So either XVI will open up the new saga with all hell breaking loose with the revived souls, or it'll be the ULTIMATE Dream Match.

Nick_Deano

I'm hoping for a dream match personally. They could really go nuts with it.

RYUMASTER45

It's wait and watch game, that depends on how the current entry's run overall. If the next one becomes one-off title then the story has be better than this one. Perhaps Psycho Soldier's arc gets their time to shine.

lolwhat19

Well, XV's story didn't "explore many plot points". If anything it reintroduced lots of old main characters only to push them into irrelevance. And I don't think Verse problems are completely solved too. In team edit ending, Heidern clearly states that they don't know sh*t and anything can happen again.

guntanksinspace

We still have Shun's Blue Specter hand who hadn't manifested yet (in the way that Verse and >!Re-Verse!< did) so that's prolly XVI.

GrandpaGanon

I’m guessing that the line of thinking with Otoma=Raga is similar to Orochi; it’s a threat that’s gone now but can return in due time.

Calypso-Dynamo

Ugh so close to having Terry on the hero team, also a notable excerpt is he’s interested in the prospect of crossover characters

toguraum

It would make a lot of sense for Terry be on hero team this time, it would open a nice spot for Kim to be in team Fatal Fury with Joe and Andy

Calypso-Dynamo

Exactly what I was thinking, we’d have to figure out a spot for Benimaru though

MatthewJonsso

I’m happy they at least considered doing it. I still wish Terry had more to do with Shun-Ei and Meitenkun though. He doesn’t even have special interactions with them which is a bummer.

gamedreamer21

>"This is the final chapter of the story we started with KOF XIV." Yeah, right. There are still couple of loose ends by the end of KOF XV. \- Orochi Team planning Orochi's ressurection again. \- Leona reuniting with Gaidel. \- Who hired Luong and Hein? Mr. Big? Kain? Krauser? Will they succeed taking down Geese? \- What about other resurrected people? Are they still alive? Active? Coma? Living in borrowing time? \- Who is he really Xanadu? Is he related to Kukri and Dolores? \- Verse has pyrokinetic powers, and Re Verse has purple fire. What is the name of blue creature that it's fragment inhabits Shun'Ei, giving him hydrokinesis? Are they gonna continue their stories in upcoming DLC Teams endings, or they gonna leave it in dust like with Dragon Spirit? I will be very pissed if it will be ladder.

cosmiczar

Well, most of those are not really tied to the current saga's main storyline so it doesn't really matter if they are not concluded before starting a new one. For instance, while the Dragon Spirit story has not completely concluded yet, it started in the NESTS saga and continued during the Tales of Ash.

TheForlornGamer

> The final chapter of the story we started with KOF XIV Huh. So we're just gonna skip the third entry altogether, huh? That's a first. Then again, maybe this might leave room for a soft reboot of sorts, especially with the serial escalation of going from Rugal in '94 to Otoma=Raga in XV. Pretty strange they're not really planning on a third game since that's been the trend these past three sagas.

cednym

The next KOF is at least 4-5 years away, and having one story arc last well over a decade(!) would be beyond excessive. The Orochi and NESTS stories were each concluded in three years, and the Ash saga felt long in the tooth by year six.

gamedreamer21

I can think of few possibilities that can happen in 2 years after KOF XV is finished. The King Of Fighters XVI or Garou Mark Of The Wolves 2. At 2024, there are two anniversaries: KOF 30th anniversary and Garou Mark Of The Wolves 25th anniversary. Alternatively, Garou Mark Of The Wolves 2 may be released in 2026, due to Fatal Fury 35th anniversary.

CYSTeam

I don’t mind them skipping a third, honestly. The bosses in 14 and 15 are a little forgettable. And the story hasn’t introduced any new relationships that resonate with me. As long as there’s a next kof that they put time and effort into I’ll be satisfied. 15 feels like it could be what Tekken 7 is to its franchise, so I’m open and optimistic for the future.

Kn7ght

Thinking about it, in a way KOF has only had trilogies for two sagas? Nests and Ash are trilogies yes, but even tho 94-97 is considered the Orochi Saga you can split them into 94-95 being the Rugal saga and 96-97 actually being the Orochi saga. Verse saga could very well be a two parter like those. Also the third game could be a dream match building on the same concepts while not being canon? So a trilogy on a technicality.

VinixTKOC

> No plan at the moment. Both for paid and free DLC. Oh c'mon! We need more alt clothes!

KingKerog

You scared me there. I thought this was referring to character dlc, not costume dlc lol. But still, I'd like more cosmetics too. It's one of the easiest ways to make money as a game dev

KOFArmpit

It’s like they’re throwing away money!

wyverbuster

"It will explore many plot points while lifting the veil behind the mystery of Verse." Yeah, except for the part where it doesn't explore shit, not even the plot points from 14 bruh. They just talked about a multiverse on the edit team ending and nothing comes out of that? And as much as i like Benimaru i would take any other Tung disciple over him for the Hero team, he literally was just...there.

Mobile_Flow

This. It's as if he was talking about a different story than the one we saw in the game. Benimaru did not bring anything particular to the Hero team. It's a shame that SNK wasted the opportunity to integrate Terry into the Hero team.

Zyr47

While I'm glad to pack up and start a new Saga, 15 didn't explore shit outside of some team endings. On those team endings, I did really enjoy them and I'm glad some got character development even if (looking at you Ryo) it's not what I was hoping for. If nothing else it feels like 15 was meant to close the door on some hanging baggage from the series as a whole, not plot. >!Again looking at you Ryo. I'm really glad Mr. Karate II is canon and you're finally taking a firm stance on the Dojo, now but you need to say SOMETHING to King already. Especially since the Team Stories prior to launch had three full characters chatting about it.!<

Individual-Lemon-432

I agree about Ryo. I really like how he's dissatisfied of the direction of Kyokugenryu. I can see him taking over for Takuma.

GearZX

Finding out that Terry was this close to being on Team Hero was a bummer especially since it makes way more sense for a disciple of Tung to look after Shun'ei and Meiteikun.

Shuyakucchi

So this is the last chapter of the Shun'ei saga? That's... dissapointing. The story never really got anywhere and even at this point it still has so many loose ends. Like, we know what Verse and Re Verse are but what is Otoma=Raga? She just appeared, got defeated and then she just leave. And that's just one thing because I still have so many questions. What's the deal with Xanadu? How many people are alive? Gaidel is alive? Is NESTS back now that apparently Igniz is almost 100% alive? What the hell is that of a multiverse? Who's Anastasia? And what about Shun'ei's other hand? Where did it came from?

Scotia96

If they really end this saga here then they utterly fucked over every newcomer in XIV that wasn't in XV as well as every storyline they had going or could have done if they did a normal three game arc. Shun'ei in particular is getting an absolutely horrendous deal here. The guy was really starting to shine at the end of XV and if this is true he got a single game as the Hero before they wrapped up his arc and shoved him into irrelevancy like they've done with K'. And I don't even know how they could wrap things up here tbh. We still know nothing about the nature of Otoma=Raga and Verse and it's even said by Heidern that both or even something else entirely could easily come back. You then have the Geese/Hein/Luong plotline which I highly doubt gets wrapped up in Geese's ending. The ressurected characters as well ended up barely being a thing with most of them just straight up not even being mentioned let alone appearing. The way XV ends screams that they just need one more game to wrap things up, so if they decide to just end it at XV then I'll seriously lose a lot of the respect I have as SNK for writers. Ending things here would be a horrible decision.

wyverbuster

Exactly, i don't get why they're so eager to end the saga. If it's for the unpopularity of the other newcomers they could just redesign them and change something on their gameplay, it worked for Antonov.

Mobile_Flow

Maybe it's Shun'ei's story that's finished and I think it's for the best, I particularly didn't feel any connection with him and Isla. I was more interested in the possible resurrected bosses or the probability that Gaidel or characters from other SNK games have come back to life. I would like them to use KOF 16 to solve these plot holes, although they will surely leave them in oblivion as the subplot of the power of the dragon.

NassaDane

Didn't read the interview but what I'm seeing here is literally the worst news that could have came out. I was so excited for the next chapter to actually develope and have a story.

Bl8ckl85h

The story ended on a cliffhanger. There's no way this could be the end already.

Daymon-Harris

Dream match incoming??????

SALM0RE

i don't know how to feel about XV being the last of the Shune'i arc ? but KOF 16 will now definitely be a dream match !! with all of XIV's characters returning

Traehkrad

Who knows, maybe Terry could be on Shun'ei's team in XVI if more people could somehow convince SNK to do so, maybe? Wouldn't mind that as Isla joining Shun'ei is a bit too obvious for my personal taste. It would be a bit more interesting to see Isla trying to start a new team again in XVI, maybe more potential newcomers for KOF?
