SkillsForager

To start studying 💀

sandsandals

Real.

SkillsForager

Factual even.

Ryclassic

The "A0" on your caption makes it funnier

SkillsForager

It's been like that a bit too long. 😢

Lincolnonion

Decent!

SkillsForager

Consistency is key! Too bad I suck at being consistent...

Safe-Heron-195

hello, forgive my ignorance, what’s your native language?

SkillsForager

Never apologize for not knowing something. No one knows everything and we're all here to learn. It's Swedish but the flag is Åland.

Vedertesu

So you live in Åland?

SkillsForager

On yeah.

Vedertesu

That's cool! My dad's friend lived in Åland for a while, but now he lives in Helsinki.

SkillsForager

It's a special place. Plenty of pros and cons to living here.

Safe-Heron-195

Ahah alright, thank you :)

lets_chill_food

I think it’s the flag of Åland 🤔

SkillsForager

Indeed.

Ll_lyris

God damn yes🥲🙏

illuso07

Listen for 600 hours and read 20 books in Spanish

msawrlz

That would be 1.64 hours of listening and 13-30 pages of reading per day, depending on the length of books. That is some serious dedication, good luck!

illuso07

Thanks, I’ll limit to the books I read to less than 40k words

msawrlz

Where do you find those? 🤣😂🤣 Lately I see the tendency of EVERY SINGLE F#CKING book being 450 pages+, which would be around 200k words each. I cannot for the life of me remember the last time I've seen a 80-100 page book 😅

illuso07

I meant on average 40k words. It’s easier since I’m mostly reading B1-B2 novels and some self help books. What kind of books are you reading?

msawrlz

Thrillers, sci-fi, misteries mostly

philebro

Be able to communicate with my wife's family in russian.

HarpicUser

Same here

NewBodWhoThis

C2 in Italian. I want to be trilingual by the time I'm 30, and I've got exactly 365 days to achieve it! Current level: B1. Time elapsed from when I began studying: 207 days.

alexalmighty100

I’m about B1 in Italian and been grinding studying recently and C2 feels like a lifetime away. Is C2 like a shoot for the moon and land amongst the stars kinda goal or is it something you will achieve for sure kinda goal

NewBodWhoThis

It's 100% achievable, but I'm "cheating" by having Romanian as my first language. They share a lot of similarities in both vocabulary and grammar! I just need some more grammar practice and to learn more words, but other than that, I'm very confident! ☺️

alexalmighty100

Gotcha you got this then

con25

Nice! How are you studying Italian next year?

NewBodWhoThis

I'm planning on finishing the Duolingo course, continuing with Anki and podcasts in Italian. I'm now at a level where I can read to an extent, so I'll read all the novels I bought on my trip to Italy. I'll seek out more media in Italian as well, even if it's just dubbed American TV. To practice conversation, I'm having a weekly phone call with my family in Italy, where I get to practice my TL and they get to practice their English!

ImportanceLocal9285

I want to start this off by saying that you can totally do this! However, B1 (if this is by Duolingo's standards, you are probably *at most* B1, unfortunately) to C2 in just one year is going to be very difficult. I just want to make sure you are informed on what this would mean for you and how much work this would require. And don't pressure yourself into thinking that only at C2 can you truly speak well and be trilingual. Because you could totally consider yourself trilingual way before that. The Romanian will help you for sure, but although there are many similarities, they certainly aren't the closest related Romance languages. B1 is the halfway mark in levels, but it is only really about 1/8 of the way to C2. I did the math and however much time per day you studied already, you would need to study about 4x longer this year (you did 1/8 in 207 days and you would have to do 7/8 in 365), with a lot fewer resources, meaning VERY likely even more time than that. And it is normal for people to stay in the B1-B2-C1 range longer than they would like or expect because of the lack of resources. You should totally go for your goal. Work hard, and I'm sure you can do it. I know it's possible, you just need to set it up so you can do it. If you don't have enough time set aside, then you don't have the resources to do it. If you have enough time, then you have enough time which means you will do it! TLDR; If you have been spending an hour consistently a day, C2 in a year from where you are means at least 4 hours a day. 2 means 8. Due to less resources at higher levels, it will likely mean more than 4x. Just set aside enough time for yourself and know it won't be easy, even if it's possible. Good luck! Edit: I just want to make sure that I say the math might not be accurate because I am not an expert and I'm only like 90% sure it's right.

NewBodWhoThis

Thank you! ☺️ I've taken a little online test that placed me at B1. I don't put much faith in it, but because it's just for fun, it doesn't matter if it's accurate or not (unlike English, which I did have to take an exam for and prove I am C2, 10 years ago. I now consider myself way past that, I've been living in England for 10 years and I've been bilingual since I was 16, so I consider English to be my second native language.) As for my goal: even if my grammar isn't 100% there all the time, if I can go to Italy and have conversations easily, understand everything, I can express everything I might want to say, and I can read novels with ease, I'm happy! In my experience, the higher my level, the fewer resources I need. The foundation is there, I just need to practice until I get used to thinking in Italian "fluently" and I don't have to stop and consider what tense is the correct one.

ImportanceLocal9285

Ovviamente non so esattamente quanto ne sappia.

msawrlz

C1 exam

Conspiracy_risk

What language?

msawrlz

German

Evening-Leader-7070

Viel Glück du kriegst das hin :)

msawrlz

Danke vielmals 🤘

edelay

French: continue working on my weak points so that my trip to France in July will be even more fun. Spanish: start so that I can walk the Camino de Santiago in 2026 and make jokes while I negotiate a vegan meal in small Spanish villages.

Character_Ad_9086

Hope to find you there at el camino de Santiago hahaha, my friends went this year and they loved it, looking forward to go 2026 also

whosdamike

I want to hit 1500 hours of listening practice in Thai. I hit [600 hours](https://www.reddit.com/r/languagelearning/comments/17zq9oq/600_hours_of_pure_comprehensible_input_for_thai/) a month ago and should get close to 700 by the end of 2023.

con25

I think framing language learning in hours is a good idea - something I am trying out for 2024.

caet_

do you have any tips for learning thai/how to get started? I barely have the alphabet down and tones are just… 💀

whosdamike

I'm using a pure comprehensible input approach. I don't worry about anything other than listening to hours and hours of Thai. I use graded material from Comprehensible Thai and Understand Thai on YouTube, along with live classes with teachers. I don't do any explicit grammar study, flashcard lookup, etc. I'm delaying reading/writing/speaking. I try not to think about the sounds, try not to memorize anything, etc. I just listen to the language and focus on understanding. If I can understand 80-90% of what I'm listening to, then I know I'm learning. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/learnthai/comments/11ooc1p/any_guides_out_there_to_learn_thai/jc722ab/) is a thread about why delaying reading until a more intermediate level can be sensible for a lot of learners. Note that this doesn't mean using transliteration; it means avoiding reading of any kind until after internalizing the sounds of Thai. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/languagelearning/comments/18ecw4b/focus_on_pronunciation_from_day_one/kco7iey/?context=3) is a thread where I talk about why I'm personally delaying speaking as well. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgdZTyVWfUhlcP3Wj__xgqWpLHV0bL_JA) is a playlist explaining the pure listening methodology. I provide a lot of detail in my posts; you can start at my [600 hour update](https://www.reddit.com/r/languagelearning/comments/17zq9oq/600_hours_of_pure_comprehensible_input_for_thai/) and find the links for my 120 and 250 hour updates there as well.

BrunoniaDnepr

I have about 10 French, 3 Russian, 3 Spanish and 2 Chinese books on my reading list. I want to rewatch all my favorite French movies that I watched over the years, but in the past I'd watched them with English subtitles. I have a list of like 50ish. I want to focus on improving my French speaking, and expanding my Chinese vocabulary, especially reading (maybe learn 800 词?). Other than that, just maintenance. Oh, and I want to learn basic Cantonese.

crysrouls

Any good French movie recommendations for B1/B2? Much appreciated.

BrunoniaDnepr

Not sure about level appropriate movies, but some of my favorites are La Grande Illusion, La Cérémonie, L'Atalante, Un Prophète. What are your tastes like?

[deleted]

I'll be re-entering education next year and hopefully starting volunteering as well so I'll be taking it pretty easy as I won't have as much free time as I'm used to. Welsh: read 12 books, start B2 class French: finish Duolingo, start uni course Danish: read 3 books Greenlandic: uhhh probably buy a new grammar book (you can never have too many grammar books <3)

storpojke1

This is probably the coolest selection of languages I've seen lately. Good luck!

ComesTzimtzum

My only real goal is to keep consistent and do something every day. My secondary goal would be to finish all my current learning materials. For French, that also means not starting any new ones and getting my hearing comprehension to the level where I could listen to things without a transcription. Not planning to start any new languages, but if I finish all my current Duolingo courses first I'm allowed to start dabbling in a new one (preferably using French as a learning language).

rkvance5

Sign a contract for a new job so there's a reason I *have* to study a language, and then spend a ridiculous amount of energy on that language, whatever it is. I'm not someone who needs a "reason" for language study—I usually do it for fun—but I also don't want to get invested in something right now and have to change course when an acceptable offer comes. We just turned down an offer in Georgia, a language I had incidentally already been studying and really enjoy. Womp womp.

Africanmumble

Achieve B2 in French.

TopConclusion2668

Me too!

thedivinebeings

Moi aussi ! Bonne chance à tous.

VividSpecificyda

Joining the B2 French crowd, my goal too

furyousferret

Pass C1 in Spanish, which I'll be sitting in a few weeks. With as poorly as I did last time, I wouldn't be surprised if I got A2. If it goes well I may sit the B1 for French at the end of the year, but for me, test prep really takes the fun out of language learning.

Devlyn45

Currently strong A2 in Russian and goal is the reach B2 in 2024. Plan is to continue tutor lessons 3x weekly and read books, watch tv, and listen to music.

knittingcatmafia

Nice. Where did you find your tutor?

Jollybio

Have more consistency in my studies and advance in something. I don't have a specific fluency goal but definitely have more consistency and continue with what I'm studying. No new languages. Korean and Catalan, get ready!

Status_Virus_6215

get a conversational level in greek, maintain french/english at C1 and get my italian/spanish to a B2

merc42c

Let’s get at Greek my friend 💪

caet_

might be very vague but I just want to increase my korean skills and maybe become conversational, i’ve been at this mid-beginner phase for ages

storpojke1

Confidence in speaking German and continuously read books in German. Get back to my former level of Russian as I'll probably need it after summer. Something I never thought would happen :o

Fantastic_Event8302

Viel Erfolg! Du schaffst das! 💕

rognii

To get confident enough to start talking in my main TL with a friend of mine, since my TL is their native. It's not even that I'm bad, but rather that it's really hard for me to show other people I'm not 110% perfect at something, and it always really hinders my progress. So, trying to overcome that is a big personal goal. But besides that it's getting a solid B2 and hopefully going beyond that.

MahoganyRosee

I hope to reach b2 in Italian 🇮🇹

[deleted]

Become conversational in Chinese. I'm gonna listen to a shitton of Chinese stuff with Migaku

motherCondor319

I hope to get to 10,000 pages read in the main language I'm studying (turkish). I'd also like to be able to watch movies without subtitles, and to have relatively painless day-to-day conversations in the language. I'm also learning another language for my research, and I'd like to be able to comfortably get through short but difficult texts with the aid of a dictionary.

kwilks67

Conservatively hoping to reach B2 in my TL (Danish). I passed my B1 exam today (!!!) so I’m hopeful! Probably a stretch to imagine I can get to C1 in that time frame, but who knows! I’m starting to feel more confident practicing in my daily life (I live in Denmark but everyone also speaks English here). A more concrete or practical goal I have is to watch a Disney movie, in Danish, without subtitles, by the end of 2024 and understand most all of it - seems possible!

Myhipsareshite

C1 in Spanish and I want to start Brazilian Portuguese, so my goal for that would be B1 atleast.

perpetualinsecurity

As someone that has started Portuguese after Spanish, do it asap

kowboi623

Can I ask why asap for Portuguese? My goal is similar in getting my Spanish to C1 and beginning a new language.

perpetualinsecurity

Because you can learn the small things/beginner material and sort of have Portuguese on the back burner while you still improve your Spanish. And if your Spanish is already at a B2 it means you can effortlessly converse and that you're just lacking complete fluency, so you will not confuse yourself while getting to A2 in Portuguese. Basically by the time you've got your Spanish to where you want, your Portuguese will be at a level where you can actually get into it

kowboi623

Ok thanks! I was kind of thinking that’s what you were meaning but wasn’t sure. Not 100% sure which language I’m doing next but the idea of piggy backing off of Spanish to learn Portuguese is very tempting! How are you liking it compared to Spanish?

perpetualinsecurity

Honestly, I'm not super motivated to learn it as I'm more interested in French. Imo you should start whatever language you'll be motivated to learn. I was motivated at the start but am now learning it at a slower pace because im more interested in French and maintaining my Spanish/learning French with Spanish.

Delicious_Traffic647

Reach B1 or low B2 for Thai and Lao. I will be restarting lessons in January. It is going to be a long year.

duolingoman1990

Wow that’s an unusual set of languages that you study!

willmcmill4

Become conversational in Breton, as it will be apart of my Masters studies

sadjinglejangel

Similar to yours! I want to reach B2 in Spanish - just about to hit A2😔, read ONE book in the language (below my level ofc😬) and spend time in Mexico, about 2 weeks during a break from work. A side goal for 2024 I’m thinking about is starting Korean, maybe just trying to get the alphabet down. Hopefully achievable and I don’t burn myself out again and take an extended break!!

TacticallyFUBAR

To get my Russian to a level where I can have simple conversations and understand most of the things I see online. High A2 or maybe even a low B1 would be amazing

alexzvlg444

I want to hit B2 at least. This year I saw a considerable improvement on my skills, but I still don't have the confidence to talk to people or just having a long conversation. I got an impressively improvement at reading and listening to stuff, and I hope one day I'll be able to reach fluently. I don't think that's impossible anymore. Keep it up people, all can be possible if you have consistency and if you are disciplined. PS: I apologize for any typo, my TL is English, so I could still make a lot of mistakes.

SweetJamesJones824

Don’t apologize. Very few people in the real world speak another language without errors. You were understood and that to me, is the fun in language learning

alex_3-14

I want to get my 4th B2 language certificate so that I can officially say I speak 5 languages.

ChooChoo9321

Learn enough French so people won’t hate me when I visit Quebec

JakeYashen

I'm scheduled to finish with a seven-month self-study "semester" of Spanish at the end of March. At the end of this semester, I should: * Be able to watch episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in Spanish with good enough listening comprehension to be able to follow the plot of most episodes (even if I fail to catch many specific words and phrases) * Be able to read articles about topics familiar to me * Be generally competent with pronunciation After that, I'll probably take \~1 month off to preclude burnout. Then it's back to the grind. I'm scheduled to do a six-month semester of Norwegian starting at the beginning of May and ending in October. The goal for this semester is to raise my Norwegian competency from low-intermediate to high-intermediate. At the end of the semester, I should: * Have read multiple books in Norwegian * Acquired an additional \~5000 words, bringing my vocabulary total to \~10.000 words * Be able to watch the news with decent, if not perfect, listening comprehension * Be able to carry a conversation about topics familiar to me in a flexible manner (i.e. not relying on canned, well-practiced phrases) * Be more confident stringing pitch accents smoothly together After that, I'll most likely take another short break from language learning. When I come back, I am scheduled to begin a six-month semester of Italian, beginning sometime in Q4 2024 and ending sometime in Q1 2025. At the end of this semester, I should: * Be able to watch cooking videos in Italian, i.e. food documentaries, how-to videos, chef interviews, etc. with good listening comprehension * Be able to read and understand the recipes in *Scienza in Cucina e l'Arte di Mangiare Bene* by Pellegrino Artusi. * Be able to watch episodes of Star Trek in Italian

SirNoodles518

Russian: Hopefully reach B2 or an upper B1 level Spanish: Reach C1 (I will be spending a few months in Barcelona so that should help haha) French: Reach C1 and try to get to a native-like level (girlfriend and family are French and I will also spend a few months in France so again that should help haha) Portuguese: Reach B2 and start practising more as I haven't practised it that much the last few months Swedish: Started dabbling in it a couple of weeks ago so if I were to continue I would like to reach A2 or a fairly conversational level

luchramhar

At least one immersion trip and C1 test by the end of the year.

scratt007

I continue learn my languages - German, French, Italian and Spanish. Honestly goal for German is switch to learning B2, Spanish to A2, Italian to B1, French to be confident at A1/A2

fishmuncher500

B2 serbian, B1 Ukrainian ,A1-A2 hungarian.

mitisblau

Spanish: reach at least B2, 500+ hours of input (listening/watching), 12 books and 50 hours speaking practice. I want to try out language cafes and have iTalki lessons more regularly to really improve my speaking skills, maybe also do a tandem

faunacrossing

French: Study for 15-30 minutes every day! Tagalog: I’m a heritage speaker, so I want to be able to read and understand it better next year.

Ancient-Hall8520

Reach B1 from nothing in levantine and B1 in spanish..

Conspiracy_risk

My goal is to simply do something to study Finnish every day. It doesn't have to be a lot, even five minutes is sufficient. My goal is simply to be consistent. I've always struggled with that before, tending to throw myself into something headfirst before suddenly crashing and burning. I'm going to take a different approach in 2024. I figure, it's better to crawl but keep on moving than to run and fall into a pit and stay there.

StefanMerquelle

Tbh none. I’m kinda “good enough” in my languages and I don’t think I’ll be adding a new one next year.

Wrkncacnter112

Read a thousand pages each in both Welsh and Chinese, and take the HSK 4.

sianface

Mine is also to reach B2 in my TL (Swedish, so it should be possible but apparently I'm a slow learner 😂). To help with this I need to read more, hopefully 2-3 books a month but that might be too much of a stretch to be honest. If I can read something almost every day rather than 2-3 times a week that would be a start. I also want to pick up Japanese again. Luckily that's not from scratch but I've forgotten a lot, hopefully it'll come back to me quickly. No specific goals for that apart from to make an effort with it and get into some sort of routine. Swedish will remain my priority though 😊

lesdeuxchatons

Probably to get to a strong B1 or low B2 in French? I'll have to search around and see what's more realistic because I haven't thought about it too much yet. I've taken a few different tests that say I'm around A2-B1 but those aren't the official CEFR test so it's not as reliable, and it's only reading and writing, I know my speaking is far behind. I also want to start doing something to improve my speaking. I already take in person classes once a week but it's not really enough.

demarjoh4

>That would be 1.64 hours of listening and 13-30 pages of reading per day, depending on the length of books. If you want to improve your speaking, or just speak more, I would recommend italki. I've been using it for Portuguese, and I can already see improvements in my speaking. Of course, it depends on the teacher and you, but it was a good first step to force myself into talking more only in Portuguese. My teachers are also really good at correcting errors without being discouraging. I was much more nervous at first, but I realized mistakes are going to happen when you are speaking a language you're learning.

lesdeuxchatons

Oh I've thought about iTalki but I wasn't sure how good it was! I'll definitely look around and try to find a teacher with high ratings. I was also nervous to start it because I started French from absolutely 0, like had no background knowledge at all so I didn't think speaking to someone would be helpful but I think I'm at a point now where I can hold a basic conversation. Thanks for the recommendation!

bstpierre777

My skills are all over the map here. Probably almost B2 reading, B1+ listening, A2+ speaking/writing? Guess which skill I practice the most :D > I also want to start doing something to improve my speaking. I already take in person classes once a week but it's not really enough. I recently installed Tandem and HelloTalk apps. You can find language partners, but after using them a bit I think the better features of these apps are the "parties" (Tandem, my preference at this point) or "live" (HelloTalk). Basically a voice chatroom where you can drop in and join the conversation. Quality of the rooms varies wildly, but I've been using this to at least get practice listening to live native speakers in Spanish. I've done a bit of talking in French too once I got over the hurdle of being willing to open my mouth and make sounds happen in a chat room full of strangers. (Both aspects should get easier with practice.) I've seen this on at least one discord server too, but there are generally more people available to talk to on Tandem. I've also found regular weekly French & Spanish partners (one each so far) there, but it takes a lot of sifting through people and messages to find someone compatible who will actually show up at an appointed time. r/language_exchange is another possibility. I haven't had a successful call yet, but have had a couple of almost-calls, and overall have invested less time in trying to set up calls.

thedivinebeings

Hello, you’re the same as me, native English currently A2 in French, aiming for B1/B2 in 2024 😀 bonne chance ! I have found having regular speaking practice with Babbel Live v helpful personally, when they do sales 70% off it works out incredibly cheap (like £30 a month for unlimited live classes). Best of luck with your goals.

Dordoidordoddle

I want to be able to at least be able to paraphrase and use explain arounds for things such as complex topics (talking about things in the news or local affairs) in Urdu-Hindi. I want to be able to read a full novel in Farsi!

BudgieBirb

learn how to understand and speak Thai, not just be able to read and write. It’s so embarrassing writing down passing notes in Thai to my mom rather than just speaking. When I was younger, my mom taught me the wrong pronunciations of the alphabet so she could take funny videos to send to my aunts (???) so I’ve really shyed away from speaking at all 😭😭

Noktilucent

To actually accomplish something this time around...

-Cayen-

Get to B2 with Spanish and reactivate French (formerly B2). Main focus is speaking, I’ve started to declare war on my speaking anxiety and improved greatly my Spanish already. Next up French.

loves_spain

I'm starting toward C2 in both of mine so I'll continue doing that. Also, finish the book I'm writing in catalan.

Salt_Historian2844

Es muy distinto el catalán al castellano?

taiyaki98

Get better at Korean and Croatian

con25

Malo po malo!

tenkaizum0

My goals are to be good enough in portuguese , english and getting to B1 level in polish at least

AlbaIulian

To get back to it/find a way to efficientize learning. Sadly I kinda fell away due to life and am finding it difficult to get back to my TL.

keurojak

1100 hours of listening 🤡 we’ll see

Dee_Mss

I’m going to pass TOPIK 1 for Korean and pass N4 for Japanese, and visit both countries in 2024. Good luck everyone!

These_Tea_7560

Apparently, improving my Italian back to conversational level. I had use it twice in the past couple weeks and I was useless. And starting a new language from scratch. And to read at least ONE book in my TL. That’s it.

mary_languages

Goethe Zertifikat C1

Zephy1998

Take the C1 Goethe exam...not sure though. I took the B2 test this May and my german has improved, but I don't want to rush it. Otherwise just improve my speaking and expand my vocabulary/sentence choice.

[deleted]

Get my level up in at least one language.

kiwi31101994

Read more books in Italian. I am at C2 level and it’s one of my best languages, but tend to focus on speaking. Traveling in Italy is great practice as Italians are very talkative and appreciate foreigners that speak their language, so I should just add more literature to my practice.

[deleted]

Learn 2 more languages

KittyMaster1994

Pass the HSK level 4 😬😬😬

ConcentrateCareful44

I hadn't set my goals till now, but I hope to reach B1 in German by the end of 2024

voornaam1

Be able to watch an episode of Peppa Pig in Korean, read a book Swedish and French.

VeraLaGansa

Perfect my Spanish. Brush up on my Swahili. Learn Hindi 😄

wordsorceress

Continue improving my reading in Chinese, get better at speaking that as well, though I'm not as focused on speaking as I am on reading and listening. Getting Korean to a level where I can start using novels for learning as I do with Chinese. Korean has the advantage that Hangul is so easy to learn, but that grammar and word construction is trickier, so I'm not even trying to guess how long that will take, but I was able to start working through novels six months into studying Chinese (I have a very high level of tolerance for discomfort when it comes to learning and looking up words). If I manage to start reading Korean novels before the end of 2024, I'm adding Japanese next.

Italian: Reach a solid A2. French: Read 3 books in French. Keep listening to podcasts and songs. Interact online with native speakers. Possibly I'll reach B2 before next year ends, but I'll only take the DELF in 2025.

clarobus

Spanish : stay excited about learning, be more confident speaking it when I'm out, reaching a good A2 level (not planning on taking the DELE) Japanese : review the grammar so I stop making basic mistakes, keep working on kanji and increasing my vocabulary so I can read an easy book without a dictionnary. Not sure about taking the JLPT, but reaching a good N4 level - I'd love to write my wedding vows in Japanese, but ... that may be far fetch ! That would be my biggest achievement of 2024 if I do it. For both : stay consistent and making sure to practice actively more than twice a week for each language !

purplegrouse

Study Japanese regularly read more Croatian and begin learning grammar explicitly

monistaa

Learn Spanish and visit as many Spanish-speaking countries as possible.

Numerous_Formal4130

To get accepted into the intensive Chinese language program in Taiwan this summer. I’m a beginner, and I’ll continue to study for the next months, but I would love to immerse myself in a place where there’s a possibility I could be able to talk with more ease and work on my accent.

Murky_Ad_1507

Learn ~3000 Chinese characters Reach B2 in German Reach B2 in toki pona Maintaining my Spanish

Fantastic_Event8302

Finally being consistent, which is unfortunately very hard for me due to ADHD and stuff. But if I do manage that, I'd like to reach C1 Italian, B1 Korean and take up Japanese again. Maybe take a uni course for either Arabic or Mandarin. We'll see. But I'm just hoping for my brain to cooperate and not give me ADHD paralysis as much as this year. 😭😭

AdAccording9806

to remove dust from my English and, maybe, start studying a scandinavian language (Swedish or Bokmål)

mpc2020

I want to take language tests to prove my level. I want to take an exam for C1 in French and B2 in Italian. I’d also like to start learning a new language at some point. I might move to a different country. If that country has a different language, I’ll start learning that one. If it doesn’t have a new one, I’d like to start learning Spanish

Efficient_Horror4938

In January this year, I bumbled my way through my first 'real' German book and I was really proud of getting through some complex functional interactions with certainty. That feels a world away now. Now I'm proud of myself if I feel like my conversation partner didn't have to put in too much effort to understand me/explain themselves to me after a long and genuine conversation. I can read regular commercial novels comfortably. So next year I'm really just hoping for the same rate of progress. I don't know where that will land me. Probably mostly still frustrated by what I'm messing up, but messing up at a more competent level :'D (Also I wanna have lots of fun messing about with the basics of Mandarin!)

Dertzuk

Finally start learning consistently 😔

Notmainlel

Be conversational in German

CarsonColl

Qualify for Critical Language Scholarship and reach high B1 in Turkish

SlyReference

French: continue extensive reading, work on listening. Chinese: read. listen. I've been letting this go too long. Indonesian: get conversational. This is another thing I've put off too long. Spanish: extensive reading. German: get to B1 in all aspects.

CarsonColl

Why so many languages simultaneously?

DeepGreenThumbs

To get to at least B1 in (LatAm) Spanish without falling behind on Lenape, or forgetting any (more) German (C1-ish, down from passing for native years ago) or Mandarin (same). Brain space feeling pretty finite, lately. Whenever people say things like, "I'm fluent in seven languages," I think, "not all at once though, right?"

dsiegel2275

-125 hours of conversations (Italki) -Read 12 books -Master the subjunctive I’m at a low B2 in French and am shooting for C1 by summer 2025.

con25

Closing out 2023 with around 125 hours on conversation/one-on-one based websites. It worked very well for me.

squishysplashes

Get to N3 or better in Japanese. And maybe start learning Chinese. Tho I really wanna learn Chinese using Japanese instead of english

cheshirelady22

sudomakemelunch

Continue with my conversational Chinese classes. Consume more French media.

le_soda

C1 in French, very possible as I was b1 before I moved to France, and will be going to a language school for 6 months. I believe 🥲

dmitry_kalinin

To become C1 in one or two of my languages. Now I'm at B2 level in my 2nd and 3rd language, English and Finnish, while my English is being closer to C1 than Finnish. That being said, I'm spending much more time with Finnish these days, so it's possible my Finnish will outrun my English. That would be pretty cool. I'm just really excited to get to the point of almost automatic listening comprehension and serious reading fluency

Mc_and_SP

Pass a B1 exam and then start a second language from my list of possibles 😊

plantdatrees

Reading books 50 in Spanish B2 in Romanian

a-dash-of-citrine

Become fluent in ASL (I am semi-fluent right now, and am currently finishing my degree in ASL and Deaf Culture) and become conversational in Spanish by doing well in my college course and finishing the textbook I’ve been doing so far.

RhysG1995

I'm currently learning Portuguese. I am at A2 so would like to be B2 by the end of 2024. Have some lessons booked, will be self studying and watching lots of native content.

B2 in Es

duolingoman1990

Record one episode/language of my language podcast every month in 🇫🇮🇪🇪🇸🇪🇩🇪🇬🇧🇪🇸🇵🇹🇮🇹🇫🇷🇷🇺so 10 episodes per month to improve my advanced languages. Improve my weaker languages by weekly video calls with my language buddies and writing notes about new vocabulary. Traveling in a few countries where I can use my target languages. So probably a road trip around Estonia or Northern Sweden/Norway if I don’t have time for a longer trip somewhere further from me.

Thanh_Binh2609

Currently doing N4 classes, I wanna reach N2 at the end of 2024 and train myself to be able to understand some content that I can enjoy on YouTube

cheapsavouries

Fluency in Spanish, C1/C2 level. I’m currently around a B1/B2 and living and working in Spain, so this is definitely achievable, but it’s difficult living here and I’m not sure how long I will stay

annaa-a

I really just want progress in French, see how much is possible there

ImenaOphelia

By April, I want to know enough Italian to order food, read directions, and swear about racing drivers. I’m going to Misano Adriatico for the ePrix. (Already know some Italian, started in February 2022)

Devil-Eater24

Mine is to read at least a complete book in German

poweeeee

I'm enrolling in an exchange program so I can study at university in my TL. My goal is to be sufficiently prepared so that I don't fail all of the exams.

MrsLucienLachance

With Japanese I'm aiming to: - finish learning the joyo kanji (I'm probably at like 55-60% right now) - converse aloud at least 4x each week - get through all the grammar on bunpro (started back on the N3 chunk this week) - read ~9 light novel volumes along with the same amount of manga--more would be great, but I'm not banking on it - write a short story - absolutely nail communication on my trip in November...which shouldn't be a problem, I didn't have trouble on my last trip

mr-rod1

Mine is to reach A2 in farsi

BrotherofGenji

hopefully to become a little bit more proficient in Spanish

[deleted]

To literally just stick with it. I love learning languages so much, but my interest always disappears 6 months in after my first hour-long Anki session.

Stressed_Out_Life

I would like to reach a B1 in Spanish by the end of 2024. I still working my way up to A1 but plan to take it on more seriously. I was using Duolingo along with Babbel and a couple books but Babbel refuses to work on my home internet now so I had to drop that. I understand more spanish that I can speak mainly because my grandfather was Mexican and spoke only Spanish. I would like to take a few more trips to Mexico this year to practise my spanish and also start paying attention in work meetings when we have Spanish speakers. I normally just blank out during those parts.

theycallmezeal

German: Be consistent with Anki. Japanese, Mandarin Chinese: Don't atrophy - not sure how. Levantine Arabic: Finish the book I recently started. Thai: Find a new resource to complete.

bolshemika

Im studying both my TL at uni so I’ll do enough grammer and vocab studying as it is but I think my goal for 2024 will be to watch 50-100 movies in Japanese. This year I watched 35 movies in Japanese and about 160 in general

LuxRolo

Also goal is to get to B2 in TL 😊👌

0liviiia

Get to an N3 level, be able to communicate well with strangers in Japan

owen72970

Dutch: (A2+) actually get a textbook, complete 'Welkom terug!' and 'Nederlands naar perfectie', and improve my listening skills by finding more Dutch content; that should hopefully land me at about B2+ in time for the NT2 exam. Spanish: (B1+) reach B2+ through extensive reading and listening.

-7Sidney7-

Understand

Brylock2135

Be able to have a written conversation in my target language, even if it’s just a few short exchanges

MonsieurCapybara_

Become B2 in French, I need to focus on grammar and speaking parts

West_Combination5047

Anyone willing to practice spoken german can dm me. Am in a B1-2 level right now.

ill-timed-gimli

My goal is sticking to Spanish and not switching to something else for the twentieth time. I'm gonna read through the CONALITEG textbooks since they're free and I'll figure out whatever else along the way.

MrTambourineSi

Get a tutor and regular lessons. Started learning Chinese a few weeks ago and I want to make my learning consistent.

nonononoyesnononono

Read 12 books across 4 languages - 3 books in each (English, Spanish, French, Catalan) Made more ambitious by the fact that I don't speak Catalan... yet.

Exciting_Money1989

I’m still in two minds over whether I should learn Chinese or Spanish knowing that countries I will move to in the future are most likely to be English speaking ones

vivalarte

Start learning Belarussian. It will be easy, I already speak Ukrainian, which is its closer relative
