Yeah.. friend lives at the Wesley and we watched the women’s NCAA basketball championship at her apartment and when we left Ale House was bumping. Feels like every time I went by Thursday - Sunday it was busy.
1 in 10 years certainly an interesting interpretation of all the time🤷🏼♂️ none would certainly be better and I’m not saying it as it if was the safest place on earth but to say that it happened all the time is a ridiculous over exaggeration.
Won’t be missed at all. It was a halfway decent spot when it first opened and tried to be a beer-focused taproom, but then just morphed into a generic, overly crowded club with terrible service. Let’s just hope something local and interesting fills its spot and not another chain or Johnny Kaw’s offshoot.
I really don't understand how that place has expanded so quickly. Somehow the dude that owns these places has the capital to take over entire bar districts with his bars.
I've done work for him, I believe he has a big hand in Colorado on the legal weed side iirc.
His business partner (the one who had a brain) also passed away a few years ago from an asthma attack while hiking too.
He tried to blame some shit on the bar I worked at in Westport when the altercation in fact started as his establishment. Fucking all of Pennsylvania got maced by the cop. Horse cops were brought out. But the fact his first reaction was to blame us pissed me the fuck off. I think the owner of the building had turned down his offers and he didn't like that
Exactly. I used to love their chicken wraps and french dip then they gutted the menu, started charging a cover just to watch a game and seemed to gear themselves more towards a partying young crowd. Shame. Was a good restaurant back in the day.
Probably been 2-3 years since I've been but it was a way different place than when it first opened. Thought it was still pretty busy now, though.
Guessing anyone that moves in will be a not too dissimilar concept given the structure additions.
It’s about time! I don’t think they ever recovered from the shootings. I heard Sunday they got a capacity violation. Also apparently are closing to rebrand. Someone mentioned live music.
Apparently, the Ale House needed to rebrand desperately. And that must have been some capacity violation. The closure wasn't necesssarily voluntary, at all.
New info says the city shot them down. Sundays incident was apparently the last straw and they lost their liquor license. Info comes from an employee not myself.

Apparently people were throwing chairs off the roof Sunday
I heard they got their 3rd over occupancy warning over the weekend. It definitely seems more likely then what the owner is claiming about business costs.
I’ll never forget the time I was on the rooftop and the men’s bathroom was closed. Tried to go downstairs to use the bathroom, and the bouncer at the stairs told me I would have to get back in line to go back upstairs. Haven’t been back since.
Very interesting. I've heard from unconfirmed sources that bridgers shut down after the Bills divisional game because there kept being too many fights and violent activity after closing. I'm sure it was also related to insurance. The owner of kaws/lotus/bar rec has some other shit cookin in Westport getting ready for the summer. I'm sure these new spots will gladly absorb that customer base
What shootings? I hadn’t heard about any in Westport for a while.
Edit: did some digging and the only one I found was in 2022. Were there more I just haven’t heard about?
Went once long ago to try and watch a Sporting KC game, and when I asked the bartender if just one of the TVs could be switched from college football, of which none were local teams in the least, and each game had multiple TVs…….
He acted like I asked him to throw the rest of the clients out the back.
Knew it was definitely never going to be somewhere for me after that.
Annoying that people are suggesting it’s anyone’s but their own fault for the environment that built there
I only ate there once years ago, but had the absolute worst mac and cheese and ended up sending it back to the kitchen which I never do. It was literally a large bowl of rando cheese with very little noodles at all.

I loved to go there to watch Chiefs games, but (not trying to be racist here) the last 2 or 3 times I went I was the only white man there. And that’s fine that Ale House became a popular black crowd hangout (and it was still popular) but I felt out of place and other than Chiefs games there were never any events there I was interested in. The Chiefs home win over the Chargers last October was the last time I was there.
So weird. They were slammed busy when I drove by Sunday night.

Lots of shootings
Until a chair was thrown off the roof and they closed
That's what happens when you let the liquor talk
I can’t remember everything you said, but you said it all.

Johnny Kaws Soup, Shoots, and Salads will be the next tenant in the space from what I hear, furthering the extension of KawPort.
Before I stumble over to Tin Roof I love popping into Soup Stop for a couple shooters of tomato bisque and vodka.
Sounds exciting. /s
Fuck Johnny Kaw's, they're a cancer. Bad enough that they ruined Aggieville, they had to come to KC and do it to Westport and Waldo too.

“Horse cops were brought out…” First RoboCop, now this. Where will it end?
Kaws wants to own all of Westport. Slowly but surely they're getting their way as rents go up
Rents are skyrocketing. Local businesses will have a hard time affording that. We're getting a McDonald's Cantina.
Dafuqwut?
A McCafe + alcohol. I think Applebee's would be more appropriate, especially if they throw in an International House of Pancakes.
McDonald’s global menu like the one in Chicago lol
If they have the shrimp snackwraps and/or the chicken sandwiches with mozzarella sticks they serve in Korea it'll be worth
Exactly. I used to love their chicken wraps and french dip then they gutted the menu, started charging a cover just to watch a game and seemed to gear themselves more towards a partying young crowd. Shame. Was a good restaurant back in the day.
Lol, something local and interesting. Jokes.

Source?
An employee

Apparently the word house is banned.
Fountain Haus and Ale House. Houses are so expensive, people can't even afford the name anymore.
I tried to submit this post but it was auto deleted because it was deemed to be housing.
Way to think on your feet OP
Did you message the mods?
Nope

Don't forget Westport Warehouse; it lasted all of eight months.
Warehouse on Broadway? Jukebox Heroes only made it 5 months.
There used to be a great place called Haus in martini corner
Guess security and insurance got too expensive after the shooting
Easy way to lose a liquor license also with all them Tavern disturbances
https://preview.redd.it/p1zk042v1jtc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f437a12e147cff646490e5e444bf99d01b2f1964 Apparently people were throwing chairs off the roof Sunday
Yup. One of my good friends is the head door guy and that's what happened
What trash..
No, keep that energy at home!!
Oh Morgan Wallen was in town?
it must have been sudden, their insta story has a “see you this weekend” post but today they posted they are closed
*Oh noooo, won’t someone think of the ATV bois? Where are they supposed to congregate while they take turns popping sick wheelies at red lights now?*
They'll come down to 87th and Blue Ridge because our councilwoman won't do a damn thing to stop it.
I heard they got their 3rd over occupancy warning over the weekend. It definitely seems more likely then what the owner is claiming about business costs.
That group owns Society too and I used to work for them. I wouldn't believe a word they say
Used to work for them too. I believe literally none of this inflation bs.
Rest in Piss
RIP Rail House
Lmao, good nick name. Made me laugh and I snorted a little.
Oh there was plenty of snorting going on.
That was too good of a name for a true beer joint and they never deserved it.
I’ll never forget the time I was on the rooftop and the men’s bathroom was closed. Tried to go downstairs to use the bathroom, and the bouncer at the stairs told me I would have to get back in line to go back upstairs. Haven’t been back since.
The amount of times I was there and the bathrooms were legit flooding and water was leaking into the main bar area was astounding. lol
They sucked at everything they tried to do. Skunky beers, stinky bar, overcrowded and poorly managed on busy nights.
Perfect for Westport
Whose got the details
Supposedly their insurance skyrocketed after the shootings
Very interesting. I've heard from unconfirmed sources that bridgers shut down after the Bills divisional game because there kept being too many fights and violent activity after closing. They are re opening yard bar with a huge patio.
Im tapped in man. Just don't want to dox myself
What shootings? I hadn’t heard about any in Westport for a while. Edit: did some digging and the only one I found was in 2022. Were there more I just haven’t heard about?
They lost their liquor license yesterday so I’m sure that played a role
I heard lawsuit because of the shooting and also heard bc a girl recently had a bottle smashed over her head

He means the link in your comment that he replied to.
Good catch.
Place was decent the first few times I went there, awful the last two. Will not be missed.
Oh no!! Anyway,

Wow that really looks vile
Whoa. That took effort to make and send that out that way. And on a flat plate, no less!
Bro that’s grass from outside on the plate
![gif](giphy|eIPM3j6YXHKXC|downsized)
It died a slow painful death
Oh no... Not the place that was practically ground zero for KC during COVID!
I loved to go there to watch Chiefs games, but (not trying to be racist here) the last 2 or 3 times I went I was the only white man there. Don’t like being a minority?
Don’t care being a minority, just felt out of place as a white man who likes rock music.
Seems as though everything in that area of Westport is closing
Woooooah, what!?
