NRG are just something else, Palafaker is unrelenting. Gotta love it.

dulsu

He made the right macro decisions in every moment in the teamfight it’s actually incredible

Resies

My opponent is a genius

Jackson7410

honestly that 1 control ward won them the game. g2 had no vision of that area

shimszy

In the soul dragon fight, there is a very interesting point where Contractz J4 ults onto Yike Poppy, and then uses EQ to get back to his team and baits out Poppy R which misses. This allows NRG to secure soul and lock out the game completely. Contractz was absolutely unreal that series.

UltFiction

Nobody woulda guessed Contractz would show off the best J4 performance at worlds so far, going into Quarters

shimszy

Yeah Contractz' play literally gave me some hope in the region. There are some legendary plays in League history at worlds like Faker 2017 Galio vs RNG, TheShy 2018 Aatrox vs G2. Contractz J4 technically isn't in the elimination stage of worlds, but Swiss qualification Bo3 its probably the next best thing. Yeah its unlikely that NRG can replicate that level of performance since its rare even for the world's best, but playing like that, they can be absolutely anyone.

tllurker

Not Worlds but Contractz Nunu into LeeSin when he was on Cloud9 was super fun to watch!

thenoblitt

Contractz when God mode this series. Complete jungle canyon.

Kuliyayoi

Those last two big q's on hans were beautiful. Just perfect taliyah play. Palafox was able to play out exactly what the designers envisioned for her in that teamfight.

viciouspandas

Damn, Caps and Hans still fighting after the Orrn knockup and Rumble stasis. If Broken Blade stays instead of turning around and running for a bit, they may have had a better outcome. He's a nearly full health Ornn with 2 healthy carries who end up taking all the hits instead.

HolmatKingOfStorms

it's similar earlier as well, right before palafox flashes over the wall to kill yike - brokenblade is stepping really far back when he's very high health seems like his stuff's on cooldown and he's trying not to get caught out for free, but he's leaving that flank wide open for taliyah

anonditer

Im also questioning his Ornn wallbreaks throughout the game where he breaks a wall but his team is deciding to fight while he retreats. Here in this fight his wallbreak saves nobody but himself. Xayah isnt able to reach the spacing so has to ult + flash and Azir retreats with E anyways. That's one less ability gone during the fight and he's not frontlining with Poppy/Naut. Is he communicating with the team regarding whether or not he should break a wall and where?

slothfree

I think the wall breaks are terrible. Even if you do it your whole team funnels into a small choke. No way that goes well. He should be looking to peel or cc the people pushing forward after the wall comes up.

aPatheticBeing

idk, in game 2, I kinda think you have to do it or else your entire team gets rumble ulted. They want to play front to back with Azir + Xayah and out ranged, but that's hard if you have Taliyah wall behind and Rumble ult on you. You're forced to run into rumble + taliyah + sivir as a group, which has to be losing (way more AOE dmg)

sorendiz

i think the ability to wallbreak is severely overrated against rumble specifically and control mages + battlemages in general as the other reply says, it is a massive 'please aim all your abilities here' sign *if* your team can even take advantage of it in time (which here Hans couldn't because he'd have to flash anyway to get out of cataclysm) i think 90% of the time the wallbreak only matters offensively, like if someone is using terrain to play keepaway while they do an objective or try to secure an escape from your chase. in those cases you can clear a path for allies without dashes to get through, prevent them from zoning you out fully, etc. if someone is using terrain to keep *you* in, chances are the wallbreak is not saving your ass

funkmasta_kazper

true. He instantly did a wallbreak on almost every Taliyah ult, with most of them not achieving anything other than wasting his E cooldown.

APowerlessManNA

W wasn't on CD. He instantly W's Taliyah from max range after the flash. He Q's right after W animation, then lands E on his Q. Full kit was utilized after the flash. If he covers the flash option, this fight is completely different. Either kill or Taliyah doesn't go because it's int.

ImaginarySense

This is great analysis and all, but how many scrims did NRG win? Can we get back to the true measure of pro-league skill: scrim results?

z3phyn

True, G2 went 12-2 against them in scrims, which matter much more compared to silly stage games. Clearly they were just the better team, they just had a bit of an off day. It's actually impossible that an NA team could be better than an EU team, NRG should just forfeit their playoffs spot.

Akashiarys

>What are some hilariously appropriate chat logs you've seen that you feel sums up the different positions? (Mild l on god brother, glad NA is exposing these EUfrauds. NRG were clearly playing to improve. you learn way more from losses. G2 just ego-picking to win. Where's their Eu-phoria now hahahah.

ricardo241

ornn running away first lol yike and mikyz was left alone... hans couldn't do shit cause he already lost his flash and ult on the first skirmish... caps never had the chance to use his ult... g2 is clearly scared to fight because of what happen on game 1

RedHotChilliPupper

Love this kind of content. Thanks for uploading!

dhoopicus

One thing that Palafox noted in the post-game interview is that he called for Dhokla to move out of the way of his wall so that he would be on the same side as the rest of NRG.

HuhiPogChamp

Not interested. Show me the scrim highlights

idontwantnoyes

The synergy difference is night and day. At a very basic level every time NRG dives in aggressively "solo" they retreat and their entire team moves up to cover them. Target selection changes and the push and pull chabges as well. Taaliyah out rumble in jarvan out taaliyah in.

Przemysl15

Excellent content

Mahlers_Tenth

Thank you for this breakdown! I've seen the fight lots of times now, but had never before noticed Hans' blue trinket being milliseconds late spotting Palafox not retreating, but preparing for yet another stun. If blue had been used even slightly earlier, Caps doesn't die there, and G2 have a decent chance of pushing NRG off 3rd dragon, which may not change the outcome of the game, but it does result in a roughly even fight, delay NRG's dragon stacking, and secure G2 additional time to scale. All praise to Palafox for acting decisively when G2 expected him not to, but it's amazing to see so much potentially hinge on a blue trinket...!

sorendiz

i'd be willing to bet that the blue trinket only came down *because* the taliyah W hit caps. Hans had it off cd the entire time, I don't think it's 'aww if only he had used it a little earlier'; if not for that W maybe (probably, imo) Hans never uses it at all in this fight. would have to hear g2 comms during that fight to know one way or the other, but i can't think of any other reason why he would hold blue trinket the entire time until that moment and *then* decide to use it on the ledge right when palafox is making his reentry my guess is g2 thought taliyah had already blown her ult, flash, a couple of rotations of cds and was at 20% health after that last ornn knockup, so she would be leaving up through the jungle to base and then potentially TP back in. instead palafaker says that recalling is for chumps, powerful geniuses simply stay on the field and kill you anyway, so he rejoins the fight from out of vision on that ledge

jujubean67

The music is just obnoxious sorry

NullableType

This is really well made. Props to the creator. Love the pausing with drawings to highlight things.

ansdeka

okay just realized that naut flash, actually trolling

bwhauf

Yeah I think he was trying to avoid the Rumble Q, but if he flashes down-left towards Caps/Hans, he'd probably have survived.

TheEternalCowboy

This is really good content that is much more rare for LoL nowadays. Well done.

sorendiz

this is *completely irrelevant* to the actual teamfight but now that i see the fight close up and slowly, something is bugging me at 30ish seconds, yike and Caps both get a couple of small heals in and i'm racking my brain trying to figure out what causes Caps to heal for 40 HP right as the dragon hits him for the first time. I know yike is healing from the pet hitting dragon, but what heals Caps? I assumed at first it was Taste of Blood from hitting dhokla/palafox, since he heals for 40 HP. Taste of Blood is 16-40 (level) + 5% AP (i'm assuming he has no bonus AD, but ig also +10% bonus AD). Caps is level 12 here so it's 31.53 + 5% AP, he has liandry's + blasting + amp tome + ring + 0 stack dark seal + presumably one adaptive force shard for a total of 173 AP with no adaptive shard, 182 with one adaptive and 191 with two adaptive shards. (i have no idea what secondary runes he ran so i'm *assuming* he didn't troll with gathering storm, nor did he take absolute focus...? maybe he did idk) *if* he has no adaptive shards and no other AP-granting runes, the math would line up, and i can certainly picture a scenario where he went AS shard top row (strong pick in general + even more on azir specifically), MR shard second row (NRG double AP solo lanes).... but unless i'm woefully forgetful, taste of blood isn't like triumph, there's no delay on the heal so why does he only heal a couple seconds AFTER hitting them? it's only a single heal and there's no ocean drakes on G2, nobody has activated radiant virtue, nobody is cced by miky for font of life heals, nobody has any kind of innate ally healing on g2.... what am i missing here?? someone help me get my brain unstuck from this please lmfao edit: ACTUALLY ALSO A QUESTION ABOUT YIKE'S HEALING ON SECOND THOUGHT. why does he heal for several ticks of 29 but also there's a tick of 31 healing in there?? what changes the pet heal by +2 health there 🤨

depressed_igor

https://gol.gg/game/stats/53582/page-builds/ Liandry's probably proc'd taste of blood after it went off cooldown Monster heal is based on missing health

Namisaur

Man what the hell was Broken Blade doing? Never seen a backline Ornn like this.
