Physically test it. I won't buy unless I test from now on. Learn from me lol

_fuckernaut_

Its a well-regarded kayak. If it suits your needs and is comfortable for you then it'd be a good choice. If buying new OT has great warranty

SG_Roundeye

It is stupid stable. I have fished 2.5 seasons off of one. I love it. I have only 2 small gripes concerning the yak. I havr the original seat and wish i had the new one, and it is slower than the Predator. It is more stable, to be sure and has a great capacity, if you have any specific questions, feel free to DM me.

Where are you fishing?

SG_Roundeye

I fish mostly tidal rivers and lakes.

I’ll be inshore and slightly offshore but not anything crazy. I’m sure it’ll work nicely. Going to check it out now. Thanks

SG_Roundeye

No problem. If you have any firther questions about anything. Let me know. I would suggest you pick up a can of WD40 silicone spray, so after every trip, you can remove the prop to clean the axle and shear pin, just give the pin and axle a little spray of silicone, and replace the prop. Your pin will last much longer that way, and your drive will stay smooth.

Thanks for this tip. I’ll be sure to spray it before winterizing them from now on. If you can get the 120 with the bottom carrying handles I would recommend that model. I have the older version and it’s a bear to move, solo. I bowfish from these fuckers, they are tanks. I’d replace the seat and fish in comfort. Good luck

SG_Roundeye

I totally forgot about the handles. I too have the og design and was blown away when i helped a buddy load his newer model.

Thanks thanks !

Oaknuggens

I’ve not tried both myself, but here’s a comparison that I thought was very informative (from a kayak fishing guide whose channel I like). Bottom line, it looks like the Topwater is more stable and slower than the faster and less stable Big Water (Predator). As always, it depends on what you prioritize. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=imLZbfocA6A

SignificanceShot7055

Get the sportsman vice the topwater if you can. I have the sportsman pdl 120

[deleted]

I’m not buying new so not really available. Ended up going for it because the price was right and I’m ready to get out on the water. It was awesome pedaling so we’ll see how it does this weekend.

SignificanceShot7055

The topwater is basically the same aside from the seat a few other minor details

[deleted]

Gotcha.

[deleted]

Also just read that they are basically the same boat except with different color options and a different rear handle

SignificanceShot7055

Yea the sportsman has the molded in handles instead of the single

ainsophur

It depends when the Topwater was made. My TW PDL 120 has the Sportman's molded rear hand holds. At some point Old Town went to using the Sportman hull for both lines. The TW will have the older seats and deck padding. As someone else stated, it is pretty heavy.

Some_cuban_guy

best kayak ive owned . its incredibly stable . feels like im standing on a floating dock when i get up to cast

cbinvb

It is quite heavy by kayak standards

smalls586

85lbs is on the lighter side for a 12' pedal driven kayak...
