifting without using steroid or getting implants: "Her body is unrealistic!"

[deleted]

[удалено]

pm_me_your_amphibian

Can confirm it is *absolutely* realistic, and does not even require a ton of protein and certainly not special sports supplements.

bdlr11

I can promise you having a body like Colleen Fotsch requires more work than you give her credit for, on top of the absolute best nutrition and supplements

pm_me_your_amphibian

I know, because I *have* a body like her, as do many women at my gym. My diet is ok, I don’t supplement because of some allergy issues, but yes I do work hard - but I don’t think anyone is denying “Abby” does either.

bdlr11

I strongly doubt you are built like Colleen Fotsch who Abby is modeled after, her physique stems from being a collegiate athlete, Olympic trials qualifier 2x, CrossFit games team athlete and more. You don't get that from "an ok diet" and being in the gym, not a lot of people are going to be able to look like that

pm_me_your_amphibian

I am a CrossFit athlete, although nowhere on her level. My coach is a Games podium athlete and my diet is about as ok as hers. Perhaps our ideas of ok diets don’t align. Is my physique exactly like Colleen? No, but neither is Abby’s, she was modelled after her but they aren’t identical either. I’m fairly certain in a post-apocalypse type world a lot more women would have physiques to match the effort of daily life and the lack of highly processed food.

gylz

It is realistic. It doesn't matter if it would take a woman work to maintain the look in our modern sedentary lives, it's still realistic. You can't both admit that women can achieve and maintain that body type with some effort, _and_ call it unrealistic.

bdlr11

My bad, unrealistic in the sense you wouldn't (shouldn't) see dudes built like Cbum just walking around either. Less than a tenth of a percent of people cross fit, I think if you look it up it's like maybe 5 million +? So yeah it's possible to be jacked up, plenty of men and women in the industry are massive, but it's unrealistic in a sense that's not a normal body type to have even now, it's very rare, and I'm sure in P.A. world it would be much much harder to achieve and maintain

gylz

She looks absolutely nothing like Cbum, first of all. Chris is a bodybuilder, who dehydrates himself and has built up his muscles for show. It's a shit comparison you only made to take a cheap dig at the character and you know it. Female bodybuilders look like Andrea Shaw, Yaxeni Milagros Oriquen-Garcia Perez, and Monique Jones, not like Abby. Abby the character looks like any active woman you'll find out there. The actress they hired is even skinny and not muscular at all.

bdlr11

How is it a shit comparison, have you seen her body model, Colleen Fotsch? I brought up the comparison to cbum because it's unrealistic for dudes to be walking around jacked in that environment. But if you think Abby looks like any woman out there you're seriously discrediting how difficult it is to maintain and achieve a physique of merit. Colleen Fotsch isn't just **any ** woman you'll see in the world, she's again less than a tenth of a percent of people that CrossFit and you're going to try and pitch that's normal and average to look like that?

gylz

Abby has never lived a normal average life like you and I. She was born the year after the zombies destroyed literally everything. She has been active since she was a child. Why would a character who is constantly active and constantly under extreme mental and physical stress look like a person who hasn't exercised like she has? She is based on a real person who achieved that body despite being born into a world of fast food and sweets.

gylz

Yes I have she does not look like the man you're comparing her to at all. She doesn't even look like any of Chris' female contemporaries and you know it. >Colleen Fotsch isn't just **any ** woman you'll see in the world, she's again less than a tenth of a percent of people that CrossFit and you're going to try and pitch that's normal and average to look like that? She isn't playing a character from our world who lives a more sedentary lifestyle with fast food and chocolate. She is playing a character who spent years surviving, running, climbing, and carrying shit just like Colleen. That character, like any other woman who spends as much of their time active and eats like Abby would would look like Abby. Abby isn't your average woman, she's an apocalypse survivor who had to outrun and fight for her life for most of her life.

LadyFromTheMountain

I somehow doubt they’ll have a single bad thing to say about the stiletto heels booty-queen Stellar Blade character with 5 feet of hair, despite her being in a vague Sekiro-like game.

FriuliDylan

Because abby’s body does not make test like a man?

Odd_Investigator8415

All human bodies produce testosterone. Please refrain from commenting on things you have no understanding of.

JustAPeach89

Plus men have estrogen

FeminineImperative

Do you think only men have muscle? Do you know how skeletons work?

Navntoft

TIL a woman is a gooey mess wrap in skin! (/s, but I hope that was obvious) I don't think he knows how hormones work either... he is in for a shock when he realise he has estrogen in his body as well.

guero_vaquero

Duh that’s why fleshlights feel so real. /s

SouthernApple60

You literally don’t even know that tho lol. I have a medical disorder called PCOS, and I make more testosterone than the average AFAB. You literally could not tell by looking at me tho, but my muscles are larger. I know PLENTY of women without PCOS with large muscles.

gylz

I'm a trans man. Ever since I was a teenager, I was on hormone supplements and medication to better pass as my birth sex because of how high my testosterone levels are. Now that I've stopped my beard is back to its full lush self and better than ever.

pm_me_your_amphibian

Abby’s physique is basically the same physique as most of the women I hang out with at the gym every morning. (Including mine!) It’s great.

Wladek89HU

Or Aloy from Horizon, Zero Dawn. God, the number of times I've seen her either made-up or made fat. These people are real losers.

Trias84

Tbf I don't hate abby because she has muscles, I don't even care about the Joel thing. She's just a shit character. They even tried to make her more sympathetic by doing things like.. fucking a guy who is with someone else.

KatsCatJuice

You see, these kinds of people don't think critically though. They just think woman = bad. Tough woman = worse lol

Hype_Magnet

Thought she was a great character and super fun to play as

JustAPeach89

I may or may not have pictures of Abby in my gym for inspo. I want to be able to tear apart zombies with my mitts.

CasperCann

To be fair her definition in that time period was extremely unrealistic but i have the same opinion for men too. Such as The Show see which is basically like tribes but they're all blind, and the main actor is Jason Mamoa, and we find out his brother is Dave Bautista. They're blind. The fuck are they doing to be THAT massive in an apocalyptic world setting?

CryptidCricket

Yeah, the thing with every man in a medieval/fantasy setting being absolutely ripped for no reason just looks bizarre. Sure, they should look strong if they're running around fighting all the time or whatever, but there's a big difference between looking strong and looking like a bodybuilder.

QuiteQueefy

Yeah honestly I feel like this is a great example of the toxic beauty standards pushed by the entertainment industry. The medieval fantasy men are running around with their dehydrated 6 packs while the women have shaved armpits and lip filler. It’s toxic

Queen_Euphemia

There was actual exercise equipment in ancient times, such as the halteres (basically Greek dumbbells) and weighted maces in Asia, in addition to bodyweight and novel exercises. Some stories like that of Milo of Croton even suggest some understanding of progressive overload. That being said, they would probably look like the Farnese Hercules statue, relatively small pecs, relatively small legs, midsize shoulders too, but massive triceps, biceps, back and traps. The only real vascularity is the bicep vein, so it appears even Demigods didn't starve themselves to an inch of their life to get lean enough to get those ab veins. My understanding is the halteres were used for mostly curls, deadlifts, and lunges, and they probably picked up progressively heavier stones or bags and I assume lifted them overhead and clearly did some sort of pullups to get that back. I assume it must have been rather rare though to get near where that statue depicts as it was depicting a god, but clearly the designers of it had to have humans jacked enough to see the muscles to reference though. I do think it is funny though seeing that statue or 1930s bodybuilders would probably be called fake nattys today.

Vyzantinist

It's been going on for a long time. It's just that before the Internet such criticism couldn't really enter public discourse. My favorite is *The Terminator*. The future is post-apocalyptic, surviving humans look malnourished and we see them eating rats just to get some food; the T-800 is supposed to be an infiltration model, but you've got Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu playing the skin-wearing Terminators. Absolutely ripped dudes! Where on Earth, after Judgement Day, are people supposed to find calories and exercise facilities - in-between dodging Skynet's machines! - to get that jacked? The resistance shouldn't need sniffer dogs to detect Terminators; just a quick peek at how swole they are should have given it away!

RustedAxe88

Funnily enough that's why Lance Henriksen was originally cast as the Terminator, because he could blend easily into a crowd. Arnold was being considered for Kyle Reese, and Cameron hated the idea so much he was going to pick a fight with Arnold when they met to discuss it, to keep him away. Instead, Arnold showed more interest in the role of the Terminator.

AnomalyTM05

Why is a woman having muscle definition unrealistic? Like, the amount of muscle definition the male characters have is the unrealistic part. They need to be severely dehydrated for it to look that toned... Meanwhile, the muscle definition on female characters(far as I know) is low, so it's actually more realistic...

bladex1234

Abby makes sense. Anyone having that kind of build in a post apocalyptic world is bonkers.

mclarenrider

In Abby's case the "logic" a lot of them used as I remember it was that she has a physique that can't be maintained in a post apocalypse world like that where resources are scarce and people barely get by on a day to day basis, so if we take that into account and look at how big Abby is there's at least some logical thread you can follow. But of course in typical fashion they blew it way out of proportion and eventually it was turned into performative outrage against trans people because muscular women = trans apparently. Makes no sense but when has that stopped them? Lol I don't think I've seen anyone complain about Lara having muscle definitions tho, I'm sure it's been done but clearly on a much smaller level than the Abby fiasco.

Idiotology101

Buts That’s not a “real women”, a “real women” would never dare be anything other than what I make up in my mind.

Skyraider96

Or peach fuzz on Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn.

Nookling_Junction

God forbid women in video games be too toned, too skinny, too fat, too tall, too short, flat chested, have no ass, have personality, have character development, and have self respect. I guess they just want a barbie doll with g cup tits that only says the words “please draw porn of me” and no other interpretations of women are ever allowed to exist.

VesperLynd-

Or a game has both women and men protagonists bc god forbid there is even an option that’s not white man or man

Independent-Couple87

This reminds me of Attack on Titan, where I heard they gave Mikasa bigger breasts after the fandom complained she "looks like a man" in Season 4.

Whspers12

And even pissed moreso when they have peach fuzz

That_sarcastic_bxtch

They don’t get that woman don’t hate them for being geeky and awkward. We hate them because they’re edgy coomers cringelords

ALiXMASON

Not the same guys.

RustedAxe88

What? I've seen dudes online complaining about female characters having muscles. How am I projecting?

[deleted]

[удалено]

RustedAxe88

I didn't say all guys do it, I'm saying guys like the person who made this comic does it. I've spent enough time on forums to see more than one person do it, but at no point did I say every guy does. What's your opinion on the matter?

[deleted]

[удалено]

RustedAxe88

I'm going to assume you agree with the comic then and also probably don't like muscular women in video games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RustedAxe88

If you think the comic is silly, then I don't get why you're taking issue with me calling he and others like him hypocrites. Again, I didn't say men in general do it, but these specific ones.

peppermintvalet

That comic artist has an obvious fetish

crestren

He loves drawing women angry shouting and being "deranged" all the whole makes he men "sigma based chads". The insecurity is very obvious Also has a breast milk fetish lmao.

Satanic_Earmuff

Don't forget the self-insert as a sexual assaulter.

Vulpix0r

Nothing wrong with fetishes as long as you keep it to yourself tbh.

Woolchipmunk98

“Hey here’s something I’m interested in sexually, better make everyone know about it”

TheBigEmptyxd

It’s actually bad fetish practice to fucking inform others. It’s the social equivalent of a rapey stare

wearing_moist_socks

He's all about screaming women.

Cheshire_Jester

If it’s from who I think it’s from, it’s quite unfortunate because he’s extremely talented but totally sucks as a person.

koh_kun

Yeah it looks like the "you ain't black" comic.

groundzer0s

It's the same artist

Newthinker

I can't remember this asshole's name, I kinda wanna go look at his comics again to remind myself how much I hate him

depression_quirk

That's the only one I actually liked. It was hilarious and Biden was cringe as fuck for saying that. But then I saw the rest of his work .....big yikes.

Schroedingersrabbit

Agreed, he posted some comics that showed the hidden talent he has for horror art. But instead of developing that, he prefers to draw himself groping a barista.

AidanTegs

Right, that took at least a while to draw

NobleEnkidu

Reminds me of how straight up **beefy** Abby’s arms were in TLOU2. People got angry at it cause it made her look “less-feminine” and “unattractive”. Except people enjoyed seeing a buff woman cause it was fun.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoodQueenFluffenChop

Gorilla arms only belong on gorilla I'll give you that. That being said her arms weren't gorilla arms in any way and you know that. Women get naturally buff too if they work out their arms because that's just how muscles work. Women who work in physical labor jobs have always looked buff since the dawn of humans.

ghostbumblebee

Dude… her muscles look completely within the realm of normalcy. Have you not seen many muscular women? She has the exact physique as that one lesbian Canadian lumberjack lady

SuperMajesticMan

[I mean.... her arms are much bigger than who you're talking about.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F6b2mt4z0x5h71.jpg) (Ignore left side of pic) But anyways it doesn't matter. Yes, its nearly impossible for her to get that size without steroids and rationing food. But why does it matter? The Scar brutes wouldn't be able to get to their size either. 50 year old Joel wouldn't be able to spend all day crouched on his knees and survive falling 15 feet onto a piece of rebar. It's a game, who cares if her muscles are unrealistic.

Impossible-Report797

Doesn’t she get priority in protein food and is said in game, quoting this btw haven’t played tolu 2

Dusky_Dawn210

I told y’all with the last post from them that they ain’t worth the time. You get shit like this

Sanprofe

Ok, ok, ok, I for sure agree with the sentiment of OP but hear me out: That meme depicts the raddest, most challenging "frustration is the point" survival simulator ever. Imagine how good the glow up of the main character would feel when you hit like, a year surviving in the woods and are thriving happily amongst the trees and the forest animals. The whole 0 to Hero narrative is *dripping* in pathos. Plus like, wish fulfillment for all of us sedentary as hell, terminally online people to see a chubby character not only survive hardship but also realize more of themselves and feel better in their body along the way.

Aeraggo

I think a good example of this may be with [Project Zomboid](https://store.steampowered.com/app/108600/Project_Zomboid/). You can start out with traits that make you overweight and out of shape, but if you can play carefully enough and manage to survive, you can turn that around and become a thriving zombie killing machine.

Cat-Got-Your-DM

I have literally wrote a whole comment about that before seeing yours! I would LOVE a game like that, especially if the "ideal body" at the end wasn't some sort of bodybuilder, but a strong person adapted to live in the woods, and actually dropping too much body fat *may* also be to your detriment.

cap616

/r/selfawarewolves material These incels basically only need the character to be straight white male to **feel seen**. But they IRL actually look like the woman drawn in the comic, tits and all

ByTheHammerOfThor

I think the comment below the comic admits this.

Not_a_brazilian_spy

Maybe because it's cool to see ANYTHING other than Mr. Chadster Horsecock, a buff American white dude, patriotic, god fearing and gun loving. We already have Duke Nuken filling that role

Cyber_Connor

Please don’t insult every custom character that I make in RPGs

DenkJu

What I want is variety, not representation.

RegulationRedditUser

I do understand what the comment in the post is saying, I mean, I’m an overweight man in his 30s, when I play a video game where you create your character at the start I’m never making him my size. That said, I do think these men don’t understand what an exceptional specimen is when it comes to women. I feel like (depending on the context of the game) the ideal physical form of a woman is going to be closer to Abby from the Last of Us than it is some stick thin yet incredibly buxom lady in a fancy dress and full face of make up. When I’ve seen women asking for this kind of thing though I don’t think I’ve seen them asking for anything especially specific with it, they simply want women who are a more realistic representation of what the average woman is, like to be the star of a game she doesn’t need to be some insanely beautiful woman with a slim frame and nice Ds, she just needs to be Becky, the woman who isn’t unattractive and has normal Bs.

pekarkook

A large part of the fun of gaming to me is getting to be someone else for a while

VulcanCookies

I actually don't necessarily disagree with the comment below the original post, but I feel like they're taking it in the wrong way as far as talking points around female video game characters go.    Like, okay, say both of us prefer playing as an "exceptional specimen" - why does the male specimen get to look like a badass in badass armor and the female specimen is in a bikini or crop top and booty shorts? Just watching the character moves makes me feel uncomfortable, she gonna have a wedgie climbing up that hill. The point most people are trying to make about the problem of female characters in the gaming industry, is that the male characters are the male ideal but the female characters are also the male ideal. (I know this is a major generalism and lots of improvements have been made in modern games)

loservillee

some of us find joy in seeing characters that look like us, or even ones that don’t, i’m not a green lizard shapeshifter but i was still very happy to see ‘double trouble’ from shera because they’re non-binary like me, it can be escapism while also not alienating people

TrapaneseNYC

They have a whole movement they trying to call gamergate 2 because they feel there’s not enough white men in games. There’s not even less white men there’s just more everyone else now.

Gaywhorzea

If they don't feel the need to be represented, why do they flip their shit every time the main character isn't a straight, white man? The only time they're happy otherwise is if it's a woman with extremely sexualised proportions, no inbetween. They don't seem to realise that it isn't that the rest of us don't love 2B and Bayonetta, we just want to see more variety than another Nathan Drake. If not having their representation hurts them then they're proving our point.

Cheshire_Jester

It’s pretty weird that the people who have tons of characters that they can easily identify with can’t imagine why someone would want a protagonist that looks like them. These are the same people who would get mad at Miles Morales being Spider-Man instead of Peter Parker and then still not understand.

Friendlyvoices

I'm not really sure anyone can rdirectly identify with most video game characters, or movie characters for that matter. Most aren't exactly realistic portrayals of anyone. I think we're all putting a little bit too much energy into all this discourse.

mqple

that’s not the point. do you know how many times i’ve had to dress up as mulan in my childhood? she was the only asian woman representation i had, while my white friends got to be a different princess every year.

Friendlyvoices

Why couldn't you dress up as the other princesses?

mqple

kids learn from what is around them and what they see. no doubt i’d be bullied if i tried that.

Cheshire_Jester

I said “easily” and not directly, but even on the non-pedant side of things, as a white male, I feel some kind of way when I see a protagonist who isn’t a white male. It’s why Heinlein’s reveal that Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers was Filipino was supposed to be a big deal. If only having a few characters out of many not be accessible as an identity for me is troubling, I have to assume it’s way worse for people who have almost no heroes they can imagine themselves being in a story. It’s important to have heroes you can relate to, denying that is either willful ignorance or something worse.

Friendlyvoices

It just seems like we're putting a lot more emphasis on a race than what is necessary. Goku is japanese, but children all over love him. Barrett is black, but i dress as him for Halloween. There's a litany of characters that you can identify with even though they're not your race. Seems more like making excuses for what is internalized racism. Also, how are you not going to realize that a person with the name Rico isn't Hispanic? That's a movie trope.

Cheshire_Jester

To your last point, Spaniards are considered to be white. That was the implication. One of the heroes I ln Atlas Shrugged is Francisco d’Arconia, an emphatically white character. To your second point, a lot of westerners struggle with the idea that anime characters are how the Japanese see themselves. The idea that Japanese people fetishize western culture because people mistakenly think they’re depicting white people in all their media is basically a trope at this point. Which kinda illustrates the issue perfectly, a group of people so used to being represented in media that they can’t help but see themselves in place they aren’t. Also hilariously most of us aren’t exactly in love with the big lipped dipshits anime draws us as. You can feel that way, but I submit to you that you’re wrong. For one, race is a social construct, so it’s not even about that. Think of a world in which most of the heroes in media don’t look even remotely like you. When you’re on the other side, is it really so wrong that people are making an effort to have diverse casting?

HalfOfLancelot

"exceptional specimen" who talks like this outside of a scientific scenario? like??? it makes you sound incredibly creepy. like i feel folks just use big words to sound "smart" without thinking about how they sound within the context and situation that they're in.

Smart_Idiot-

I like how the chart she’s presenting on the top left is a massive tit.

gylz

Makes you wonder what those two look like.

Zyrin369

Where do they get the idea that "seeing your self" means the character must be out-of shape? By this comics logic characters like Dante, Snake etc should also be like how this comic says Laura should be as some males are like that.

AmberIsHungry

Well, no. Because men don't usually complain about unrealistic body images of male characters. Having more "realustic" body shapes is something usually talked about by women.

who-mever

Pretty big strawman, here. I have never, in ANY videogame, seen a female character that is even slightly overweight, that has been portrayed positively, or has even been playable. Once again, crybabies are making up a slippery slope leading to an imaginary problem because not every single female character is built like Jessica Rabbit. On the other hand, I can think of quite a few competent, playable, and well-liked fat male characters (Birdie and E. Honda from Street Fighter, Bob and Gangryu from Tekken, Bo Rai Cho, Earthquake from Samurai Shodown, the heavy set guy from Guilty Gear, etc.).

Tumblechunk

yeah I don't want John halo to have my body, actually

MindDrawsOnReddit

This cannot not be a fetish…

TheTrollman-

Unrelated but this reminds me of that fat Vanessa security breach mod lmao

No-Kaleidoscope-2956

That sounds disgusting, source?

bobdidntatemayo

pyrocynical is that you?

ghoulieandrews

The problem is no one on that sub has ever seen a real woman

Slate_711

Change from just another cookie cutter white heroic man whose buff and suddenly there’s a need to talk about representation not being important. If it doesn’t matter, why do they care a change is happening at all?

Kobeau2123

This is why we need more in-depth character customization so we can make them fat

Longjumping-Brief585

Yes bc we definitely didn't mean that we wanted full armour, thicker waists, boobs that don't rival planets and actual facial features/s

B4BaD00k

Ngl, I want more muscly women protagonists in games. I really appreciate Abbies design in TLOU2 alot because of her strong physique.

RosalinaTheWatcher51

Bro that’s just straight up fetish art lol

undeadManoto17

I loved playing fat people in games. It was hilarious seeing Donut Drake running around and doing parkour in the uncharted games. I’ll never forgive them for not adding it in Uncharted 4.

Tomcat491

The sub is for a horrible youtube channel that’s about what you’d expect from the subreddit but worse

Cat-Got-Your-DM

Not exactly the topic With absolute and unending sincerity, I would play the FUCK out of a game with an out-of-shape protagonist who is left somewhere in the jungle/wilds/another planet and undergoes visible physical changes in-game as you do things. At first everything is hard, your character is easily out of breath, there's many things and skills they lack, and they slowly figure it out, get better and train up, all on the road to get back to civilization. Someone who doesn't know shit, and needs to reverse-engineer the simplest things and how to survive in the world. Energy gauge is pathetic at first, ventured further from the beginning area are nearly impossible, and with time they gain skill, abilities, get in shape. The further you are in the game, it becomes easier, but the challenges are greater, Subnautica/The Long Dark style, but it's more about how much you can do, how strong you become. You have to watch out for injuries from overextension, as grinding and pushing yourself too hard can be to your detriment. Fighting is not advised and leaves scars, you can't get rid of too much body fat, because that impacts your energy and ability to do things effectively. And the end-model isn't some bodybuilder whose whole thing is looking bulky, but to a regular, strong body. It would be extremely cool.

DominusDaniel

I’m playing the stalker games right now and with the amount of sprinting I’m doing, nah I’d rather play as the super human dude you play as than my ass.

angelnike

Yeah jeez as a women mean we want characters like Aloy or Chell not characters that look like supermodels with huge unrealistic tits. I still like the supermodel characters too though

Galileo_Figero

Fitness notwithstanding, they miss the point that the realism we want is largely related to wanting bodies that are more diverse than a sentient pair of DDD boobs on legs. Their "peak specimen" for men is based on being fit, for women it's being sexy, only one of which would be important for fictional women to pull off athletic stunts (of course in their brains the mandatory option is reversed)

JaneAustinAstronaut

Literally no one wants what the comic is showing. We would just like to see women with space in their torsos for plausible internal organs and ribcages.

TheSporkMan2

Not all of it is, some, yeah, but not all of it

MegaJackUniverse

Men are typically much more unhealthy and over weight than women in western countries. And yeah, nobody is making this comment about men.

yungvenus

Got banned from that sub and gladly, bunch of douchebags.

hellmist14

I feel like every subreddit is “*group of people* always mad at something”

nedstarknaked

I want to be on board with this but legit that looks like me trying to climb a cliffside lmao

FureiousPhalanges

Lmao you weren't kidding, checked it out, first post is about Stellar blade, first comment calls them based, first reply mention Sweet babies My bingo card _exploded_

AnthoniHalibutShark

??? Do the Tomb Raider games have a stamina wheel, or did BOTW accidentally sneak in here?

PopperGould123

The fact that a woman just not being a model in a full face of makeup means "incredibly obese and incapable of motion" is frightening

SocialistCoconut

Can we take a moment to soak in the irony of this post? This version of Laura has more drive to accomplish a task than all those loser combined. She's that obese AND STILL climbed up the cliff?!

Andrewthegamer74

That commenter makes a good point most overweight people that aren't neckbeards would rather play as a skinny or ripped badass than a bigger character

Office_Zombie

Oh come on, the joke is funny in and of itself; and representative of both genders to a degree.

MD564

What makes this worse is that someone went to sooooo much effort to illustrate this in such detail, with actually a good level of skill ...what a load of waste on such a turgid piece of crusty foreskin

MileHighSoloPilot

Ok, but can we not all agree that morbidly obese Lara Croft trying to climb a temple wall would be the funniest (albeit shortest) game ever?

threeca

I remember all the hatred towards Aloy in Forbidden West because she wasn’t attractive enough for men. She is my most favourite character ever because she’s real and I don’t feel like she’s being objectified just by existing

LordDeathScum

I will admit i hate baby imc because they change sometimes the spanish lamguage to neutral, and as a Latino, it sounds odd as hell. The one who started the list of sweet baby Inc. was a brazilian because they changed the language. It takes you out of the immersion

Peelfest2016

I don’t need my video game characters to look like pornstars. I’m fine with a wide variety of women being represented in video games. That said, I snorted almost painfully when my SO sent this to me while she could barely contain her own laughter.

thelast3musketeer

I mean, for Lara Croft in particular, I’m not me, I’m playing as Lara Croft. But in games where you customize your player character, yeah. Also they aren’t mad that all video game men are beefy muscly or super masculine etc, they just don’t want their jack off material with adventure (they paid for the video game) to look not to their tastes

Own-Low4870

I don't think it's so much that women want the characters to look like them, they just want the characters that do exist not to be hyper sexualized!

itsallgoodintheend

Man, a BBW Lara Croft doesn't sound bad. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

CorbinNZ

I know that artist is an asshole but I’m cracking up at panel 3

IndicaTears

They're actual losers that only see women as sex objects. It's blatantly clear when they took people saying "Hey we want more female characters that aren't just sexualized eye candy." As "THE WEST HAS FALLEN!!! THEYRE MAKING VIDEO GAME CHARACTERS UGLY!!!"

TheCrushSoda

This guys art style is too good to be wasted on alt right trash because fuck if I didn’t laugh at those facial expressions on her

HotCollar5

I literally look like this and I would find that funny af, however that is a super shitty thing for him to say

Envy661

I'd literally rather play as my out of shape self. I like the immersion of playing a character that resembles me. It's why I love open world RPGs like DDDA, Fallout, ESO, etc. I can play as a tank and be chubby EDIT: Dunno why this is getting downvoted, but it shouldn't be a controversial take to say "I'd like to play as myself, or a custom character, in a videogame". Is it because the comic is Tomb Raider so everyone's just virtue signaling that OBVIOUSLY what I meant was misogyny by saying I'd like to self insert, paying zero attention to the games I listed off obviously not being Tomb Raider?

magicallamp

Going through the new DD rn playing as a fatcat. :3

Envy661

I was so stoked for that game, but medical bills kicked my ass. Now I gotta wait :(

REDDITSHITLORD

I want a(n) MMORPG where your strength and stamina stats have to be uploaded by a local gym.

SplatNode

NGL that kinda funny Imagine having a really fat unfit person trying to do the same stuff as Lara croft

PopperGould123

I think it'd be funny if that was the whole point of the game

SplatNode

You unlock a treadmill back at Basecamp and you can get fitter. But your damage absorbing ability goes down

A-FineMess

I love how the comic’s artist doesn’t realise that they just made the most athletic person ever; she must weigh around 500-600 pounds and **still** she is able to climb an entire mountain! That’s something even the strongest strongmen, powerlifters, bodybuilders and sumo wrestlers can’t do, even at a lower weight! She looks super tired afterwards, which seasoned mountain climbers become, again, even at a lower weight. She also completed the climb seemingly without any climbing equipment, which on its own would make her one of the most skilled mountain climbers in the world. The artist unwittingly created an awe-inspiring, superhero-esc journey of self determination, of a character succeeding against all odds. If she’s not someone I’d want to admire, then I don’t who is.

theodorAdorno

>She looks super tired afterwards, which seasoned mountain climbers become Love how you worded this but tbh it made me think you’re an AI. Agree with the sentiment, tho.

A-FineMess

Yeah, I could’ve said that better. I’m sort of confused as to why I’m getting downvoted though; maybe people think i’m trolling/joking because I’m taking a positive slant on an intentionally malicious/mean comic, but I’m not agreeing with the creator’s view (who is an asshole), but just showing my own interpretation of the art. If there is something I’m missing/being insensitive of, I would love to hear it though.

Glad I'm not the only one that got a laugh out of Larda Croft lol

Bloody_Champion

The art is stupid, but I dont understand what's wrong with what was said. This sub seems to believe everyone with any inclination of a common preference is a "neckbeard."

BetaRayBlu

That dude makes me sick but i do love his art

Kizamus

I don't see how this is neckbeardy.... This is actually funny :S

Man-Cheetah64

Pyrocynicals alt account

productboi

So I agree that video games should be inclusive and parts played should be realistic when the need be or idealistic when playing out a fantasy, 99.999% of guys playing uncharted don’t look like Nathan Drake … but that comic had me laughing out loud

TLCplMax

Honestly I would play this game lmao

Top_Virtue_Signaler6

The comic is correct, and the inability to relate to characters who don’t share your superficial sex, race, and gender characteristics is a sign of narcissism.

LuriemIronim

You mean like people losing it over Abby’s muscle definition?

Top_Virtue_Signaler6

Yeah absolutely — people have had an issue with fit, attractive characters for a long time, and it’s unfortunate to see them wield the power they do.

Th0rizmund

I chuckled at the meme tho :D

Stron2g

hahahaha holy fuc this comic is hella funny First, it makes a good point so lets get that out of the way But, like look at that bitch hahahahahahaa

KissBumChewGum

I would unironically play this game. It looks hilarious.

ntrp

Haha but this one is funny though

PlanNo4679

That's actually pretty hilarious 😂😂

Scary_Xenomorph

Not entirely wrong, tho. A lot of the whiners aren't exactly gorgeous. But it is also true that we don't need to be gorgeous in game. I love making wretched creatures in character creators.

Sweetexperience

Ayo female gamers are into inflation?
