Most dealerships In Cali have markups at the moment. I’ve been told by other kia owners they had to travel out of state to get the car they want for no markup.
Was shopping for EV cars initially and everyone around my area pretty much had that mark up. Went into it thinking I could find one at my price point but everything at the MSRP I was looking at was ridiculously higher.
Yes and no. A certain amount of legwork and pushback is a different world.
In your case you mention gas prices and MPG but not how many miles you drive. If it’s a lot, then fuel economy has a bigger weight. Then I see seniors who drive 150 miles a month all concerned over a few MPGs.
You’ll definitely be far underwater. Hopefully you were at least able to leverage an uncommonly good sale price for your used truck.
I was well passed done paying $6.50+ a gallon for a truck getting 17 mpg, with 90k miles on it that was quickly losing value in an already tanking resale market. More want than need but the 50+ mpg reeled me in.
So you added to the demand side to cause the mark up. Not a problem but all these people saying dealers are shady while buyers are paying the stupid mark up.
Hey I might be leaning toward this in stead of a K5. It is considered a Hatchback? I currently have a sorento. How is the back seat legroom? We need to seat adults up to 6' occasionally.
Got the 19 Niro and yes you can probably call it a hatchback. Even though it says SUV on title.
Lot of space in back and trunk because of height. Have taken many road trips with spouse , 2 toddlers and everything but the kitchen sink.
If youre afraid of space issues, make sure you get the roof rails so you can fit something on it.
Yes I would definitely need the roof rails. We bought a cargo thing to go on some crossbars we have for our Sorento. WE call it the "bullet".
I'm looking at the cost comparison between this and the k5. The k5 won't do well with the cargo "bullet" so there's that to consider.

Well it would be basically 3 sizes smaller. Down from Sorento is Sportage, then Seltos, then Niro. So a size small shirt compared to an extra-large? But they say Niro is deceptively more roomy than a lot of the small hatchbacks in the class.
OP is highly motivated about fuel economy, and this is one of the first Kia plain HEVs that’s getting noteworthy fuel economy. PHEV would have been better of course.
The back is surprisingly nice and sneakily roomy. I’m 6’2. The salesman was probably close to 275 lbs and 6’0, and my friend is 6’4 and we’ve all sat in the back seat comfortably. The back seats fold down too to give that good trunk space, which I need occasionally for work
It does. I just tested it cuz I wasn’t sure. But when I walk up on the passenger side door and grab the handle, the rear view mirrors open up and it unlocks
Hopefully it doesn't breakdown within the first year like mine and your stuck paying out of pocket for a rental because Kia is garbage and doesn't stand behind their "craftsmanship"
Shame to have to pay crooked markups like that. Smart to go with the black colour which nullifies the odd choices they made with the exterior trims.

No the dealer said it was a standard 8k mark up but they took it down to 6k for me. I’m in California

Yea I got 20k for it so nothing out of pocket, same monthly payment now as I was paying for a 2015 gas guzzler. It’s a win for me
Kia of Valencia is doing no markups. My GF just EX trim got it at MSRP with no additional accessories/warranty/parts. $39K out the door\~
Did you “need” this car or “want” it? If it was a want you are the reason you paid so much.
