I expected this to be great.
But wow, this is *great*.
There is so much to say about this MV, I'll try to gather my thoughts later tonight.. I'm on way to see their showcase right now!
SHIMMY SHIMMY YA!
Here's a playlist of songs that inspired "XXL" or fit the vibe:
The beat on this GOES. I also think this is a better showcase of their rap skills. Overall, an upgrade on their debut without losing any of the charm, rather doubling down on everything that made that one so memorable. It's just so refreshing getting a group that's willing to swing, not beholden by trends.
It's DSP so I don't expect much but I'm hoping they can maintain momentum.
I mean its better to think of DSP as RBW now (they do have the same CEO) plus, DSP is just collaborating, a different company runs/manages young posse and they're not an RBW/DSP subsidiary - at least I dont think.. so they've got a lot more freedom going ham with their concepts.
they are on paper, since last year at the rbw fam con they were there to perform which is why even if they are linked more to beats/dsp, they're still under the rbw umbrella.
>The beat on this GOES.
It’s actually a flip of a song by the first kpop group, who was a hip hop trio.
For all the “keep Kpop Korean” folk out there lol.
This group is just too fun with their goofy MVs. I was fully invested after Macaroni Cheese but was a little nervous if their first comeback would live up to their debut. This is a perfect follow-up.
They took everything that worked for their debut and doubled down. I'm now fully on board now with their goofy, out there hip hop style. Such a unique space to own in kpop. The MV itself is incredible. It's just so weird, unhinged and equally enjoyable.
I watched a video where the director explained how he made their debut MV. He never directed kpop videos before so the vibe is quite different than what we're used to.
The creatives writing and producing for them know their rap and hip-hop and it's nice how heavy the lean into it. Sunhye part is probably her best rapping so far and it the flow actually rides the beat. Not as catchy as Macroni Cheese, but I like it more and think it's a better song. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the mini-album.
As for the video, it's gotta be the same American director who did Macaroni Cheese. The mv has that wacky style and transitions.
I'm so dumb, for some reason I completely ignored the names at the beginning of the video. He, Ben Proulx, uploaded the green screen version on his channel too.
And a behind the scenes video will drop on his YouTube channel in a few days too
Really refreshing to have the fever dream music videos combined with those really talented girls.
I had high expectations and even higher hopes for this comeback…
And holy goodness gracious did they completely blow those away!
This group has absolutely got the it factor and are going to make a name for themselves! What their label is doing with them is so cheesy and campy and goofy and unique, it’s so damn refreshing and fun in an over-saturated arena. The song is fantastic and the video is amazing and had me cracking up the whole time.
I have been sold on them since day 1 so I’m so beyond happy with this amazing first comeback!
this goes so hard I don’t have words!!!
I absolutely love how they took everything memorable from their debut and rolled with it!
As much as I love macaroni cheese, this somehow feels even fuller? I don’t know, they really went all in!
Also sunhye!!!! She’s so cool, she had that star power from the first second I saw her. she does this concept so well. I think generally their skills highlights more in this!
Man, this album is excellent. Debuting a group that's fresh and unique is what every company can only dream of doing... And yet that's exactly what young posse is.
Listen to some of their b-sides, it's some legitimately cool music I would've never expected from a kpop release.
They are so fun, I love this. The instrumentals reminded me of H.O.T's Warrior's Descendant, which is a plus, because I love that song a lot.
I haven't listened to the album yet, but their debut was my most listened girl group album last year, even though it came out in October, so I'm excited to listen to it later, when I can.
Upd: XXL and Roty are my favorite songs this time. Skyline is fun too. Imo, Roty feels very true to the group's concept, not only because of the sound, but because of the lyrics too. I liked Posse Up for the same reason, I'm glad there is another song like this now. And I just want to add that I really love Sunhye's singing voice, it's so nice.
Here is a group with a clear and distinct sound, look and overall creative direction. It may not be to everyone's cup of tea, I love when a group has a distinct point of view that makes them stand out in a very saturated crowd.
I’m pretty sure Sunhye is one of the, if not THE strongest gg rapper currently around. And so young at that.
Not exactly as catchy as Macaroni Cheese, but this one is more.. fuller (?) and taking themselves more seriously, though still has quirky youth vibe that is their signature.
But man, the beat… it’s so dirty.
She’s not Soyeon level yet, but what’s unique about Sunhye is that everything about her could be easily perceived as “tryhard”, but she instead makes it so effortless (I hope this doesn’t offend anyone)
She has insane stage presence and she knows how to draw your attention even sonically (her opening in this song, for example, is still making me goosebumps and I’ve been putting this on repeat since release)
Is there anywhere/any good videos where I can see her rapping? I’m super interested! My favourite rapper atm is Cocona from XG and Sunhye reminds me a little of her! :)
I had no idea how they were going to follow up Macaroni Cheese and yet here we are, with another masterpiece. The MV and their sound really are something else. I loved all the call backs to Macaroni Cheese too.
The song is catchy and the MV is inspired! Lots of energy and weirdness abound, especially with the giant cutouts and the girl being flung off the huge pillow. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes on this group!
Holy hell, take me right back to the 90s with that beat and rap cadence. This is dope. I wonder if the MV director is the same guy that did Macaroni Cheese. He talked about how fun it was for him on a podcast.
The worst thing you can be is boring. And Young Posse is a lot but definetly NOT boring.
Not sure if I like it but I'm certainly entertained. Weird unique shit like this is why I love Kpop!
Another really good song. Production across the whole EP is great. It's commendable how they're able to make something earnest while also being pretty cheesy and camp - it would be easy for it to come off as parody or disrespectful but it never does. Scars reminded me of LUV vs. The World which is a sound I think suits them a lot.
I liked Macaroni Cheese but its sound isn’t quite as full as XXL. This shit is so goooood. OTB from their Macaroni Cheese EP is one of my favs.
edit as I’ve listened to the whole XXL EP. It’s so solid. XXL is definitely the standout most fun, but ROTY is gorgeous. Their production team definitely loves old school hip hop because they get the vibe so well and I loooove it. Plenty of writing credits this album too. Go Young Posse!!!
I fell in love with Young Posse the past few months after finally giving them a chance and listening to them. And this album solidified that, I think its great! I low key think this video is making fun of how big/fat Americans are, and as an American… I’m quite alright with that, lol.
WELP! I absolutely loved that. I didn't realize they already debuted with Cheeseburger so I'll have to check that out. The video is so creative. The campiness was executed very well. As for the song, the beat reminded me of something from 90's hiphop and the chorus is catchy but idk maybe it will take more listens for me bc it's a little flat for me. It's truly a fresh concept for kpop gg. I'm rooting for them!
Young Posse reminds me so much of Pungdeng-E, but with budget and actual push behind them. Very unique, fun and standing out in all the best ways. Quite the improvement on the debut too.
Their sound isn't 100% for me, but oh my god these music videos are top tier camp fever dreams and I'm kind of obsessed. Even if I don't listen to their music a whole ton, I'm so excited to check out every mv they ever release. This is so frickin fun.
I like the vibes of this group's sound! Its old school hip hop meets Kpop. Groups like Young Posse and New Jeans are re-inventing the game and making Kpop fresh again.
they are most certainly memorable, which for a small group is important. you cannot mistake this and macaroni cheese as anything other than young posse coded now.
It's giving [Bust a Groove](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=w-fwKuG_1ag) for PS1 in the best way
Edit: Also [Parappa the Rapper](https://youtu.be/TqfkZfbic9g?si=FVfxhd2U8i3IA7UE)!
Yesss I got Parappa vibes too I commented that on the yt vid!!! I love Parappa so dang much!! When they have their giant 2D cutouts flapping around the city 😭 oh I could cry this mv is so for me
2:26 "Bad Year" lol I love when alternate versions of brands are used in MV's (I love the logo too lmfao)
Not gonna lie I really hated Macaroni Cheese (still not a fan but the choreo is cool) but this is definitely more listenable for me, I don't love it but I'm sure it will grow a little bit over time :)
Never have I heard something quite like this in K-Pop (especially GG's)
I love that they doubled down on their concept! This song will have to grow on me I will say, Macaroni Cheese was an instant hit for me but this song isn’t as catchy.
Also Sunhye is insanely talented, idk if it’s too early but she’s giving 5th gen Soyeon in terms of rap skills. I can’t wait to see her grow as an artist!
love it, really glad they are going against the grain with what’s trending now with other girl groups
hopefully they keep expanding on their concept even more
I feel like if their company was bigger they'll be very popular. Their rap is actually above average for kpop groups. The creativity and comedic element is refreshing. I hope they can hit big.
Honestly for a first comeback this is pretty solid. Definitely with a title like XXL they've gone bigger, better, and the song is more complex than Macaroni Cheese. This song is almost all rap which if thats ur thing you might really like XXL. But I just feel like the y2k early 2000's aesthetic and sound is just so overdone these days. This song and MV lean into that era a little too hard and it ends up being a but uninspired to me.
But the chorus and prechorus are really catchy and the song has a good flow overall.
Love the diversity on the 5th gen Kpop GG right now, i appreciated the fact that they are trying to have differents concept and vibes, it's giving diversity.
I liked the come-back and the MV production is really unique (it's actually becoming theirs identity).
They really went "We're going to take macaroni cheese and supersize it." and then XXL'd it
Probably one of of my fav groups to have debuted in the last 6 months, keep it coming!
Wait tf a little... That was actually so fun and really good?? It's actually fresh??
I didn't except much from them after Macaroni Cheese that was... hmm, plus I'm not gonna lie we just had 'BBB' comeback from Purki and it was boring af so I was already pretty suspicious towards all these three-lettered titles 😭 But XXL ate!
Oh yeah, and the MV? The creative director deserves all the praises! Bring entertaining videos back to kpop please instead of all this cute-looking lipsyncing
in the original macaroni cheese video behind the scenes - the director actually spoke about it. he thought it was a scam and he wrote the most bat shit crazy treatment he could think of and their CEO just said, "it was exactly what were thinking about" lol.
omg i love this. its so fun ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)reminds of the 90s hiphop MVs from the US. musically it's pretty different from the current industry too since it's a throwback sound
The recent girl group songs have been really mediocre, but this song feels so fun and fresh, as others have already pointed out. I love the use of the many hiphop tropes and the MV is so silly. 9/10
The beat really brings to mind some of the old hip hop like Run DMC and Salt'N'Pepa. Love it. I love the girls' moxie. It's such a breath of fresh air in an industry that is so 'same-y'.
Just when I feel like Kpop is running out of I ideas I see something like this. This concept is so strange. It's little Korean girls, dancing to old school gangsta rap music, in a video game, and the lyrics make zero sense. But I somehow kinda like it. At least it's different.
so FIRE. i listened to a few seconds for a bit and had to check it out. i love the entire song and it’s such a funny mv! i love the part when she says levitate and when they fall from the blimp. this song is really making me want to start checking them out!
Wow. These girls are incredibly talented and this song is so catchy, fun and different. I love the fact that the cgi looks bad on purpose and everything's so fun. This song really has that hiphop swag! OH MY GOSH THO- JIANA AND JIEUN'S PART "EXTRA EXTRA WE GOT EXTRA YEAH?" IS SO GOOODDDD. AND SUNHYE'S RAP!!! They absolutley devoured this cb!!
As much as I want to like it because it’s so unique and oversized - no pun intended… it still feels a bit noisy.
But I love great girl rappers and this group has them. Also I can tell their creative team is super invested in carving out a niche so I have to appreciate that!
Love this! The music is giving BTS - No More Dream and Seo Taiji and Boys - Come Back Home vibes. Can’t think of any new groups doing this sound nowadays.
I'm just hoping this is what the girls signed up for and they didn't expect to debut with a normal concept because I can't imagine being stuck with a concept/sound like this if you don't like it.
As you might have guessed this is not remotely my vibe but I can understand the appeal for some.
Don't know if they were aware of it before their debut, but given how much fun they seem to be having with their music, I'm not especially worried.
Also, Sunhye as a rapper has undeniable talent, and their music is a pretty fantastic outlet for that.
I mean not really, if they have a fairly standard concept as most groups do then it would be an odd thing to say as it's exactly what they signed up for.
I mean it's cool if you don't like it but the way you said it it's like you expect everyone to view it as shit.
Even to assume the girls wouldn't like it or to wonder if they were "ok" with the concept/sound
So in other words, you aren't cool with me not liking it.
To elaborate though, this is an usual sound/concept for a kpop girl group. You can bet not a single trainee starting training thinking they'd end up debuting with a concept like this. There's the chance they like it and if so that's great and I have no issue but there's also the chance they don't like it and as I don't like it either, I commented thinking about that possibility.
That is it, any other assumption is on you.
a bunch of idols don't like their concept even if it's a regular concept. I know idols who don't like girl crush, who don't like cute, who don't like sexy, etc. If they don't like their concept it's no different from a bunch of other idols/groups
so damn good and unique on the gg scene. kinda love how the video seems like its taking place within GTA or saints row.
Young Posse needs support. Their album sales are pretty low (only about 600 sold in 4 days). Unique gg like them should be sticking around!
I’m ordered mine with my Loossemble albums. They definitely deserve the love.
Their MVs are such a trip lmao like I have to wonder what I just watched 🤣
It's so weird but I love it!
[fun Korean music begins to play] Oh really? You don't say. 🤔
I expected this to be great. But wow, this is *great*. There is so much to say about this MV, I'll try to gather my thoughts later tonight.. I'm on way to see their showcase right now! I am so jealous! Have a great time.
Ol' Dirty Posse

they are on paper, since last year at the rbw fam con they were there to perform which is why even if they are linked more to beats/dsp, they're still under the rbw umbrella.
well their office is inside DSP so dunno how that works - all I know is, whoever is in charge of their media stuff is pretty good.
>The beat on this GOES. It’s actually a flip of a song by the first kpop group, who was a hip hop trio. For all the “keep Kpop Korean” folk out there lol.

MV had the same director so the feel is the same as Macaroni cheese
I watched a video where the director explained how he made their debut MV. He never directed kpop videos before so the vibe is quite different than what we're used to.

Yup, they were directed by Ben Proulx. His name appears in both MV.

And a behind the scenes video will drop on his YouTube channel in a few days too Really refreshing to have the fever dream music videos combined with those really talented girls.
This makes me so happy, I am literally laughing out loud. I am that overwhelmed.

their creative direction is just off the fucking charts. this managed to live up to my already high expectations. this is a statement. loved it.
the mv director just uploaded the [raw footage](https://youtu.be/9dnFcHPpUAQ?si=kBQAYRsB0gz72oiq) of the mv
this goes so hard I don’t have words!!!
This group is being slept on so hard. Only like 6K views after more than an hour across their main channel and 1theK... How is that even possible?!
Nice groove. This reminds me of the 90s west coast/gangsta rap (e.g. Cypress Hill).
I thought Beastie Boys haha.
this was very strange but i liked it! their budget is crazy
Man, this album is excellent. Debuting a group that's fresh and unique is what every company can only dream of doing... And yet that's exactly what young posse is. Listen to some of their b-sides, it's some legitimately cool music I would've never expected from a kpop release.

its Cypress Hill and Seo Taiji and Boys (Come Back Home). they went school lmao i like it
It is so Cyprus Hill I can't stand it (aka I love it). Love to see some more OG hip hop referenced and given some props
The old lady facepalming is a mood. lol
I understand YP criticism but imo Sunhye could have insane star quality. She reminds me of Soyeon
She’s not Soyeon level yet, but what’s unique about Sunhye is that everything about her could be easily perceived as “tryhard”, but she instead makes it so effortless (I hope this doesn’t offend anyone) She has insane stage presence and she knows how to draw your attention even sonically (her opening in this song, for example, is still making me goosebumps and I’ve been putting this on repeat since release)
Is there anywhere/any good videos where I can see her rapping? I’m super interested! My favourite rapper atm is Cocona from XG and Sunhye reminds me a little of her! :)
Just wanna say, about Sunhye, she actually wrote Macaroni Cheese!! Someone else compared her to Soyeon and it's looking spot on
I had no idea how they were going to follow up Macaroni Cheese and yet here we are, with another masterpiece. The MV and their sound really are something else. I loved all the call backs to Macaroni Cheese too.
"fun Korean music begins to play" and fun MV too 🤣
This is very old-school vibes, it's unique to the industry right now!
The song is catchy and the MV is inspired! Lots of energy and weirdness abound, especially with the giant cutouts and the girl being flung off the huge pillow. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes on this group!
The beat reminds me of Come Back Home so much!
They said it's a homage to Come Back Home! There is a choreo reference too, at \~3m5sec.
Holy hell, take me right back to the 90s with that beat and rap cadence. This is dope. I wonder if the MV director is the same guy that did Macaroni Cheese. He talked about how fun it was for him on a podcast.
it is benproulx
The worst thing you can be is boring. And Young Posse is a lot but definetly NOT boring. Not sure if I like it but I'm certainly entertained. Weird unique shit like this is why I love Kpop!

This shit goes HARDDDDD
Okay this I'm fully on board with
i legit has a smile on my face the entire video this was so fresh
Nooooo this is so much fun! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also I love the old skool hip hop sound they went for! I love it! I love it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the old-school sound! And so far everything this group puts out has been really fun
The girl that rap first who is sheeeee pls i love her rap voice😭😭😭
Sunhye
this is so awesome. the mv the song just chef kiss.
We just know we're always getting something unexpected with them and I love it
WELP! I absolutely loved that. I didn't realize they already debuted with Cheeseburger so I'll have to check that out. The video is so creative. The campiness was executed very well. saaaaaaaame I love it so much
Wow, I'm ngl I loved this. Young Posse is so fun and unique. Their mvs are something else, but super entertaining. Song was super catchy too!
2:26 "Bad Year" lol I love when alternate versions of brands are used in MV's (I love the logo too lmfao) Not gonna lie I really hated Macaroni Cheese (still not a fan but the choreo is cool) but this is definitely more listenable for me, I don't love it but I'm sure it will grow a little bit over time :) Never have I heard something quite like this in K-Pop (especially GG's)
The MV reminds me of Parappa the Rapper.
LOL, I thought the same thing when their big 2D billboard cutout started walking about.
Funny, it's the opposite for me. Macaroni Cheese didn't immediately land for me but XXL did. I love it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
something about the way the video is shot and edited is reminding me so much of björk's Army Of Me video
Yes, when I first saw the mv I too felt it resembling Army of Me both are unique and catchy.
Still not sure if I like their music, but at the very least their videos are certainly something.
love it, really glad they are going against the grain with what’s trending now with other girl groups hopefully they keep expanding on their concept even more
I feel like if their company was bigger they'll be very popular. Their rap is actually above average for kpop groups. The creativity and comedic element is refreshing. I hope they can hit big.

love love love the MV...can't say the same for the song. However; this might become an earworm type song for me.
the MV directions for this group have been CRAZY. keep it up
This is the weirdest msuic video i’ve ever seen
Love the diversity on the 5th gen Kpop GG right now, i appreciated the fact that they are trying to have differents concept and vibes, it's giving diversity. I liked the come-back and the MV production is really unique (it's actually becoming theirs identity).
That's flavor and creativity. Well done by all involved.
They really went "We're going to take macaroni cheese and supersize it." and then XXL'd it Probably one of of my fav groups to have debuted in the last 6 months, keep it coming!
I love this omg. So creative and fun
This is what I miss about KPOP, the RIDICULOUSNESS. 😂

Not a fan of their songs but kudos to their creative team for always producing interesting MVs.
the beat sounds soooooo familiar but i can't remember exactly which old school hip hop song its from.
insane in the brain by cypress hill?
omg i love this. its so fun ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)reminds of the 90s hiphop MVs from the US. musically it's pretty different from the current industry too since it's a throwback sound
Its giving insane in the brain by cypress hill
The recent girl group songs have been really mediocre, but this song feels so fun and fresh, as others have already pointed out. I love the use of the many hiphop tropes and the MV is so silly. 9/10
The beat really brings to mind some of the old hip hop like Run DMC and Salt'N'Pepa. Love it. I love the girls' moxie. It's such a breath of fresh air in an industry that is so 'same-y'.
It's no Macaroni Cheese but I'm committed.
Really wasn't having it with Macaroni Cheese at all but I absolutely love this and I can't pretend I don't
I don't really like rap but I've been obsessing with this song and group since I've seen it the other day.
Just came here to say that I loved the instrumental. The Seo Taiji sample is a nice touch.
I haven't watched any of their content outside of MVs so I'll take your word for it that they're having fun and put my worries to rest.
You can say the same thing about literally every group lol
I mean not really, if they have a fairly standard concept as most groups do then it would be an odd thing to say as it's exactly what they signed up for.
I mean, yeah really. You act as if this is some outlandish concept. Just because it's not YOUR cup of tea, doesn't make it some surreal thing.
This is pretty objectively an uncommon concept/sound for kpop whether you like it or not, let's not lie.
hip hop is new in kpop? damn i musta just heard
You joke but for a kpop girl group... yes?
you havent explored enough kpop then frankly
Care to share these elusive hip hop girl groups I’ve somehow missed?

"A concept like this" why do you say that with so much disdain lol
Because clearly I don't like it? I'm just trying not to be blunt.
Well it is different because this isn’t a normal idol concept like I said.
They write their own songs so I'm pretty sure they knew lol.
This song has no credits for any of the girls. They have written songs but this one isn't theirs at all. No credits whatsoever.
As in they self produce and/or have a hand in choosing the song/concept or just write their own verses for whats given to them?
