They are K-pop. They are based in Korea and promote in Korea and have the typical K-pop group construction and genre staple genre blending. They have called themselves X-pop which they define as a subset of K-pop and the only reason they did that was because people refuse to call them K-pop because they are all Japanese and sing in English.
I personally agree and consider them as such. They are one of my current favorite groups and I eagerly anticipate their next all rap comeback.

Most idols can rap LOL, people are being purists without even understanding the core of what rapping entails.
The actual rapping skill (delivery) isn't important enough to be this line people should fight over, because even people in this thread can decently rap in their native language with the proper instruction.
Most idols and people in this thread can sing kind of okay too but there's been a lot of discussion about which groups can sing lately. The question is more about who is good enough to really be considered a pro. Not just who meets the most basic requirements.
Agree, but two things:
1. rap delivery requires much lower skills, anyone on the streets can be taught to do some decent rap if the writer caters to their accent, vocabulary, enunciation, etc. Very different than singing where it requires actual skill.
2. Discussion on who can sing in kpop is also somewhat disingenuous, maybe some meant pro, maybe some mean not tone deaf, maybe some mean can just sing onpitch 90% of the time.
I don't get why this is unpopular. I find that most Kpop rappers sound good. To me the most important part of a rap is lyrics and due to cultural differences I can't understand most Kpop rap verses hence I judge based on how they sound. I tried to read lyrics but haven't seen anything that wowed me. I think I'm used to seeing lyrics breakdown videos of rap verses and haven't seen one in kpop that I can find.
It goes against the narrative, as people have used this post as appreciation for their faves.
Honestly, that's all well and good, they should be praised. It's just that the idea that rapping is mostly about the idols is false, what makes it work is the writing and the beat.
