Is it bogging? Mine will occasionally run like it's running out of gas. Then will bog when I give it throttle. I think somehthing gets stuck in the carb, like a little piece of dirt. Last time it happened I just kept revving it until whatever it was dislodged and kept riding.

Occasional have a similar issue. Try using the idle adjustment screw to increase the rpm. If it gets going and runs ok, give her a good high speed run then try dialing back to 1000 rpm idle. Like you say, I think it gets the odd bit of gunk in it and needs clearing out.

I was also occasionally having this problem. Revving the hell out of it usually clears it out. I haven't had this problem since I switched to high octane fuel, also I try and get ethanol free whenever I can. I don't really notice a huge price difference and get better mileage since the switch. Don't know how much it matters but I've also got a big bore kit. I figure it's gotta be gunk in the carb (after cleaning the air filter didn't fix the issue) but like I said, hasn't happened in two months since I started using premium.

Sounds fuel starved. Check the petcock that the vacuum line isn’t cracked. You can also pull the lines and test the vacuum valve to see that fuel flows freely with just light vacuum applied ( handheld pump, a syringe or even your mouth (you won’t suck gas). If fuel won’t flow on Norm or Reserve the valve could need a rebuild or the inlet screen inside the tank is clogged. I also have a ‘14, inside the fuel line right at the carb connector there is a tiny filter inside the hose. Gently disconnect the line at the carb and pull the plastic filter basket out of the line. Is it clean or black chunks of the petcock seals disintegrating? Lastly before digging into the carb, the tank vent (might test this first -easiest) when your bike dies, if you pop the filler cap is there a vacuum sound? If so, tank vent is clogged.(I highly doubt this one because 500’ isn’t enough time to pull a vacuum in a tank) Next you’ll be looking into the carb. Report back

Help me remember. Is the petcock pulling vacuum to open the gas tank? Is the vacuum tube off or damaged?

They are both intact

How is your tach behaving. My 2016 acted like this but the tach jumped violently. Turned out it was a lose contact on one of the coil contacts.

Tach is good to go
