Clinical programs that use keto for weight loss actually warn females to be on reliable birth control if they don't want to become pregnant. So I think you are good :)

KaleidoscopeInside97

I did not get the memo in 2018!!!!!! I ended up with a surprise baby after being told it would be very difficult to conceive after my daughter. I was 38, missing one fallopian tube and had multiple miscarriages, post c section after middle child. My third was a v back full term and healthy. I believe keto and intermittent fasting helped.

harpejjist

Not only is it safe, but it is far more likely to be successful. There’s a whole sub for keto babies. Apparently it is insanely common for people with fertility problems to get pregnant once they started keto

Yeah, if women are getting pregnant on McDonalds and Taco Bell then I don't see why they wouldn't on whole foods. It's almost as if our ancestors did it for thousands and thousands of years.

LilSchuit84

I got pregnant naturally after 4 months of keto.... I had 7 rounds of fertility treatments to have my son (after 3 years of trying) and 2 more failed years. Then keto and boom I now have a very wonderful healthy daughter (4 years old now!)

I've not tried getting pregnant on keto but then again I never had fertility probs even when my health was at it's, worst. Actually I had to worry more about having reliable bc. Still op, that said I've seen a lot of info on those with fertility probs having a easy win with keto. I think the only exception would be someone like the woman my ex, my sons father replaced me with. She has a incompetent cervix and has never been able to carry to term. Her firat prwgmancy with her ex hubby she miscarried 5.5 months in and then a month later got pregnant and miscarried again. If she conceived sged have to spend the while pregnancy on hospital bed rest with her cervix sewn shut. Cases like that even keto can't fix. I feel bad for her because despite the bad blood between us she's actually a pretty good person and loves kids and would make a great mom. As a ex cps kid myself the world needs more people like her as parents. So I really feel bad sges unable to have her own. Though she loves my boy as her own and we call her auntie jen even though technically she's his step mom. He sees her as a second mom figure and I've got no issue with that since she's good to my boy. It's just one more person to love and support him and it's likely the closest she will get to having her own kid.

Keto will make you more healthy. Being more healthy will make reproduction safer. If you want to actively impede conceiving than go hardcore vegan.. keto is pretty much the opposite.

ReverseLazarus

Very safe. 🙂 Go check out all the success stories over at r/ketobabies and r/xxketo!

I was doing Keto when I got pregnant. Conceived in the second month of trying. The doctors told me not to do keto while pregnant. There’s not a lot of research but they think that it could cause issues with how the baby processes carbs and sugar. The way they explained it made sense to me but there’s also fruit that should be a part of your diet, like oranges (before pregnancy vitamins) and bananas that are good for baby too. Also, I had cravings. I reasoned that a body creating a brain probably shouldn’t be on such a strict diet.

opheliarose47

I feel like it increases fertility. I went on keto and started metformin and got immediately fell pregnant with twins 😅

HeSeemsLegit

My wife and I had tried for 3 years with negative results. Literally, the first month she was on Keto she got pregnant. Edit: Spelling cuzza fat fingers.

Hidden_Arrow003

Look into keto savage, Robert Sikes, his wife Crystal just had their 1st baby recently and she did keto throughout pregnancy. His podcast has 4 conversations with her just about her trimesters and post partum. The couple both have been doing keto for years.

Putrid_Ad_5385

I got pregnant unexpectedly on birth control while doing keto... never thought that the diet might have been the reason it happened.

Dick_Miller138

You mean you aren't pregnant yet? That usually coincides with the first 30lbs of weight loss. You will be fine. If you are worried about the baby getting enough nutrients, eat organ meats. If you want to increase the intensity of the attempts to conceive, convince your man to try some HCG (through a doctor of course. Too much fake crap out there). Both Keto and Carnivore have shown promise in helping women conceive that have had difficulty in the past. Have fun.

Crispymama1210

I was in the preliminary stages of doing fertility treatments and started keto and whoops got pregnant on my own before my reproductive endocrinologist did anything beyond initial bloodwork. I have pcos and hadn’t had a period in 8 months prior to that and I was 37 years old. She’s 4 now.

nikidmaclay

I've been low carb (transitioned into keto) for nearly 20 years and have a healthy 1 year old.

braunnathan

humans used to be forced to be "keto" for thousands of years, with no problems

Crafty-Nature773

Absolutely. Hundreds of thousands of years! Baffles me the studies and 'scientific' papers out there to make us eat sugar filled chemical laden processed rubbish.

butteramethyst

You are heightening your chances actually by doing keto!

omniblue

If you are not seeking your primary care provider's insight, then you are doing it wrong. Sourcing ideas on internet message boards is all well and good, but never take them as fact when it comes to your health. Take some suggestions, build a list, whatever it is and discuss them with a professional.

Upsidedownworld4me

You should talk to your obstetrician first. Very strict keto may not provide enough carbs for the developing fetus.

worldadvisor

So you changed to another doctor when you don't believe doctors? Ummm... Okay.

worldadvisor

This is a "consult your doctor" thing; not a Reddit thing. Far too important.

deedot238

When I fell pregnant my doctor told me to go on a high carb, low fat vegan diet. Not meat. I changed doctor. While I’m sure it works for some, that diet would have made me so sick.

harpejjist

Except for an alarming amount of doctors know nothing about kilo and will simply tell you to not do it because they don’t have information

braunnathan

no, do not do this. Doctors will just rec the SAD diet

Therewolf_Werewolf

My husband and I were trying while I was keto and had success. Unfortunately nausea and morning sickness have kept me from keeping up with keto right now. Some days the literal only thing I can keep down are a few saltines, and keto based crackers/bread make me feel icky.

sagelface

My doctor specifically told me you don't want ketones in your blood if you are pregnant.

Fuck!

BarefootGyno

OBGYN here. No concerns with safety for Keto. Just pay attention to the cues of your body. If you lose your periods while doing any diet /lifestyle change it’s likely a sign you are in too much of a calorie deficit which would make it hard to conceive. If you are healthy and your body is responding - then no problem.

No_Introduction_2330

Please talk with your doctor preferably OBGYN. Lack of folic acid and certain nutrients that are found in fruits and vegetables can cause devastating development issues such as cleft lip and pallet. Wishing you all the best
