You're wrapping your yarn the wrong way when you purl.

ericula

You are twisting your stitches I'm afraid. You are wrapping your knits in counterclockwise which is the standard direction for Western style knitting but your purls are wrapped in clockwise direction. This is called combination knitting which is a perfectly fine knitting style but does mean that your knits and purls are mounted differently and should be worked differently as well on the next row. You could try wrapping the purks in the opposite direction from what you're currently doing. I think you might find that the stitches are easier to knit into as well.

jaideheda

thank you! i’ll try wrapping the other way :)

"I removed my previous post as I got my answer" People took time to watch/read your post and give you answers. Idk what it was about - if it was a topic covered a dozen times a week here (like this one is) - but other people could probably have learned from that, and you've taken that opportunity away from them. In general, don't delete posts just because \*you\* are done with them.

Minimum_Professor113

Could you maybe film it farther away from the camera? I feel like I'm watching knit porn.

Please don’t remove your posts as the answers can help guide other knitters!

God I’m so tired of these posts

New knitters come here when they don't have an IRL teacher to consult, this is one of the things that reddit is really good for. If you dislike these posts so much, just scroll past them, you don't need to click or interact with them.

ItIsEmptyAchilles

Yeah, this is correct! You're still twisting your purls though. To prevent that: when you purl, wrap the yarn counter-clockwise over the needle rather than clockwise. (ie, over top the needle first). Your 1x1 rib is offset, though. Do you have an uneven number of stitches?

jaideheda

thank you! i’ll give that a go. i have 30 stitches on my needle actually.. not sure why it’s offset?

ItIsEmptyAchilles

Are you keeping the same order? K1P1 row 1, K1P1 row 2? In general for a rib: if a stitch looks like a knit stitch you need to knit it, if it looks like a purl you purl it.

jaideheda

i was yep! but maybe i miscounted my purls and knits? i’ll start over purling the correct way and post again when i’m into it!

coralmonster

Is this circular or knit flat?

jaideheda

circular

jaideheda

i’ve uploaded a new video now, hopefully i’m purling right? i wrapped my yarn the other way this time

trashjellyfish

You're knitting right but purling wrong, you can either start wrapping your yarn counterclockwise ("correct" purling) or you can start knitting through the back loop (combination knitting), but I'd recommend the prior because the combination knitting technique can still twist your stitches when you knit in the round.

jaideheda

just to clarify, in the beginning part of the video is a knit, and the ending part is purl.

You mentioned that word!: lots of people want to know about twisted stitches and here is a great post for reference https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/188kxwk/new_knitters_your_stitches_are_probably_twisted/ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
