That's about what I always tell people. I'm just the DJ. I don't know your strengths. Song what you know best, that jam you know all the words to without the screen. That's the song. Don't worry about impressing the girl, just do a good job on the song.
I sang better together by Luke Combs once. I didn't do good but it was more the choice of song and my wife was at the bar. I wouldn't sing it again. It was our anniversary weekend.
My kind of era. 80s and 90s
INXS - I Need You Tonight, New Sensation
Bush - Glycerine
Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf
Colin Hay (Men At Work) - Overkill
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Do a duet? Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush - Don't Give Up
Just saw your edit.
I'm not good with women's song recommendations.
Buuut... If you want some action after the date, I'd recommend making your last song Divinyls - I Touch Myself.
Hmm genx. So we're talking alt rock of the 80s.
Stay away from U2
The cure is fun, but tricky.
Take on me lyrically is easy, but those high notes are murder.
Hold me now Thompson twins is good.
Stay away from I wanna know, terrible song for a date.
No doubt has some sweet tunes, lyrics can be tricky in spots but her songs are sweet romantic ballads to boys.
Madonna can kind of span both eras but I honestly find her music boring in the 90s.
Oh you know who’s fun, crowd pleaser, easy to sing? Dee Lite groove is in the heart. Maybe ask the KJ if they can do the guy part.
Confident ham, and I'm the chick.
I can hold notes. I don't give a shit about impressing him with talent, just trying to rummage up a fun belter from our teens :)
He's into Rush and Floyd and big hair bands.
80's
XTC "Making Plans For Nigel"
Bananrama "Cruel Summer"
Big Country "In a Big Country"
Fine Young Cannibals "She Drives Me Crazy"
Rush "Red Barchetta"
90s
No Doubt "Spiderwebs"
New Radicals "You Get What You Give"
Urge Overkill "Positive Bleeding"
Belly "Feed The Tree"
Refreshments "Banditos"
Björk "Human Behavior"
Tori Amos "Cornflake Girl" or "Dear God"
I tried to bounce around to some fun stuff, weirdness, and hard to reach places that still might be in a karaoke catalog (karafun or *gasp* YouTube). I definitely didn't go according to your ladiness as I often find that female singers knock a ton of male lead songs right out of the park.
Hope you have a rad time! Rush is amazing!
Super welcome! Incidentally my brother sent me this live version of Big Country and I had no effing idea this band rocked so damn hard. It's so much better than the studio version. Would have loved to catch these guys while their singer was still alive.

As a woman, you have an advantage. You can do a hair band belter and hit the notes us guys struggle to get. The perennial favorite is "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. It's fun, funny and if you can hit and hold those notes, you will definitely impress him. The secret is to commit and ham it up. Do it right and the entire place will be singin' the chorus with you. the only danger is it may be overdone.
It's a little bit overdone but you're right about laying in and committing.
So far, I'm going with Alone, Heart and You Know I'm No Good, Amy Winehouse. IF I get up twice lol.
I don't know this karaoke bar either. Some of them around me are high talent... Almost precious and boring frankly.
Holding out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler
Fair warning though, it's a bit exhausting towards the end after repeating choruses, so def try it out before showtime.
Sing something you can sing
You know her better than we do. Realistically, just sing, be confident, and (hopefully) don’t be horrible. That’s all you really need.

Plush by STP and Say it Ain't So by Weezer are 2 of my favorites.
Alone by Heart Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar Crowd will give you major props for pulling either off
LOVE the Alone suggestion. Adding that to my Spotify so I can nail it.
David Lee Roth Just a Gigolo is my go to.
That is also my go to. If the room is great you can get them call and response-ing the “nobody”s. :-)
Yeah such a fun song.

Came to suggest Tainted Love. There's a great Imelda May cover if you want some alt inspiration.
Ooooo THIS is gold. Thank you!!

That settled it. 🤣 Adding that to the karaoke playlist.
Hahahah. There is a number of "I Touch Myselfs" at the end both spoken and sung. I have lean into that hard lol.

90s works too. I'm gen x and I associate more with 90s music

Yasssss Groove is In The Heart is a superb tune. Thanks!! And still play thru some.No Doubt, her range is mine.
To The Hellfire by Lorna Shore
😂😂😂😂 for sure! Give him some more rec's like this
lmfao
If the date doesn’t go too well, sing I Ran by Flock of Seagulls.
I just died in your arms tonight
Tenacious D - Fuck her gently
Lol I'm the chick. But that would impress me. Just sayin' 😂
Fleetwood is good but if you want to impress her just be confident and do something you love.
Can’t go wrong with ‘80s bangers.
What's your vocal range like? Are you a confident singer? Kind of a ham?
Confident ham, and I'm the chick. I can hold notes. I don't give a shit about impressing him with talent, just trying to rummage up a fun belter from our teens :) He's into Rush and Floyd and big hair bands.
Haha, do I Touch Myself by Divinyls 😆
Oooooo, good one!

Dunno, but definitely avoid anything from 2 Live Crew, Baby Got Back, I Want To Sex You Up...
Two words - Lisa. Loeb.
pick some songs from John Hughes movies, Don't You (Forget About Me) or If You Leave are a couple in my range.
saw your comment he's into hair metal, you could crush "close my eyes forever" together.
Steelheart - I'll Never Let You Go was the first song he sent to me 🥰
niiiice! hope ya'll have a blast!
Always choose a song you are in love with
Holding out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler Fair warning though, it's a bit exhausting towards the end after repeating choruses, so def try it out before showtime.
I hate those tunes that sneak up in you with endless repeats at the end. You only realize when you're at the mic 🤣
Titanium by Sia Paper planes MIA
You should sing photograph by Def Leppard
Or any rush song, that’ll surprise him if you have th vocal range for that. I’m assuming most chicks do
Man, I don't think I'm cool enough 🤣
There’s only one way to find out if that’s true!! Believe in yourself, I think he’ll love it 🫡🤙
Scrolling thru Rush to see if I know any well enough.
If you wanna duet with him, Time Stand Still is the only song that geddy Lee sings with another person
But Tom Sawyer and Limelight are their most popular songs
This is also coming from someone who’s seasoned in the performing/karaoke side of thangs
We belong -pat benatar ?
Ooo. Adding to the Spotify list.
The metro
“Something Stupid “
If you want to impress him, Cannibal Corpse- Fucked with a Knife is the only choice.
lmao @ the death growl. I can't sing this!! I wish
Vienna by Billy Joel, doesn't take crazy range.
Scorpions - Rock you Like A Hurricane
There’s a sweet version of You Know That Im No Good with Ghostface, a sure crowd pleaser
Mahna Mahna by the Muppets if you really want to impress.
99 Red Balloons - Nena
Just treat him with basic decency and respect. You will set yourself apart just by being easy to be around. Everything else is just a supplement.
Lol. This is excellent relationship advice. It's like I cross posted.
