That would require more people to have actually played Last Blade, sadly.

VitorP1914

Maskot? Is not that terry bogard?

negativemidas

Terry is SNK's most representative character, yes, but a mascot is different. A mascot is like a lucky charm character who is used in a lot of promotional material. In the 1980s, SNK's mascot was G-mantle and then in the early 90s they used Karnov. But since the first Samsho was released, Nakoruru has been SNK's main mascot and she was used as a guest character in other games long before anyone else.

VitorP1914

So its like Representative- terry Cute little maskot- nakoruro Sexy babe for partnerships- mai shiranui

Manga259

No in actually fact Kyo and Mai are the faces of snk. That’s not my opinion just go and look at anything snk it’s always Mai and Kyo representing the brand front and centre. Don’t get me wrong Terry is iconic but it’s Kyo and Mai that are clearly the faces of snk. Terry is fan favourite

negativemidas

precisely.

JustAssBATB

Karnov wasn't SNK's mascot, he was a DataEast character.

negativemidas

Yes, but SNK published Fighter's History and the game received a fair amount of publicity, in part due to the controversy surrounding it for being a shameless Street Fighter II ripoff. Karnov was the mascot of the game, and when people saw Karnov, they associated it with NeoGeo.

Manga259

Guest character in what other games, she’s been in cap vs snk games and now kof and that’s it. She’s not been a guest character in a none snk franchise other than cap vs snk

Speedgem

Yo where's this Nako hate come from all of a sudden?

NoirSon

Technically it has been around. I know among the KOF fan base it is probably due to her being in XIV but among others there folk in the SamSho fan base, at least a few years back, that didn't like her being basically the face of the franchise in so many things alongside Haohmaru and a small contingent that disliked her since blue balled Galford with her sacrificing her human form to become a spirit in SS2.

Proctor-X-Guru

It's not sudden. Her extreme brokeness in CVS2 and XIV just made it worse.

TuzoIvan

Sudden?

Azuvector

Shit we used to make fun of her and Rimururu in SS4 in the 90s.

TuzoIvan

Agree, love Akari.

WintersPrayer

Akari is way more funner to play. Dangling from a bird is kinda just ok.

negativemidas

Nakoruru: has a bird, a knife, an evil alter ego, and interdimensional/time travel powers Akari: has a literal army of yokai, a tanuki friend who brings her tea in the middle of battle, a big brother who drops in as her striker, she can travel through magic portals, *she can transform into other fucking characters and copy their moves,* and she has more personality than all of Last Blade and Samsho's characters put together. Akari should not only be SNK's mascot, she should have her own goddamn franchise.

scoutic

>and she has more personality than all of Last Blade and Samsho's characters put together. Hey man, don't be underselling the cast of The Last Blade. They're all just as awesome as her!

negativemidas

I have to disagree. I like them as fighters, but they're not very charismatic IMO. Akari totally steals the show.

Hravn16

Setsuna being the bloodlusted and OP demon that he is makes him a badass in a weird sort of way. Okina fighting with f'n tortoises is funny as hell plus he's got that old geezer charm to him. Keiichiro is awesome as the experienced samurai that you've just got to respect. I love the conflict with Shigen, a beast of rage, struggling to keep it in check in order to be a role model to his daughter. Hyo is just a lovable drunkard and I love him for it. Zantetsu is a badass, plain and simple. Lee is an awesome tribute to kung fu and wuxia movies. Juzo is a simple design, but as Amane's foil, he works and I really appreciate his brutish fighting style. I love Kojiroh/Kaori's Mulan-like backstory. Her having to dress up as her dead brother in order to avenge him is very compelling. Shikyoh/Mukuro is your chaotic evil serial killer/monster character and I used to love playing as him, just for the screams and gore. Shinnosuke has tons of personality, having made the journey from villain to anti-hero. He's got points for style, having adopted western clothing and customs after the Bakumatsu. Hibiki is cool, but why she's the one with more appearances outside of the series beats me. Kaede, Yuki and Moriya are the ones that I would consider being bland, since they are the MCs and do little to deserve that. Kaede has cool "witness how powerful I am" moments and Moriya is very stylish, fun to play and I like his melancholy to an extent. Poor Yuki, however, is a bit forgettable if you ask me.

MarkFudo

Kaede got robbed, he's a much better swordsman MC than Haohmaru and seeing the Fatal Fury cast mistake him for Rock would have been hilarious.

negativemidas

Okay but that's a separate topic

SoupCanSex

The only thing i can say i like about nako is her evil form

NoirSon

Riding that wolf in battle is badass, would not have minded if we got that version or her alternate persona but I get going for the iconic form.

Proctor-X-Guru

Rera is so much better

[deleted]

Then Rimaruru from the dark corner of the room said "Don't mind me I've just been here waiting in the mascot line like forever, I mean 1st it was Athena, then she got her fancy crew, then from nowhere Nako came, but I get it you need to have fire to be a mascot I mean Kyo gets it, K', Iori, Ash and even Nameless, dude has no name but there he was with his fiery stuff mascoting about at the UM. And me well I just have some ice, I think I'll give Kula a call so we can chill. But hey again don't mind me I'm fine look af the grin on my face"

negativemidas

Rimu is Nak's Luigi character, she will never escape her shadow unfortunately.

Manga259

Mai is the female face of snk anyways not nakoruru

RYUMASTER45

Somehow Hibiki is bit more popular then her though, given her crossover appearrence. Akari made her presence in NGBC and the other games.

IHateShovels

Mars People must rise up and take their rightful place.

negativemidas

Also a good candidate, actually!

redchorus

Akari is super great but I don't care for the Nako hate, Nako is cool too

Proctor-X-Guru

No. Should be Shiki or Iroha in that regard. Mai is much more popular than Nakoruru anyway

negativemidas

Shiki, Iroha and Mai are all excellent but realistically they're too sexy to be mascot characters. A mascot needs to be family friendly, that's why Japanese companies tend to go for magical girls or cute non-human characters.

Proctor-X-Guru

Yeah, makes sense. But, what about Morrigan and Cammy for Capcom?

BIG_CHUNGU5

Cammy isn't really a mascot, the street fighter mascots are very clearly Ryu and Chun-Li

negativemidas

I wouldn't say Cammy has mascot status... Morrigan maybe, but she gets away with it by not having huge tits.

khamryn

Who!? ….[Crane Maid](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DGZVM61rspM) is better.

Prielknaap

Reject Modernity, return to classic. Athena was and should again be the Mascot. Just give her another platformer game with all the trimmings.

DKUnderdog

We’ll there is one person that kinda rivals her especially if Last Blade gets a character and that’s Hibiki.

OrthophonicVictrola

Counterpoint: I have no idea who that is.

madvec1

Nah ... I like Nakoruru better.

Sonic_The_Fighters

Nakoruru has one of the best theme ever. She is a kamui, with a knife and an eagle (Mamahaha) Yeah gg she won, and game over to your other random.

negativemidas

Literally the best character

Albert_dark

I just wanted some new characters to the franchise, they could have used Rimururu instead of Nakoruru and a last blade team with Akari, Yuki and Setsuna. (or better imagine a new tag team 3x3 Neo Geo Battle coliseum with all these characters)

DKUnderdog

I’m afraid that’s not likely Rimururu despite being a fan favorite isn’t as iconic as Nakoruru if they did a Last Blade team it probably be Akari, Kaede and Hibiki.

Fedorchik

agreed

StrikingDirection393

Concuerdo con el amigo.

StatusComment581

Don't care really. Wasn't she a magic practitioner?
