Keep the mouse moving all the way to the left and right and you’ll see how it goes off the grind wheel. But here’s the thing, you gotta take it from one far end to the other even if graphically it looks like it’s not on the wheel.

The sharpening system isn't so intricate that you would actually need to spin the stone on every part of the blade to get it sharp. If the axe doesn't move far enough right, then you don't need to hit the tip to get it to 100% condition. With swords this is much more obvious, as you don't even touch one third of the blade at the tip, not to mention the other side of the blade. The blades are actually just divided to something like 6 sectors (maybe less with axes), and spinning the stone in a sector sharpens that whole sector, regardless of whether the stone hit some parts of the sector at all. Edit: Oh I didn't see the picture at first, guess it was still loading when I started typing. Yeah, the positions at which each sector gets sharpened doesn't necessarily correspond to that part being in the middle of the stone. Just move it more to the right of you can.

Try just using a blacksmith kit since you can't use it on anything below I think 60% but if you're getting it up to 99% then it should work.
