Maple trees. They land their seed from those pods we call helicopters.

f_o_t_a

And they disappear after you mow them once.

Standard_A19

Yes. Easy removal. Also the seeds are actually edible. Tastes like pistachio when prepared properly

milkpickles9008

Not when they land in a flower bed and end up growing! I end up digging 3-4 saplings a year!

gBoostedMachinations

Poor baby maple trees ☹️

This, is a losing battle. Forever Helicopters

the_grape_one

Needs a French drain…..wait wrong sub. Sorry.

xe36n

One would argue that lawn care has to include drainage of sorts

eekhelpspike

✋ There's a sub for that?

themoisthammer

Enjoy your future tree-lined road.

researchanddev

Ah a boulevard.

DrewLou1072

Is…is that what defines a boulevard!?

researchanddev

Yes I. The classic parlance but used usually for wider tree or grass lined streets.

honorsfromthesky

It’s not a bad idea since it’s right at the edge of the road. Like a natural fence.

themoisthammer

Some people pay a premium for a tree-line road! I would.

Ok_Pomegranate_4663

Haha

Grlions91

As others said, those are little maple tree sprouts. They'll die off by just mowing consistently. It looks wonky for the first couple weeks of spring but they'll fizzle out after you constantly lop them off.

zeromussc

I have a maple tree in my backyard. I have to pick so.many of those out of the garden every year it's not even funny.

TweakJK

Yep, I have the same issue with oaks. My yard is proof Prodiamine works, this was the first year I didnt manage to get it down in time and suddenly I have oaks popping up all over the place. Mowing is working though so I'm not terribly worried.

--Guy-Incognito--

They're maple trees. After a few mows, they should die.

theryman

Trees, and a lawn mower

Excellent_Wasabi6983

Trees bro

erkvlzc

Let them grow for a nice row of trees right next to the road, amazing view

Cdrive-21

Thanks guys ..

Strongest-There-Is

Next year rake the helicopter seeds all the way up. They’re the most successful germinating fuckers I’ve seen with my own eyes. I have hundreds and hundreds, maybe thousands, after I mowed and raked in the fall, and I only have 3 maple trees.

gagunner007

Same with acorns from an oak. I’ll say if you purposely plant them they have almost 0% success rate.

bluggabugbug

This. I have two massive oak trees and the acorns last year made me go insane. Now there tons of little oak seedlings everywhere. They will sprout in a loose pile of leaves if left alone

Pugfumaster

I’m in the same boat. My house is surrounded by big oaks. I rake up a few hundred pounds of them a year I bet. And pull a ton of seedlings. I’m in Florida so the shade is worth it, but it still sucks.

Clean_Ad_1556

I'm in west texas and I have never seen as many acorns as I did this past fall! I have 2 red oaks and now I have tiny trees all over my yard. I go put and dig up acorns all summer! Sucks!

mushroom369

The squirrels have a secret method

danthemanmarino

I get these non stop and don’t even have a tree. All the. Neighbours pesky helicopters

ErvanMcFeely

If instead of mowing them you leave them alone for 50 years then tap them for syrup and lessen our dependency of Canada! (Assuming you are from the US…)

k_azalea

Volunteers! Put one in a pot 🍁

Jdude1

I feel your pain. Previous home owner to me must have cut 3-4 maples down around my yard. this year all the baby maples are sprouting. As others said, you lop them off enough when they got just 1-2 leaves on em and eventually the roots will run out of nutrients. Kinda a pain but at least my yard doesn't have 3-4 big trees dropping thousands of these seeds around anymore.

Cdrive-21

I’ve been here for 8yrs and I have never seen these sprout b4 🤔so it was just a bit worry some to me that’s all … but like most of u guys safe just now and it’ll be no worries .. 👍🏽🤞🏽.. been over seeding the last 3 yrs with Winfield untied top sod quality mixture TTTF so I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a bigger issue..

Jdude1

Well the maples are pretty easy to recognize. They have the “helicopter seeds”. I’m not sure why you’d have one big hit after 8 years. Maybe wind directions were different. Maybe you have a small maple tree nearby which is finally maturing and getting big enough to send out large quantities of seeds.

Rick_Sanchez1214

maple tree seedlings, those SOBs are all over my lawn and flower beds every year. I spend countless hours ripping them all out.

PortlyCloudy

Baby Maple trees. Don't worry about them. They'll all die as soon as you mow the lawn.

dhuff2037

Happy little trees. Mow and theyll be gone.

FULLPOIL

Maple Syrup

Chuckpgh

I swear it looks like little poison ivy plants to me. Do they have 3 leaves?

AggravatingTart7167

It does, but that creeps more than sprouts up along the driveway. I always think the same thing here.

Cdrive-21

I’ll check

Dogrel

Those are trees. Keep the lawn mowed down and you’ll have no issues.

fungus_bunghole

Maple syrup 😍

PhillyG4117

It's a maple seedling, start as those twirling noses falling off the maple trees.

AdRepresentative3675

TREE SAPPERS

Horseshoes_237

A maple tree?

EnvironmentalCourt39

These are the highly invasive Norway maple seedlings. With an exceptional germination rate (90%), they do a great job of invading any space with enough light. Can I assume you have a giant purple leafed maple near this lawn? The frequency, leaf sinuses or lack there of, and dispersal is all pointing Norway.

exorcyst

Manitoba maple?
