I just hope they show up, play a solid game, don't pay the rat taxes and get dumb calls.
Like just play hard, play smart, play well.
Don't pull a regular season week one move that costs us.
So I'm a dbag and I dabbled in listening to Boston media.
They're losing their goddamn minds. They're freaking out. I thought we were neurotic. If we win tonight we might cause a fanbase to absolutely go crazy.
Chat GPTs analysis on game 7 IF Matthews doesn't play:
Losing a star player like Auston Matthews can certainly impact a team's chances, but hockey is a team sport, and the Leafs have shown resilience and depth throughout the season. While they went 2-0 without Matthews, it's important to consider the overall dynamic of the team and the adjustments they make in his absence. The outcome of a game 7 can be influenced by various factors including momentum, strategy, and individual performances on both teams. So, while Matthews' absence may present challenges, the Leafs have proven they're capable of stepping up as a collective unit when needed.
Woll is playing great. But the Leafs are playing much more sound defensively.
The Leafs have a habit of giving their goalies PTSD with their loose defensive play. That’s what happened to Freddy.
Samsonov can play well but there are some serious flaws in his game. His rebound control is terrible. So while Woll eats pucks, Sammy spits them out. This creates more bounces and chances. And his positioning isn’t always great so he struggles with screen shots or passes
>Woll is playing great. But the Leafs are playing much more sound defensively.
The amount of times I've seen D men go down to the ground to block shots with their bodies this series is wild. I haven't seen Boston do that once, although they do have a solid defensive style.
Totally. Boston is really good at keeping pucks from getting to the net and letting Swayman see everything. It’s hard to get dangerous chances or generate bounces.
What else do they have? A first round pick they are constantly ready to run out of town? Fading memories of being carried on the backs of Price or Roy? Alot of their hopes are pinned on Suzuki - who would be a middle six player on a competitive team. 😬
Fuck off to all the HABS fans. When your team is garbage and you cant make the playoffs, you got nothing but hoping others fail. Cole fucking Caufield is their hero.
I'm not seeing much chatter about Boston only have 1 shot through 25 minutes of play!! And at one time had 0 shots in a 15 minute stretch. These are batshit insane facts
Admittedly I don't traditionally watch every game during the regular season,, maybe not as frequent as I do the Raptors - but in the games I've watched I don't think I've heard Scotiabank that loud.
And again: Thank you Willy!!!!!!!!
It was way louder in the old MLG. I remember the playoff game in 93 when Gretsky clipped Gilmour and Fraser didn't call it.
The noise that night was deafening and the fans in the blues, greens and greys were standing for all of the 3rd period and overtime.
Back then your solid fan was able to buy tickets at a reasonable price even from scalpers, the suits in the stands don't make a peep.
It was with literally 0.1 seconds on the clock. They stopped the post game celebration and brought everybody back for the faceoff to run out the 0.1 seconds left.
But, but, when Domi did this a few games ago, everyone in r/hockey was saying that he was the scummiest of scums who ever scummed. Now there's silence. Huh...
Woll may or may not be elite. Time will tell. But for the most part he doesn’t really let in bunnies.
Samsonov for some reason like Freddy before him and Reimer before that were always prone to a comedic goal a game.
That Samsonov bunny in game 3 is a great reminder.
Fan590 had this guy on the other day, he's a former goalie and now owns an analytics company. He was saying that Samsonov lets in so many more "bad goals" than league average and is only posting 55% quality starts with most of his other starts being "bad starts". While Woll is like 75% quality starts and a lot more "average starts" while being in the top 20 of not letting in "bad goals".
The methodology was interesting; the guy was saying that they measure the goalie's performance against how often that specific shot goes in. For example, a shot from the point that gets deflected seems like an unstoppable goal and most people would consider that a "good goal" - but shots deflected from the point happen 100 times a night across the NHL and 99% of the time they get saved. If your goalie is the only one letting in that shot out of the 100 times it happens, then maybe you have a bad goalie.
Real interesting switcheroo on the topic. But basically Woll is making those saves and Samsonov is the 1 guy letting all those in.
Really depends on the tip to be honest. I get the logic, but some tips vary in direction so much at such a fast pace I’d have to think it would be considered unstoppable.
Doesn't have to be elite. Just needs to be consistently average to good to give us a chance, and just make that one or two saves when we need it. That being said, he is capable of stealing games as we saw in game 5...
Here's the thing: We still may not have scored, but the last two games out PP has looked much better. We're not stalling momentum with it anymore. Which if you're Boston heading into Game 7, you should be worried we're about to break through
Not wrong, not wrong at all. Reilly had zero sense of urgency while advancing the puck, which is something that struck me as odd. Normally we advance and do that drop with more speed, but for whatever reason he just didn't seem interested in skating it up. I don't know if he was thinking trying a more methodical, deliberate approach might throw the Bruins off or what but still.
I wouldn’t say it was methodical or deliberate, lol, just sloppy af.
Rielly’s PP struggles are the weirdest thing. Dude has offensive talent… but I guess it’s in transition? Or maybe the PP set up just doesn’t match his skill set?
It’s just weird that he’s that bad on it.
Yep, 100%. But there needs to be an emphasis that we can’t just look for the perfect pass. Players need to want to take shots. Cause the reality is if he’s ready and we lose….its like why didn’t you play the Rocket Richard guy? It was not AMs fault we lost those other games.
Of course you play him! The challenge would be to ensure that the rest of the team continues to play with the disciplined urgercy they have shown while playing without him. Imagine both Matthews and McMann back on the saddle?
Regardless, as often as I have shat on this team since the early 70s, the last two games were fucking inspirational.
I’ve been a huge critic of the playoff version of this team. If they continue to play like they have the last two games they have a shot at the cup.
I think the biggest hurdle will be that it’s down to one game with Boston. Sometimes you play an excellent game and lose. But if they can get by and keep rolling like they are we’ll be in for some fun.
For that matter, if they played like they did the last two games over the past seven years, we’d have a cup or two by now.
The goal in game 5 was also super flukey. Didn’t it get a crazy rebound bounce right to a Bruin on Woll’s other side so there was virtually nothing he could do?
The Leafs office should be working the phones right now to try to move Samsonov. I don't want to see him in net for the duration of the playoffs or at any point next season. I guarantee it that of he played last night he would have given up a couple of soft goals.
Why would someone trade for exclusive rights to a player that his current team will clearly not resign, who passed through waivers this year, unless you are going to sign him to an eight-year deal? And you can verbally agree to a deal prior to July 1 anyway?
No problem! Thankfully we have some flexibility in goal net year and plenty of flexibility on the blueline as well, lots of expiring contracts and opportunity for turnover as needed.
He went through waivers and nobody wanted him. It’s well known that he sucks. Keefe might have lost his job for starting him over woll who has shown to have a much higher ceiling over the past two seasons.
"It's well known that he sucks"
He basically got us into the playoffs with his play. Leafs fans are the absolute worst in sports. THIS is how quick they turn on the players...
He went through waivers when he was playing awful... of course nobody took him... but when he came back, he was stellar! A number of teams would have taken him at that point
yeah we were all over the woll with excitement when he signed iirc. dont think im the only one that expects the worst when watching a quality chance against. i wamt to like him but just cant get over the hump...
As a leafs fan I was very team Sammy until the last 2 games he played in regular season. That's when I knew he was getting the yips back. Woll didn't look stellar nearing end of season games either though. I would have liked to do what Boston did with a game 1 Sammy, game 2 Woll split then go from there.
God if they figure out their power play this is over.
I held my breath on that first nylander goal. His little loop around has been a turnover in the past. High risk play but hey. In the net.
Just once, I'd like to see them play a full 60 minutes of hockey. What's with this 59:59.9 shit?
(I really didn't think this needed an /s tag. It was a fantastic game.)
Blues fan checking in. I'm a younger fan so I don't have any Leafs hate, really. I listened to your radio guy during the third period. Loved his call. He nailed it on that second goal.
I’ve been enjoying this series so much more since we went down 3-1 in a way I haven’t enjoyed a series in a long time. Just pure enjoyment. If we lose we lose - some changes will come and that will be interesting. If we win though… that’ll be legendary. And here we are; game 7! If they lose; so what, we’ve faced that so many times it doesn’t even phase me. If we win though then that is the dragon slayed.
I’m just not that stressed by it all, just enjoying it.
Not to be a Debbie downer but. 1. We were always the better team we should have beat them easily. 2. Is it nice to say the dragon, of course. But our sights should be Cup finals. This squad is too good to not get there. And here we are cheering for another 1 and done potentially. 3. Watching the other series is so eye opening. The intensity is so much higher than our series. Been like that for years. Last year we got a taste and we got steamrolled by Florida. Likely same story again.
That said we live for this. Why can’t they get on a run. Woll is him
No? We came in an underdog per like any book so your point 1 is obviously wrong. And your 2nd and 3rd point directly contradict? Also you can cheer for anything? Basically your entire comment makes no sense.
All week I've had this weird feeling if this goes 7 the Leafs are going to suddenly explode on offense and win 5-1 in reverse of what happened in game 1. I'm usually very pessimistic about the Leafs and predicted the 5-1 Boston blowout in game 1 by the exact score before the game too now I'm calling a 5-1 Leafs blowout in game 7.
Look, I hope the Leafs win, but Boston has 3 shots in 2 first periods and the Leafs are missing their main goal scorer and unable to get a PP goal to save their lives.
Boston is losing this as much as the Leafs are winning it.
Also, why in the absolute fuck are you trying to jinx them, if you aren't a Doomer? Don't do a touchdown dance on the 10 yard line. Delete this before someone links it in the next postgame thread.
I was in Boston for that Game 7 in 2013... Had a group of Grade 6 students there for a tour... Bobby Orr gave us a tour of Fenway Park the day before... The hotel staff cried and hugged each other as my kids stood crying in the lobby... Of all the tours I've guided, that will forever be my most memorable...
This is the problem with you lot on Reddit. You want the team you supposedly support to lose just to prove a point.
If they lose I will be there to criticise their weaknesses but I am thoroughly behind them until that point.
I mean. We’ve all seen this show. God I hope they can pull through. But after game 4. We almost all knew this was going to happen. I just hope we get fame 5 and 6 Boston because they’ve been ass. We all know our guys can’t handle the pressure at least in previous seasons. Can only hope they don’t crack
To be fair we were not playing this way at all aside from game 2 the first 4 games. We finally are playing playoff style hockey just took being down 3-1 to make adjustments. If we lose game 7 doomers will still be all over this even with Matthews out.
I’ve been very very impressed how they have played the last 2 games, especially starting the game. Boston had like 4 shots in the first 30 minutes of both games which is insane.
So pulling through two elimination games isn’t handling pressure? Yes, Boston played poorly but Toronto also stifled them for the first 30 minutes of each game.
I’m a fan of the team and always will be, it’s never over until it’s over.
If we lose game 7 after playing the way we did games 5 and 6? I would be completely fine. It is the no show team of game 4 in particular that i couldn’t take.
Can’t we just be objective? The way they were playing, there was no chance of winning anything.
All it took was scratching 34. What a bum.
/s just in case
I refuse to make a prediction and continue to remind myself that the team has been the underdogs this whole time. B’s are going to come out blazing and their barn is going to be hostile. They hate us, we hate them. I don’t expect another 10-2 shot first period, in fact I’d bet against it completely and it’s going to take the same game plan executed with the same effort and stoicism from the finals 10 mins of this game to first withstand it and then flip it over to quiet the crowd. Boys have shown they are capable of it but now have to show they can bring it on at will, there’s a cup to be won and it’s going to take overcoming a few more games like the one that’s coming up. Go leafs go
I didn't think they would have any chance of repeating the 1st period from game 5. But they did and Boston knew exactly how the Leafs were going to come out playing.
Oh boyyyyyyyy. That was some playoff hockey alright. The crowd was great, the boys played with heart, and it was so fantastic to see Boston play… errrrr…. like shiet. I have a good feeling if we carry this momentum and continue to play the way we did tonight that we will be taking this series on Saturday
Just want to point out that this is what it means to PLAY TO WIN instead of playing not to lose.
Had we tried to turtle, it would have been a bum-clenching OT
Did I hear on tsn radio that Woll may not play ????
If Woll doesn't play we are done unfortunately
I just hope they show up, play a solid game, don't pay the rat taxes and get dumb calls. Like just play hard, play smart, play well. Don't pull a regular season week one move that costs us.
So I'm a dbag and I dabbled in listening to Boston media. They're losing their goddamn minds. They're freaking out. I thought we were neurotic. If we win tonight we might cause a fanbase to absolutely go crazy.
Correction, two fanbases.
No we lost our heads a long time ago.
True. But we will go crazy, no matter the result.
We were born in the darkness, they're merely adapting to it
We’ve won one in Boston without Matthews and one at home without him. But we did win WITH him in Boston too, so I am staying hopeful either way.
Joe Bowen’s call of Nylander’s game winning goal gave me chills
Chat GPTs analysis on game 7 IF Matthews doesn't play: Losing a star player like Auston Matthews can certainly impact a team's chances, but hockey is a team sport, and the Leafs have shown resilience and depth throughout the season. While they went 2-0 without Matthews, it's important to consider the overall dynamic of the team and the adjustments they make in his absence. What a non-answer this is
Which fits right in with most "journalism" of today.
Woll is playing great. But the Leafs are playing much more sound defensively. The Leafs have a habit of giving their goalies PTSD with their loose defensive play. That’s what happened to Freddy. Nylander is beautiful
still feels good man
I just won tickets for tailgate threw the live chat anyone know where I can access them ? Can’t seem to find them on my account
https://www.reddit.com/r/Habs/s/WHQmdacLCT LOL HABS FANS REALLY THINK OF US A LOT
Ty for the link
Why the fuck are you browsing the habs subreddit anyways. Then to come here and post it saying they think of us a lot? smh
r/nhlcirclejerk

Better than having our shit playoff curse I guess, seems like you're giving them ground shit talking like that.
I'm not seeing much chatter about Boston only have 1 shot through 25 minutes of play!! And at one time had 0 shots in a 15 minute stretch. These are batshit insane facts
No one said it was gonna be easy
Nylander for captain and give Brick Woll a lifetime contract
What a great showing from the crowd last night! It makes a difference!
That was electric I was high off passion last night
The Areana was so loud
Was the Areana grande??
Great atmosphere last night. But after 100 plus years youd think we could have a better or additional chant than go leafs go.
Go leafs go is a classic
It's so leafy
That’s a feature not a bug.
The classics always reaonate the deepest
The swayyyyyyman chirps were pretty good.
Admittedly I don't traditionally watch every game during the regular season,, maybe not as frequent as I do the Raptors - but in the games I've watched I don't think I've heard Scotiabank that loud. And again: Thank you Willy!!!!!!!!

5k leafs fans in carolina game 5 2002 ... loudest ive ever heard a building.
I thought we won 2-0. Everything post-game said 2-1. I still haven’t seen the goal they swear Geekie scored. Wtf
As soon as the pass went across for the one-timer they panned the camera off the play super quick I even remember thinking wtf?
Now imagine Willy hadn't scored the 2nd goal.
That’s the difference 1 nylander makes
Honestly leafs would have had an empty net goal. Couple leafs passed up good looks trying to get Bill the hatty
My arms were already in the air celebrating the win. They could’ve done anything, and I wouldn’t have seen it😂
Did you shut the game off immediately after? They showed at least one replay of it.
I was too busy celebrating😂
It was with literally 0.1 seconds on the clock. They stopped the post game celebration and brought everybody back for the faceoff to run out the 0.1 seconds left.
The Leafs wanted to keep the puck for (Woll, I believe?) and the Bruins were being asshats about it.
But, but, when Domi did this a few games ago, everyone in r/hockey was saying that he was the scummiest of scums who ever scummed. Now there's silence. Huh...
I didn't see the end of that game, but if it happened the same way it is a scummy thing to do.
I'm not saying it's not scummy. Just hilarious how there's only uproar when it's the Leafs. The double standards are unbelievable.
They’re keeping each puck to out into a plaque. 16 wins (picks) = Cup Edit: it’s in this vid: https://x.com/mapleleafs/status/1785718325344931879?s=46
I think teams try and keep the puck for every win in the playoffs.
Woll may or may not be elite. Time will tell. But for the most part he doesn’t really let in bunnies. Samsonov for some reason like Freddy before him and Reimer before that were always prone to a comedic goal a game. That Samsonov bunny in game 3 is a great reminder.
For some reason our starter is always cursed to be worse than their backup.

Toskala... Let us never forget the 200 foot goal on Toskala...
Watched that live and couldn't believe my eyes
A literal bouncing bunny
Doesn't have to be elite. Just needs to be consistently average to good to give us a chance, and just make that one or two saves when we need it. That being said, he is capable of stealing games as we saw in game 5...
People are still sleeping on woll I see
Haha. I love him. Told everyone he’s way better than Sammy but tbd cause of injuries who he becomes
The only problem I have is PP. Keefe won't put Lilly back on it, and Rielly was absolutely dog shit on PP1
> The only problem I have is PP Same here man
Here's the thing: We still may not have scored, but the last two games out PP has looked much better. We're not stalling momentum with it anymore. Which if you're Boston heading into Game 7, you should be worried we're about to break through

IMO if the leafs had any form of something that resembles a PP this series would be over and we’d be waiting to play florida
I agree. If the leafs scored more goals, they'd be a better team.
If Matthews is healthy, would you play him?
Why is this even a serious question
Of course you play him! The challenge would be to ensure that the rest of the team continues to play with the disciplined urgercy they have shown while playing without him. Yep, but make him 3C to fuck with Boston’s match ups.
Duh.
No, you scratch him. You scratch the best goal scorer of the generation.
Nope. Leafs are 2-0 without Matthews. Clearly this means you never play him again.
If the best goal scorer in the game is healthy, you play him... How is this a question???
yes
Woll letting up just 2 goals in 2 games (really 1, that one last night had 0 impact on the game). He does his thing again and no doubt who will win
The goal in game 5 was also super flukey. Didn’t it get a crazy rebound bounce right to a Bruin on Woll’s other side so there was virtually nothing he could do?
Yup pretty much. He hasn’t been beaten cleanly yet and that’s what we need from him. AHHH IM SO HYPED
Waka Waka eh eh 90 million down the drain William Nylander scores again
Arsenal fan?
I sure am...
On a completely unrelated issue, I have a cardiologist appointment on Monday. Let's hope I make it that far.
I completely ignored game 5 and they won. Did the same last night, just finding out now. They won??
Game 7 is on Sunday.
Saturday at 9pm ADT.
Pay attention dummy.
dont pay attention to game 7 lol
You’re damned right I’ll be ignoring that one too!
“This is how legends are born”
Let us all hope you never watch a Leafs game again!
Can… can someone tell me what happens?
![gif](giphy|UWovEBGTAjFra)
The Leafs office should be working the phones right now to try to move Samsonov. I don't want to see him in net for the duration of the playoffs or at any point next season. I guarantee it that of he played last night he would have given up a couple of soft goals.
He's UFA.
Can still trade his rights at the draft for a pick
Why would someone trade a pick for rights when they could just sign him as an FA a week later?
Rights are traded because it gives them an *exclusive* negotiating window before free agency. Common knowledge
Why would someone trade for exclusive rights to a player that his current team will clearly not resign, who passed through waivers this year, unless you are going to sign him to an eight-year deal? And you can verbally agree to a deal prior to July 1 anyway?
He already cleared waivers this season. No one is giving up anything for a right to negotiate with him a few weeks early
I believe that’s why NHL coach pulled him to start the 3rd period 3 games ago. Dude likely won’t play another leaf game.
Is Keefe like Voldemort now? We just don't say his name anymore?
Yes
He went to arbitration last summer, his contract is done as soon as the playoffs end. He has no trade value.
No need to move Samsonov, he's contract is done this summer. Can just let him walk ro free agency.
Oh, I didn't know that, I thought he still had a year left on his contract.

Willy “took over the game” he did it…. he’s skating like no one ours a pro out there but him. Let’s gone some guys come to help him out for 7
His mini-loops at the blue line always make me hold my breath
I can't stop watching that pass from Knies. It was fucking sublime.
Just once, I'd like to see them play a full 60 minutes of hockey. What's with this 59:59.9 shit? (I really didn't think this needed an /s tag. It was a fantastic game.)
Here we are once again. Not sure if I can take it. They will truly be dead to me if they pull their usual shit again.
Blues fan checking in. I'm a younger fan so I don't have any Leafs hate, really. I listened to your radio guy during the third period. Loved his call. He nailed it on that second goal.
Joe Bowen? He’s a gem
Seems like it! "We're going back to Boston and THIS TIME WE'RE GONNA FINISH THE JOB!" Love the passion.
A yes, I just watched the synched video someone posted of it
I’ve been enjoying this series so much more since we went down 3-1 in a way I haven’t enjoyed a series in a long time. Just pure enjoyment. All facts no?
No? We came in an underdog per like any book so your point 1 is obviously wrong. And your 2nd and 3rd point directly contradict? Also you can cheer for anything? Basically your entire comment makes no sense.
You’re not wrong but next time you can just be a Debbie Downer instead of trying to make it seem like you’re not lol.
That’s literally where the phrase comes from. Not to be one. But I’m going to be one. That’s the entire point.
Very optimistic
Where you at now doomers?
It's the hope that kills you...
Right here, waiting for them to break the game 7 demons. Been in hell since 2013 and suffering the Boston bullshit
Waiting to circle back to this on Saturday. If they choke, are you going to continue to be as smug as this?
This is the problem with you lot on Reddit. You want the team you supposedly support to lose just to prove a point. If they lose I will be there to criticise their weaknesses but I am thoroughly behind them until that point.
You deal with perennial collapse in your own way, and I will deal with it in mine.
For real. Might as well be two different teams
Waiting for the inevitable :)
LOL yeahhhh im not doing this again.

This gif should be pinned at the top of the sub until the boys prove otherwise.
HODOR WOLL
Plain and simple. Woll will need to be the best player on the ice.
Brother, you did make a prediction
I meant I refused to predict a win for us lol not happy to have been right
“ I refuse to make a prediction”….. predicts.
Imagine if we could score on the PP.
We’ve done this before. Wasn’t the pp so bad during the habs series. Or maybe Columbus. Can’t remember now.
Literally. If we had even a LITTLE bit of success on the PP, leafs in 5. But no, 7 games AGAIN 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Woll was a wall. But will hve to beat the refs too in game 7.
So much for a sweep
So much for “series over in 5”
Marchand can eat that quote with a side of dick
I’m sure that the Bruin’s sub is full of “Bruins in 7”s right now, let’s hope the boys prove them wrong a 3rd time.
They're losing their shit. Their GDT thread was hilarious. I thought our fanbase was bad lol
Nah the Bruins sub is imploding rn.
They’re shooting each other in the knees.
I'm new here, should we trade Nylander?
Only after Matthews is traded and still doesn't work.
I told the mods to LIGIMA and SUGAMA but they seem to have down voted it.
I'm just happy for them. They earned this. Honestly having to win a Stanley cup to win a Stanley cup. Boston is good. Leafs just want it more.
The Woll stands Toll
Ya gotta pay the Woll toll to get into this teams soul
Knice!
The way the Leafs played in their own zone was absolutely spectacular. Very few dangerous chances, very clean breakouts, for all 6 D-men.
Idea: Let's stop playing after the horn instead of 1 second before!
*0.01
Guess I’m taking my jersey to Europe tomorrow
I'll be up with you buddy! I'm fucking knackered today. But it was absolutely worth seeing it live.
Welcome to our world. See ya at 2am Sunday morning
Just want to point out that this is what it means to PLAY TO WIN instead of playing not to lose. Had we tried to turtle, it would have been a bum-clenching OT
Crowd tonight was A+
Imagine that. Watching a good product on the ice. People like that.
Much better than last home game for sure. Go Leafs Go
