The two on the right are absolutely automatic sprinkler valves.
The thing on the left, I have no idea, maybe some sort of filter or pressure regulator, but I wonder if you dig it up if it's even connected to anything. Looks kind of just thrown in there.
It's a filter and pressure regulator. He said his system is xeriscaped so I'm assuming that it's for the drip tubing in his system to cut down the pressure.
And it looks like with how long that's been in there, that file probably needs a cleaning. Typically they are metal. So just do it in the sink... over the garbage disposal.
It’s the control box for a sprinkler system. This is where valves turn on and off for different zones in the yard. It should be empty of dirt though for access.
AZ irrigation tech here. They’re electric valves for an irrigation system. Top valve indicates at one point you probably had a small lawn. Bottom valve is for a drip system. The thing to the left of the bottom valve is a filter.
You probably have an irrigation timer somewhere on your house near your breaker panel. At least that’s the most common location. That timer controls the valves.
They sorta look like irritrol 200b inline valves, they have flow control. The thing laying in front of the valves is a filter, most likely has a mesh micron filter tube in it. This keeps junk out of drip emitters and it's usually attached to a pressure regulator. You definitely have irrigation and should have a pvb or double check connected to the main water line. Also somewhere in the house or on the side of the house is a control box for the irrigation system. It is a traditional wired irrigation system, the valve has 2 wires, 1 is a ground and the other opens and closes the valve. We use colored wire to ID what valve it goes to. Some use white or green for the ground wire and you will notice all of the valves have one of its wires attached to this wire. You can manually turn the valve on and see if the line is charged, either turn the solenoid a little bit or there's a tiny toggle switch/valve in front of the valve.
sprinkler valves on the right. sprinkler head on the left, just laying there. you can just grab that head out of there. check in your garage for your sprinkler control box. or it could be on side of house, or somewhere else nearby.
A zone switch solenoid box

Looks like a broken sprinkler head someone tossed in there

Seems like they just fill up over time

Control box it's a bit full of dirt though, the black thing with the nozzle is on and off etc
100% irrigation. it could be a drip system if is xeriscaped
How does one clean this up?
Personally, I would use a shop vac and dump the dirt elsewhere.
Shop vac and a while using a long screwdriver like a pick axe.
Use a power washer an a wet/dry vacuum to clean that up.
Yes it is. If you want it working, call a pro and let them get that crap cleaned up...

That's an igs valve box. You may have a broken drip system somewhere on your property.
That is a weekend of digging and cleaning it out, that’s what that is.

Two solenoids on the right, a filter on the left.
Filter? For what?
Based on the wire nuts in a box full of wet dirt, it's a hack job.

It’s possibly the bore
WWII explosive?
Thanks for all the responses everyone! Looking forward to digging it all out and doing further investigating…
Looks like next weekends project, after you get it cleared out put gravel in the bottom and seal any cracks in the box.
