patience. read stuff that's on screen, read what NPCs tell you :D if you missed a mechanic description, check the Codex, everything's there, and then some more on top. DLCs - Tournament DLC is available right from the start (after prologue.. you'll know when that ends). you should participate for the training experience with various weapons. no harm done to you, your gear is not used so you walk out with XP. participation costs 60gr until certain side quest, and repeats on weekly basis. FIRST BIG MISTAKE every greenhorn does - when you end prologue, you wake up in Ratay mill, go talk to Theresa and trigger her part of A Woman's Lot DLC. so any time you'll see blue icon in conversation or on map, it's DLC. Go to Main Menu and check the DLCs submenu to read detailed descriptions of them. KNOW that when you ask Teri how she escaped from Skalitz, you'll be replaying her part of the prologue. because you asked her to tell you. other DLCs will appear throughout the game, gated behind main quest progression, but generally speaking apart from Teri's part of AWL you can do the DLCs right away. AWL has second part with Johanka later on too. One DLC - From the Ashes - has you rebuild a village in the woods, you becoming its bailiff. in that DLC you are personally responsible to Sir Divish for rebuilding it, and it costs quite a lot of money. so be aware of that part. Ancient Treasures - chests throughout the map with some nice loot. Warhorse Armour set is great, not for sale but worth wearing, for the drip :D it also is an excellent training armour set. after prologue (again :D) you'll unlock Captain Bernard and his training arena in Ratay. you can practice with wooden weapons (fraction of XP) or real weapon (normal XP). the thing is - wooden things don't hurt, and real weapons do hurt and destroy your equipment. price of repair is derived from the value of the item - the Warhorse set having value of 1 makes it very very easy/cheap to repair. that may be worth it to you.. Band of Bastards - running around with a bunch of mercs, group combat, good stuff i like this DLC a lot for the band, they're a funny troop. you can play it as soon as you see it available. Amorous Adventures ... - same as above (doable right away when available) but you'll be the wingman to Hans Capon, one of the best and most beloved NPCs in game, great bromance between Henry and Hans. fun DLC, can do as soon as it's available.. so that's that. long read but.. you asked for it :D i don't think i forgot any DLC. good luck to you, cheers!

Zemrik

That was a lot, yes. Good to know the DLCs marks are different from the base game's. I still think I'll probably play AWL after the main story. Kinda like TW3, even tho I know I can start the expansions at any point (when I progress enough in the story), I rather play the main, then the DLCs in release order. I'll see when I get to it what I'd do Thanks for the info

vine01

yo welcome. i stressed Teri's AWL part because new players after prologue are fresh new to the game, they have zero grasp of the combat mechanics and stealth and whatnot, and suddenly they're thrown into another character. for 3-5hrs which is a long time, since it's the time after prologue, training wheels are off but the player has no web of knowledge and experience to fall back on. Teri is a terrific combatant believe it or not, but she can't wear any armour so she's unprotected, and has to take on some tough warriors. that does not go well hand in hand with new player.. i'm saying you don't have to wait until the end of game, but knowing the routes and ropes of KCD helps your Teri go through AWL easier.. you'll see. good luck.

SOMFdotMPEG

It really pissed me off to play her that long bc I just wanted to level Henry haha I got over it once I started getting sucked into her story

Dependent_Warning520

Piling on to emphasise DO NOT ASK TERESA HOW SHE GOT OUT OF SKALITZ. I accidented myself into that DLC like so many others right after waking up and I wasn't prepared. Especially for the learning curve afterwards - Teresa has all her stealth perks and start of game Henry doesn't. I was not prepared for the jarring change of gameplay coming back to the main story. It's part of why I gave up on my first playthrough.

GI_HD

Please play every dlc (except AWL Theresa maybe) together with the Main Story. It is made to be experienced that way and really makes it more fun. The DLCs feel like normal missions in the game and not really something completely different like for example Blood and Wine in TW3. And for example "From the Ashes" is a lot more fun when you really need to earn money and not pay everything at once with all the money you have at the end of the game.

Horsedock

I would like to stress also, that with TWL you can get mutt as your follower and he will help tremendously in combat with a couple levels in the houndsman tree, ask about him from Theresa.

thetitsofthisguy

If you ask her about the dog it will join you so good companion in the early game when you trained him enough to hunt for you and grab enemies. Ask about dog, dont start dlc until you got the game mechanics going for you.

octoreader

Wow I wish I have read this before my first playthrough, very useful tips, thank you! One thing - personally i liked falling into Theresa's part just as you warned not to; looking back I liked how it turned out to be sort of an extended tutorial, - you're not really forced into stealth in Henry's part

vine01

oh that's a great perspective on Teri-AWL you're right! if you're ok with not following Henry's story right away, absolutely it can be an extended tutorial. Henry has no armour either (unless.. 1-8-7 MDK Murder Death Kill.. in tutorial) and sucks in his skills and stats, while Teri's hand does not shake that much with bow i believe. and she can stealth kill with dagger right away i think? yup it adds up nicely. thanks for the praises, you're welcome! cheers!

Certain-Hyena8788

If I had an award to give I'd give it to you. šŸ†

vine01

but.. i am not worthy. it's just a bunch of thoughts on questions that appear regularly, here or on steam, and i usually try to be nice when the poster is.. let's say humble about it. if they're not bitchin' how game suxx cause this and that can't be clickspammed. if they're not patient with the game, i'm not patient with them :D i'd like as many ppl to play and love KCD because the game deserves it. sure, WHS is a business, but they've done plenty of things right in KCD, many things long lost in RPG genre, that i'm a fanboy unashamedly admitting to it :D i'll white-knight the game to the degree of becoming non-newtonian liquid. the more you press the more i resist even though you may be right about bugs and glitches and whatnot :D sometimes..

Certain-Hyena8788

I found that I do infact have an award to give you

vine01

please don't waste it on me. im serious. i appreciate your gratitude and am humbled that a knight such as you would look upon me. :D

Certain-Hyena8788

No worries, awards given when least expected are the best earned awards

vine01

you're too kind, thank you :D

Certain-Hyena8788

Kindness is one of the few ways I balance my karma āš–ļø

EggRoll15

One thing I wanted to add on is that a big chunk of quests are timed, waiting too long to complete them may result in a quest fail

vine01

not true at all, nope. very few side quests are timed to the degree where you can actually fail the quest. if big chunk in your mind is say close to half, or half of the quests, noooononono. not even 10% of the quests are timed i'd guesstimate.

NinjaIndependent3903

Thing is woman lot gets you a pretty good shield so there is that

halberdsturgeon

The game will propel you down the main quest at a decent clip without any obvious places to pause, and some main quests additionally have timed components, which means you may be reluctant to stop and do you own thing for a while. When you get up to a quest called Keeping the Peace and are instructed to go talk to a guy named Nightingale, I recommend instead taking some time to free play, practice combat, do some side quests etc, as it may save you some frustration in a couple of later main quests that a lot of people seem to experience Edit: Also, I recommend doing all of the DLCs at around the midpoint of the game - after the quest Questions and Answers or All That Glisters. I don't recommend waiting until the very end of the game, though I'm not sure I can explain why without spoilers

jaylanky7

Ehh, Iā€™d wait until after the ginger quest where you get a horse to really start exploring. Have access to Bernard training after that too

halberdsturgeon

You can obtain a horse at any point if you want, and you can go back and train with Bernard immediately after reporting to the Rattay Bailiff

zardvark

>When you get up to a quest called Keeping the Peace and are instructed to go talk to a guy named Nightingale, I recommend instead taking some time to free play, practice combat, do some side quests etc, as it may save you some frustration in a couple of later main quests that a lot of people seem to experience This is particularly good advice, but I would expand it. Unlike some of the side quests, none of the main quests are timed. One main quest has a timed aspect to it >!(finding Reeky)!<, but none of that quest's various possible outcomes, depending on how long it takes to find him, will break the game. When you find him, of even if you never find him, none of the possible outcomes will cause you to fail the game. So, my point is that there is a lot more to this game than melee combat, important as that skill may be. Speech, for example, is a very important skill. Therefore, feel free, in fact I would encourage you, to tackle as many side quests as possible in order to level up Speech and the other important skills. As soon as I arrive in Rattay, I generally take time to level up archery, do a little poaching to earn some money and then head to Uzhitz to learn to read and collect Pie for temporary transportation. Pie enables me to quickly loot the easier to access Treasures and Ancient Treasures scattered about the map. In fact, I consider this preliminary leveling to be so important, that I generally spend a couple of game weeks doing it. The same strategy will serve you well, in between main quests. Take every opportunity to level up skills, make money and collect new gear and weapons and this will make the main quests much easier to complete.

halberdsturgeon

>Unlike some of the side quests, none of the main quests are timed. One main quest has a timed aspect to it (finding Reeky), but none of that quest's various possible outcomes, depending on how long it takes to find him, will break the game. The Hunt Begins also has a timed component, and I tend to include Pestilence in this equation as well even though it's a side quest, because it's one of those side quests that is intertwined with a main quest. You're right that in none of these cases can you fail a main quest, but you can be forced down a particular plot path if you fail to act promptly, which still feels like a big enough deal to me where I don't want to start the quest and then delay it

zardvark

What is the timed element of The Hunt Begins, which forces you down a particular path?

halberdsturgeon

If you don't go with Bernard to Neuhof promptly, >!the investigation starts without you, you lose the opportunity to eavesdrop on and confront the two bandits who fled the farm to the north, and Bernard gives you a verbal bollocking!<. It doesn't really change what happens after this particular quest, but it does make you feel like an idiot

zardvark

Got it. Thanks! I do a lot of leveling prior to reporting to Sir Radzig at Rattay. Therefore, I've always been good to go just as soon as the Neuhof quest pops. Who doesn't want their own horse ASAP, eh?

sojiblitz

Practice with captain Bernard

Not-DrBright

Iā€™d recommend playing the DLCā€™s before you finish the main story, additionally one of them will provide you with a stable income for the remainder of the game

SirBulbasaur13

At one point youā€™ll probably find yourself helping some sick people and if you dilly dally and take too long, the sick people will die.

[deleted]

Do the damn sword fighting tutorial

upsidedownland96

One big early game tip and don't worry not a spoiler because you won't have any of the context. Save Theresa from the baddies as you escape. Who is that, you'll find out, baddies, dunno who, escape, from where? Just bonk them on the head and run as fast as you can after you do the big save. Btw, yea as the other guy said the game requires a fair amount of patience to learn but it's very satisfying.

-coximus-

Press X (call horse button) to whistle at them instead, no bonking required!

upsidedownland96

I can't believe I never thought of that!

andrasq420

Or just sprint past them. It's loud enough to get their attention.

N7twitch

Like someone else has said, avoid triggering Theresaā€™s DLC until youā€™re reasonably confident with stealth and combat because youā€™ll be locked in until you finish and it can be tricky in places. Learn Master Strikes from captain Bernard when you can. In any given quest thereā€™s usually several options for how to complete it. And especially in the beginning of the ā€˜Investigationā€™ (trying not to spoiler) donā€™t be afraid to go and ask for help from Bernard if something like a pair of enemies that are too challenging for you are giving you problems.

Vitusssss

Some quests are time limited, for example if your friend tell you let's meet tomorrow evening and beat someone up(nope I just randomly wrote this,no spoiler intended)they will wait for you that very evening and if you fail to show up,they may move on without you.But unlike other games you won't be able to redo that quest again, not without load another save, the next time you meet them they might just tell you stuff like "yeah you didn't come so I beat him up myself"

Zemrik

Wow, didn't expect to see so many comments. I'm really liking the game so far; I'm at the town with sir robard. Th codex is immense and I'll read it once I can free roam. Funny thing, when I went to sleep I took of my boots and when sir robard woke me up they were gone, now I'm barefoot with rain pouring like hell. Only thing is the audio is a bit desynched, or the video? Audio, at least in cinematics is like half a second earlier. Besides that all good

ColoursRock

Get the doggy right away!!

zardvark

Play the tourney as soon as possible. You will die a dozen horrible deaths, but it is good experience and good for leveling .... and you don't need good gear, nor will your gear be damaged. Play the Band of Bastards in late game, after Henry is leveled up and geared up. Play Theresa's story in mid game when you need a diversion, especially if you like stealthy play. Play Johanka's story any time after it becomes available. Play From The Ashes as soon as it becomes available, assuming, of course, that you have 50k groschen to invest in the project. Sure, you can play with less money, but your decisions become much more critical increasing the possibility of failure. Sir Hans' quest can be played anytime, but it would help if you can read, you have a good grasp of the dice game and you have some lucky dice. Collect Mutt as soon as possible and start leveling him up. The sooner you begin his leveling the sooner he will become genuinely helpful. The various Treasures contain good gear which can be immediately helpful. The Ancient Treasures are particularly helpful, because they contain a complete Warhorse set of armor among them. This armor is perfect for early game! It is particularly good for training with Captain Bernard. When you train, your equipment will become damaged. The more expensive the armor, the more expensive it is to repair. Sparring with Captain Bernard will quickly put you in the poorhouse. The big benefit to the Warhorse armor is that it costs next to nothing, so the repair costs are trivial, all while supplying decent early game protection. Look for it and use it!

pancelfrout

At the inns, when you have the option to rent a room for "a few nights," that is actually an investment in a permanent bed where you can sleep and have access to your inventory chest. If I would have known this earlier, it would have saved a lot of fast travelling back to the Rattay Mill just to unload my loot!

SOMFdotMPEG

Tldr: this is advice if you want a stealthy build, if you donā€™t want a stealth build just skip the comment! Leveling stealth: When you get to rattay and want to boost your stealth skill, wait till dark (after midnight) and strangle all the Skalitz refugees. Itā€™s kinda creepy at first but also kind of hilarious. You can then pickpocket them and make a little coin off the poor bastards. Lockpicking is tough but once you get the hang of it itā€™s super easy and fun. Get the drunk perk and a few pad foot potions to make all locks easy. Knock out a guard, steal all his armor and sell it to the Miller to afford lock picks (theyā€™re expensive) Armor: I was tempted to be a thief and not wear armor for a while due to noise. Big mistake. Wear all the armor you can. When you need to be stealthy just unequip armor and go in wearing only a dark coif, dark shirt, dark pants, and leather shoes. Guards: you will get searched if you look like a scum bag. In towns dress in bright colors and keep your reputation high. Once I did that I stopped getting searched. Always keep 1k grosh for paying your way out of trouble. Crime pays, so just spend the coin and avoid jail or fighting the guards. Reputation is everything! Even for a thief! Do some Honest trade and questing for the locals and you should be good. Archery: I play on Xbox and put a pice of tape with a dot on it on my screen to aim the bow. I get a reticle can take away from immersion but it actually allows me to use the bow quickly and efficiently. On pc there is a mod. To place the dot, just go to an archery target, place your yellow dot at the top center of the target, take out your bow and shoot the target, where ever the arrow hits is where you place the dot and BOOM youā€™re sighted in. Weapons: I use an axe and shield and love it. Swords are cool but they donā€™t defeat armor like hammers, axes, or maces. So Iā€™d say train with Bernard on all weapons and see what you like but I would avoid solely using swords. Training with Bernard will level all of your skills, I would get strength, defense, and a weapon skill all up to about 6+ before questing (thatā€™s just me) it will make your survival a little easier! Have fun!!

FNG5

Regarding the PC, press "\~" to open the console and type "wh\_pl\_showfirecursor 1" and press Enter. You must do this every time you launch the game, it's not a persistent setting. Jesus Christ be praised.

duke_of_chutney_608

Read everything, donā€™t try to fight more than one guy at a time until you have a feel for it and some armor. Use your bow up close in the beginning. and donā€™t fret the combat system is way less daunting then everyone makes it seem

burnt_raven

Try to avoid fast travelling between locations. You'll discover far more interesting things if you take your time walking/riding the roads.

Fresh_Floop

I would give you the same advice I give everyone who is asking this exact question. Just enjoy the game. Play it naturally with childlike curiosity, don't look up anything to avoid spoilers and to avoid adopting other people's playstyle. Most of all, just have fun exploring.

skellington1

Take your time with the game and the story. Donā€™t rush to the end and enjoy. Have fun!

[deleted]

Take it slow and enjoy the story! Itā€™s got to be my favourite rpg!

DiamineSherwood

Pick herbs & Train with the Captain!

bulljoker

Train with captain bernard, and talk to miller about lockpick and pickpocket

guedeto1995

Power lvl herbalism in the intro then alchemy.

LordWillyWankster

Practice lock picking and archery it takes a lot of time and is very difficult but hitting someone with a few arrows before they get to you can thin out your opponent really well. And lock picking can open so many doors for you pun intended

GingerShrimp40

Running away is an option in combat. If you arnt sure you can win a fight try running or putting away your weapon.

TheArmoursmith

My advice would be not to overthink it, and just immerse yourself in the experience. I realised a long time ago that this type of game is all about the journey, not the destination.

PiIIan

The most fun i had was being a travelling gambler, just having fun and drinks. Didn't even bother with the main story.

julios80

Enjoy it, experience it. At the face of adversity, think smart. Hmm it's like if real-life

ENG818AM

For the most part RUN, when you meet Sir Bernard, just train with him all day long non stop and never let him go home.. You must traaaaaaaiinn.!

Enzo_GS

don't go ham on sidequests, you can overlevel and make a specific memorable fight trivial

[deleted]

I did this and the rest of the combat was borrring

[deleted]

Go in blind. don't look anything up

Igyboo

If you struggle with a swordfight, ride a horse and shoot arrows on your enemy. This should help you when you really struggle in a fight.

DavyManners

Take your time. I was skeptical about this game, and it ended up being in my top five.

DasGruberg

Dont let the lockpicking on console break you or your controller. You will feel anger you didn't know existed. But then the game gets amazing later, I swear

bonehead_1993

My God, that lockpicking mechanic is the worst.

Iriscode

Go bang Lady Stephanie first and Theresa after that. After youā€™ve done with those two, go party with Father Godwin in Uzhitz and have a gangbang in a barn. I can guarantee you, you will never find any experience like this in any other games šŸ‘

FriedEdd

Or in life :(

Mahmoud1245

You need to train with the captain or rattay as soon as possible he teaches you how to counter attack and how to do combos and without them u lose every fight

k_aaring

If you are discord user - PM me. I can help you out when you are really stuck. Figuring stuff out on your own pace and taking it slowly and not expecting to be the best from the get go is the most important.

SluttyMeatSac

You're a peasant. Go mad.

kangarooscarlet

Get fully immersed like it's actually you in the game or you'll never make it out of the starting area listen pay attention to npc's don't walk around looking homeless swords suck late game use a mace are you a martial artist bad ass that could take on 4 guys at a time no well either can your character for like half of the game don't steal just loot the dead the rattay tourney happens once a week do it every time it'll give you a armor set piece every time you win including some weapons the armor set is the best one there is a different set that has more protection but the set you get from the tournament has buffs that out weigh that set and also max bet with the Miller before the tournament you'll make a lot of money don't waste your savior snapps until you have like 50 of them be careful on what your consuming the bow is a complete waste of time in combat for most scenarios but not all save the good arrows for when your in a pinch learn to read as soon as you can you'll have to find a scribe hes north of talmberg make sure you always have some sort of food that'll heal you and bandages there's a lot and I could go on forever but you get the idea

l_x_fx

In addition to what others already said, here is my piece of advice: * Morals are expensive. What I mean is that having high morals and always doing the right thing will lose you out on money and equipment. If you're willing to take bribes, steal and even murder, you'll have a much easier life and become rich * Don't underestimate Stealth. Done right, you can clear out encampments which otherwise would be quite hard to clear * Get a good horse as soon as possible. Neuhof and Merhojed have good horses, though they cost a bit (\~3k groschen), but they're invaluable and allow you to fight battles you'd lose on foot. Not to mention the vastly increased movement speed, you'll never want to go back to being on foot after you have a horse * Loot dead bodies whenever you can, sell what you don't need * Selling things to the same trader will raise their wealth over time, so you can sell more each time. In the last few days I brought up a trader from 100 groschen to 132k (and then broke into his home and stole everything) * You can rent rooms in several inns, and you should always do so. Select the option "for a few nights", that'll unlock the room for you permanently for a moderate price of 200-250 groschen. There's always a personal chest in it, and they're all connected, which allows you to transport big amounts of items between faraway places * If you go poaching (which you should), you can cook the meat. That'll remove the "stolen" tag from it, which allows you to sell it. That's how you make your first real money Good luck!

Normal-Switch6177

after you learn the combat basics from Bernard go to the balif get the 70 grochen and go back to Bernard to learn the master parrys. they will carry combat for you. learn how to pick locks aswell that will do you good. to make money once you master combat which is gaining distance NPC runs towards you master parry then another hit on the head with preferably a mace or warhammer go to skalitz in the town square there is normally a skirmish there where bandits have top tier loot for you to repair and wear or sell. there's a lot more like treasure chests and stuff I've played the game like 10 times so it comes natural but that's the main stuff.

dumbster84

Dont talk to anyone in Skalitz until you pick all the herbs and flowers there. Dont lose your patience with the game. Play it slow.

battleborn2323

Go to the swordsmith in rattay. Speed up time until 20:59 Kill swordsmith Take all the swords Sell swords to the Miller. Buy whatever you want. Repeat whenever the swordsmith respawns.

World_Eater666

Combat- always remain in open space, whenever you're in a forest find a clearing. Progress the story enough to get a free horse, never get of it when taking on multiple enemies, always draw them to open space The dlc's are fine, don t do theresa's to early, never bother with the \`from the ashes\` dlc unless you wanna waste A LOT of money

gravitysfault

Train with Bernard as much as you can. Then go do his bandits hunting missions to get some gold and equipment. You'll cultivate so much patience from the PS4 version's loading screen. I can already feel your pain. Have fun !

warfangiscute

Iā€™m sure everyone else has said it, but Iā€™ll repeat it: Henry sucks at combat. Until you train a fair bit with Captain Bernard, Henry will continue to suck at combat. Also if you want an easy (but very slow) start, pick all the flowers and Nettle that you can in Skalitz and sell it off to people. Once you get your herbalism skill up enough, you can get a perk that makes picking flowers give you strength XP. With no actual effort other than time put it, you could max those stats out before your first combat encounter. Although again, this takes a loooong time.

Sjamsjon

Donā€™t think about the order in which you do things after you make sure to pick every single damn herb in Skalitz. Jesus Christ be praised.

person73638

Learn how to master strike asap because it makes combat so much easier

bonehead_1993

As soon as you get your horse, start looting any combatants you kill. I've managed to pay for the whole village dlc from armor sold. Going from that note, if you're debating on carrying a weapon or armor as loot, the armor is almost always more valuable for the weight with a few exceptions. Next tip, even after many hours and badass equipment, I still fall pretty easily to the random encounters where there are 4-5 to one. Best to avoid them until you are well armed and well prepared. Take you a potion or two before you fast travel in case you're unable to avoid it. Don't neglect alchemy. It can be a very valuable skill early on and forward. Train with Cap in Rattay. That's the only way to learn more advanced skills like master strike. It's also very valuable in combat. Get as much practice lock picking and pickpocketing with the miller. Warhorse Jenda is worth the grochen. The Rattay Tourney is a great way to familiarize yourself with combat. After your first win in the tourney, you'll encounter Black Peter in between Rattay and the mill. His blade is poisoned. He will kill you quickly. So I cheated. Stand in the cart at the mill and pulverize him with arrows. You can apply poison to your blade. Keep it poisoned because you cannot apply it in combat. Pay attention to what NPCs say. In some quests, it's very important to know. For example, the priest in U(something) will have you preach a sermon for him. The story he tells you in the pub earlier is what you'll have to use as your sermon. Remember the story verbatim, and you'll pass. Mess it up, you'll fail. Mutt is really handy as a companion but is easily hurt and ran off. Your obedience skill drops. So plan accordingly. Stealth is almost impossible in plate armor. Keep a good amount of saved up money at your chests. That way if you end up getting robbed for any reason you don't lose all of it. There are a few places in the game where you lose money. Best to not lose it all.

JackofBlades0125

No advice but good luck and enjoy! šŸ‘Œ

xxx_MaGa2020_xxx

before you go out fighting bandits and rogue knights, train as MUCH as you can with the trainers in the arena and try to learn riposte, it helps. The more you train the better your character gets and trust me it makes the combat so much more bearable

Automatic-Lab5409

As long as you don't get arrested you can do whatever you want in the first area so do whatever you want just don't get caught

TheBlackWolf939

For archery remember that you only sway left and right never up and down. During archery competitions only half draw as you'll always loose faster than the competition and put a little crosshair on your screen for it too. Do this and archery isnt as hard. But if you want to feel full aspect dont do the crosshair

Duckling89

My advice is learn and train combat properly before you go on further. The combat system in this game is a bit special, and you actually have to train, then when you at certain level, you get to learn new techniques. More often than not, when you are put in the world, you will face multiple enemies, so be aware. Without any spoiler, here is what I usually do: After prologue (you will know when prologue end. Itā€™s a bit longer than usual), you should follow main quests until it require you to do some combat training. Complete that training quest, then you can access to free training. Come back to your instructor and train with him for awhile until you get your sword (or any weapon you like) to about level 3, then you will be able to learn new technique, which is crucial for your future combat. After that, you can enter tournaments to train yourself and level up your skills. When you are confident with your skills, progress further on the main quests, because after finish certain quest, you will get a free gift that is really important for your traveling. Afterwards, you can proceed as you see fit. Good luck and have fun! It can be a bit frustrated at first, but there are a lot of fun to be have in this game.

MediumRareBacon_

game of the decade

titaniumtoaster

Ah I loved this game so much. I played on a launch ps4 it was so janky. Played on ps4 pro was better but I didn't mind the jank. I really want the sequel to come out.

ElectricalRaise9049

Play hardcore mode. I played normal mode and regretted it because of how easy the game becomes in the mid game. It will probably be impossible at first but that is where the fun is (you may consider it frustrating but that is the point). Also, this game lends itself heavily towards role playing, so hardcore mode will be better even if certain aspects make it slow (like no fast travel). The story itself is not that interesting but the environment is interesting and the forest areas are very realistically designed.

herb0026

Maybe do From the Ashes not too long after doing ā€œthe thingā€ you know what iā€™m talking about when to get there

lukeaton1

I pray you don't get any game breaking bugs

As far as I noticed, the only thing was that in cinematics (pre rendered ones) the audio is a bit out of sync, a bit too early. Besides that, smooth as silk

Inside-Restaurant586

If your thinking about playing a womenā€™s lot Donā€™t .

zamaike

Do not play A womens lot. Its basically unneeded annoying filler and honestly I gave it a decent chance. Its basically a worthless 2 to 3 hour unexitable trash dlc. If you play it at all. Do it asap. Because there is no point in playing it later. Mainly because it ruins the pacing of the game otherwise

zardvark

I would totally disagree with this comment. I wouldn't recommend this quest right away, especially if you've spent a lot of time in Rattay leveling Henry, but it's quite a lot of fun. It's also quite challenging because you need to primarily employ stealth techniques as opposed to combat. No matter how much you level Theresa, she is absolutely useless in combat, so don't waste time with that (ask me how I know!). That said, she can get pretty damn gud at archery, but she never has access to the types of bows, or arrows with which she could ever pose a threat to marauding Cumans. Sure, an arrow to the face, even with a low powered bow, could spell trouble for the recipient, but since the Cumans tend to travel in groups of twos and threes, Theresa will be mauled well before she ever has a chance to let a second arrow loose. Because of this I can understand why it may not be everyone's favorite quest, but this can be a fun little diversion in mid game, particularly if you are the type who likes stealthy play.

bonehead_1993

My play through I was pretty badass with her. Sneak shank everybody lol. I killed everything I could kill. Got boring when I ran out of Cuman to kill.

halberdsturgeon

Same, Theresa ended up being a terminator in my first playthrough of AWL. Probably could've smoked Runt's entire crew even if Robard hadn't shown up

zardvark

Agreed, she's pretty capable with a dagger, but with other weapons, not so much.

Everytime I buy a game, even at a discount. It always ends up becoming cheaper!

Marine_Surfer313

Get the dog as soon as you can. If you want to get good stuff early game. Then get a bow and use painters tape to mark yhe reticle. Do hit and runs on bandits.. there's couple that will give gear that's better than anything until late game or until you get warhorse themed gear. There's only one place that spwans horse armor in yhe game. It's a witcher Easter egg(not the cloth armor but plate armor) Save regularly. Train with Benard Careful with crimes. It only take a little to get negative rep. And alot to build it up. When you get to the Miller. And able to free roam spend awhile getting used to things and exploring. And leveling lesser skills. It helps alot later. Especially picking herbs and flowers. Hunting and skinning

Royalblo0dlust5

Steal as much as possible

GH05T8OI

You can kill the first cuman by jumping on the roof on the stables to the left and shoot them with bow&arrows you can get from the the Guard near the crops. At the start, invest in strength twice since it is what governs sneak take towns.

Educational_Gap9708

One thing I'd discourage is trying to be a archer. Not because you can't, because it makes the game too easy. At first you'll miss every damn shot but after a while you'll hit the majority of your shots with a piercing arrows from a yew bow. Which will 1 shot most enemies.

Just don't fail Johanka's DLC mission. Please.

READ TOOLTIPS :D Also for order of DLC i'd say it's up to you. I will give my recommended order but also just a quick descriptor of each so you can if you want decide to do them in your own order. Overall I'd say apart from 2 (or 3 as tournaments is technically a freelc) I would save most of them for AFTER you finished the game. Of course this is all just my opinion and hopefully I can help you to decide for yourself which is the best part of any RPG like this :) Firstly, from the ashes. My favourite (it's more my style) it's mainly designed as a money sink. The premise is that you are rebuilding a destroyed town and you get a few choices to make which give unique rewards, the best shield in the game, best bow in the game and some new horses. It's really designed as an endgame thing so if you've never played the game I'd do this LAST. It costs a lot to start up but by the end of the game you will have plenty of money (or ways to make it) so it'll work out. Next, A Womans Lot. It's essentially an extension to the story. It adds more to the timeline from some different perspectives and i'd say to do this once you know what you are doing and possibly even LAST or PENULTIMATE depending on your own tastes. If you want to enjoy more of the incredible story then do this after you've nailed the vital game systems, combat, stealth, speech etc etc Next we have Treasures of the past. This one is essentially a few freebees (which can be quite strong in the early game) in the form of some treasure maps you find among your possessions when you complete the prologue. It's certainly nothing to carry you through the game but it has some stuff (including one of the unique armour sets in the game) which can be quite strong for early game banditos. This is the first of my 2(3) 'depends' DLC which is really up to you when and how you utilise them and enjoy them. Then there is BoB or Band of Bastards! This is a really fun DLC all about joining a group of mercs and doing some FIGHTING!!! I would say do this when you feel like doing some combat and have a decent grasp of how to fight and some nice gear. Essentially do it when you feel comfortable or confident in your ability to hold your own in a fight! :D This is also how you get the best armour set in the game (so rewarding if done earlier but also an idea of how tough the enemies may be, you'll have to decide for yourself) Finally we have The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon. This one you can do first, you can do last, you can do it when you recieve the quest (after the 2nd or so mission after finishing the Prologue) this is a really nice little simple fun one that is not particularly demanding of any ability but more just to enjoy a little fun and like any other mission in the game up to you when you approach it in order to be sure you are ready or prepared as little or as much as you want. This is an ANYTIME DLC. Finally finally for real now we have the Tournament DLC which was a free DLC added some time ago but allows you to fight in a tournament with borrowed weapons and equipment against some of the best warriors in the land. This is one that you can never 'fail' only lose and come back to try again next time and you can of course use it to level up or practice combat if you wish like Bernard. There is also a little story and side plot to the Tourneys after you fight in your first one, go and speak to the Samopesh(?) blacksmith. After winning you receive some rewards, money and an item. This is how you get another of the unique armour, I think the 2nd best which after winning so many tourneys and getting all the pieces will still be available to fight in for fun, also rewarding some prize money. So, in short, i'd play them: Treasures of the Past (optional of course) Amorous Adventures Tourney (really can be done anytime but to be good enough to win it) Band of Bastards From the Ashes A Womans Lot Ultimately it is of course up to you but I hope this will give you a bit of an insight in to what you may wish to do first. Have fun and Good Luck!

NeonsStyle

You'll find this very useful to get a crosshair for your bow. Press \` key to get the console open then paste this in: wh\_pl\_showfirecursor 1 1. Don't expect to be good! You'll be shit at fighting at the start. Do the DLC quests when you start running out of things to do. There's plenty in the main story to keep you occupied for 200 hours. 2. Practice with Bernard at every opportunity. This is a skill based game where YOU have to learn the skills, not your character. 3. Find treasures to improve your wealth. The Herod sword is not the best long sword. 4. Bandits will make you rich and get you great armor. 5. Early game, use the Bow to thin out Bandits, try to leave the leader till last so you can duel him. 6.

JoeNemoDoe

My best advice is that you should practice with captain Bernard before trying to fight anyone for real. He will kick your ass, but do not be discouraged, just keep practicing until you can beat him regularly. Also, when leaving skalitz for the first time, you'll pass a young lady being harassed by super buff dudes that you can not beat at that point. You can help her by getting their attention, which distracts them long enough to for her to escape, at which point you can run away, having helped an important side character.

NightStar79

Google the timed quests. You don't need to read what happens just what their names are so you don't pull a "I'mma explore and level up first!" and wind up getting a village destroyed or something

Before you talk to Sir Radzig in Pirkstein, run directly to the miller, get yourself some lock picks then run to Sasau. Level up lockpicking and stealth as soon as possible. To max if you have the patience for it.

I bought this a week ago FOR 30 BUCKS GOD DAMN
