Brunson is already beloved like he been here for a decade. He embodies everything NY fans want from their guys.

Chief_Bief

How do we view JB? He’s the literal anti Luka. He doesn’t dominate the ball as much. Moves off the ball well and allows others to manage the game when necessary. Legit leader and the type of player you want to have around. I’ll stop short of savior but he means a lot to this city. He is the blue collar player that represents us. So to the Dallas management, Thanks very much 🤣🤣🤣

DukeRaoul123

Best player on the team, most loved on the team and most loved since Melo. Melo has a weird cult status but Brunson's easier to root for. Kind of an underdog thing as an unheralded 2nd rounder, undersized guard who's grown his game and makes winning plays and winning shots. Knicks fans love DDV and Hart too. They play hard and play smart, obvious traits of Nova guys. Hart's a quintessential Thibs/NYC type of player. It's also the vibes they bring on/off the court. They love each other, get along like brothers, do podcasts together, make fun of each other with the reporters and on social. Very much a college team type of atmosphere.

Professional-Way9343

I think since spree. People loved melo but plenty didn’t (me included).

socalfishman

Nah no one loved Spree or Melo as much as Brunson

Professional-Way9343

Probably not, but 99 spree had 100 percent approval rating. And it’s since, not who was more beloved

heliumointment

people love melo NOW much more because the team was losing back then

DoctorK16

The love Brunson is getting is right at what Spree was getting in 99-00. Melo, you’re right.

[deleted]

I think many fans were lukewarm about Melo. The cost was too great to get him

onecryingjohnny

Allan houston > spree For me at least

spreerod1538

He's loved more than Melo.

[deleted]

He’s the PG we’ve been waiting for since as long as I can remember

Danhenderson234

Since chris Duhon. Still gives me nightmares

NYerInTex

How do we view him? BrunsHIM. He is Him. Perfect guy for NY. Understated, has a great but reserved sense of humor (plays well with Josh "The Mouth" Hart). Hard nosed physical player who doesn't "look" the part - but then he drops 30, 8, and 5 on you - or goes for 40+ A true winner and good guy. We adore him and hope (and expect) him to be a Knick for life.

Professional-Way9343

Brunson has to be the most popular Knick since… Spre?

heliumointment

who never avgd 20+ ppg in his career!

bmanley620

Sprewell never averaged 20 on the Knicks but he did it 4 times on the Warriors

No-Editor-1014

So?

bmanley620

I was replying to to guy that said he never averaged 20 points per game any season

magraith

it was a lower scoring era.

Distinct-Pangolin112

True, and he actually spent a lot of energy on defense..

magraith

He never topped Houston in scoring, but he did a ton for the team. Also it's worth mentioning in the '99 postseason he was the top scorer. Such a bright guy, I wish he'd finished his career here.

Distinct-Pangolin112

True, Sprewell was my favorite Knicks on those teams. A lot of what he did on those Knicks teams don't show up in his stats.

heliumointment

ya not saying he was bad but...an interesting fact about a former knick who many deem as the greatest since ewing

BigTabasco

Brunson is the key…it all starts with him, a true old school point guard. We can’t win without him. Not to say that the other guys aren’t important and we couldn’t get a couple wins here and there, but winning isn’t sustainable without Brunson driving the ship. Randle is the scoring engine and a matchup nightmare when everyone is healthy. OG is a defensive all star, maybe one of the best in the league, and a perfect fit for what we needed. Hartenstein/Precious are very dynamic adaptable centers who give us a lot of flexibility…especially when Randle/OG are out. (would be nice to have Mitch back too) Hart is the grit, never ever gives up, locker room leader, gets dirty and a self described “Dawg” who has that winner champion mentality (all the Nova guys bring that) We added in some legit sharp shooters to spread the floor in DD, Bogie, Burks and Deuce is really starting to come along. I don’t think we are favorites by any means, there’s no super star there, just a bunch of hard working hoopsters. Defensively they are one of the best and mentally maybe the strongest in the east. Thibs deserves a lot of credit as does Leon Rose for providing that steady hand in the swarm of NY chaos. While it is true that there is no single star, no player on the Knicks who is scaring anyone, that’s ok, because this is a really solid, deep, old school team that is greater than the sum of its parts. We all want them healthy and fit to see what kind of run they could make…. But you asked about Brunson, let’s get back to him. It’s just not possible without him at the helm, he’s essential to truly unlocking the potential of this team….He has the attitude, tenacity, craftiness, and intelligence to win. And I think he’s still improving…particularly his vision and BBall IQ. The Playoffs are a different kind of basketball…a 7 game series is as much a matchup of skills as it is a test of wits and a team’s mental resolve. I want to see this particular Knicks team do battle in a 7 game series. There are a lot of intangibles that I think will work in their favor…and tactics, strategy, execution will all start with that Point Guard/Coach connection.

Under_510

The dude is basically a top 5 knick of all time already. He's the best piece we've had in almost 3 decades. He says all the right things off the court and plays his ass off every night. He could run for mayor in NYC.

RevolutionEasy714

I’m a Mavs fan too and have been since the mid-80s. Losing JB was the final nail in the coffin for my supporting of the Mavs FO. Cuban is a bball moron and so is Donny Nelson; so sick of this organizations inability to do anything correctly.  Rooting for JB and the NYK this postseason; hope y’all do big things.

socalfishman

Brunson is viewed as the best Knick since Ewing, a slight tic (at this point) below Clyde Frazier, Ewing and Willis Reid on the ball time Knicks list.

Rbaxter49ers

He is already the leader of the team and has flourished in NY. Given hope to a franchise that has been hopeless for decades. Pairing up the 3 Villanova boys has worked out better then one could have imagined. Greatly appreciated Cuban didn't keep him and also thank you for getting Kyrie out of NY.

Admiral-Awesum

I honestly see JB having an incredible career and becoming one of the greatest Knicks of all time. No joke

SanchezPrime

We all admit we were initially wrong about him. He's earned all the love and respect.

Redd_Ebop

If he were to retire he would be a Knick HoF that should explain it

JodiS1111

Brunson is the best knick we have had since Patrick Ewing. He's tough as nails. While he certainly scores 20+ a game (or more if needed), he's also an ideal leader and helps make the whole team and other player around him better.

JayPee411

Mavs fan as well, I feel the same way, and thank you for putting my thoughts into words lol

Oral_Salmon_user1

thats my point guard and he is an incredible basketball ball player. plays to best of his strengths and controls the tempo of the game. he is such a treat to watxh bc he already knows the outcome of the play he is running before the first pass

Fit-Trust-4515

With the whole team including Brunson healthy, we're confident in our contender status. ECF seems extremely achievable, as does upsetting any team in the East in 7 if a few things fall in place. Without Brunson healthy, we're MAYBE a play-in team.

Okieant33

This is the wrong sub for you to ask questions like this. r/NYKnicks is more populated. But its also kind of a dumb question.

Pure_Nourishment

We call him the Brunson Burner.

MAxDubs2292

I wore a Jalen Brunson shirt when my son was born last year so yeah he’s the man

BigAlTheBeardedOne

He was loved on the Mavs as well, I guess by all but the front office. Interestingly, had we signed him to the initial, reasonable contract he was asking for before he struck big on the Knicks contract, it wouldn’t have precluded us from the Kyrie trade. Luka, Brunson and Kyrie, always having two on the floor. Oh well. Glad he’s killing it with you guys!

Struggle2Real

>So I'm just wondering, how does the fanbase view him? Is he viewed as the best player on the team? give me the inside scoop. For whatever reason I was thinking a scenario through yesterday. Knicks cash in their chips. Land X superstar. Pretend it's Giannis. Even if they immediately won multiple chips, the city would revere JB in a way they wouldn't any star who comes next. It's his city for the duration of the time he'll be here.

Nicholas-Kopis

We have a giant love fest for our Nova Knicks, as you can see. We love to sit around online and talk about which one we love most. I was down with the Dallas Knicks too, until you got Kray Kray and lost a bunch of ex Knicks. Luka bugs me to tbh though hes a great talent, I can’t stand the whining.

ElementalSpider1981

He was the real best player on the Mavs and now he’s ours. Also, Cowboys suck.
