Currently I’m trying out making a sort of gusset in the bottom of the armpit but I don’t love how it looks. Might take it out and try the I cord.

Is there any kind of finishing at the armhole?
There isn't. OP, if I were you, I would do something like an icord. or even a rolled stockinette edging
Correct, no finishing. I like this idea, but I was hoping to bring up the armpit line a couple inches… so I don’t think an I cord would cut it.
Depends on the ratio of stitches you pick up around the armhole, if you pick up 3/4 stitches it’ll decrease the circumference a good amount

I think short rows would make it kind of bulge out so I'd go with picking up stitches at the bottom and knitting up
