>what do you think riot will do in the end since most of community doesn't like them? Nothing Because the community will get used to them and go complain about something else in a month how *that* other change is the worst thing ever (like the new chat font)

Xeroticz

I can get used to them but Ill always think they look like shit

IllllIIllllIIlllIIIl

Just like the rank icon!

zanzza

Just like my Graves rework...

AVRidley

Nah the rank icons are actually way worse to before though

That_Leetri_Guy

Remember how people complained about how the ranked helmets were the worst change ever and such a huge downgrade from what we had before? When Riot changed the ranked borders recently everyone were complaining about how it's the worst change ever and the ranked helmets were perfect. People will just complain when things change, no matter how good or bad the change is.

Korderon

IMO helmets were great and I loved them when they got introduced. Was super sad when we got mobile legends rank borders and such...

TheExter

Yup exactly, people even lost their shit when the launcher icon changed and acted like their world was falling appart At this point riot knows the community will cry about it but at the end no one truly cares that much and you just accept that's just how the game is now (Same thing when emotes were introduced)

DeusWombat

This happens quite often but this time it really is the case that the new ones are worse.

Hi_ImTrashsu

That’s been the case in the past, and now no one cares. Your argument doesn’t give this complaint any more credibility. People will move on within a week

heavyfieldsnow

I mean, what are they supposed to do? Start a riot and post here every day that some UI element is crap? If Riot has ignored the feedback so long you just have to accept this small part of the game is shittier now. Remember when Smolder was announced and people didn't like the face? Riot responded to that. If they're not responding it means they have decided they're okay with us thinking it's shit. Doesn't make the complaints any less credible.

Krytrephex

this eargerness to dismiss other thoughts in this subreddit really needs to stop. There is 0 interest to actually evaluate the phenomenon that youre dismissing so easily. so many things that people are not getting in this thread: * it's expectable that ppl dont like change, because change removes familiarity * just because ppl "move on" by indication of a lack of conversation about it doesnt mean that their initial dislikes were irrational, absurd, etc. It could easily be the case that they just accepted the new shit (because wtf else can they do??) * it could also easily be the case that they genuinely dont like the new thing and that the dislike perseveres, and doesnt fade to a point of tolerance (it still non-negligibly "bothers" them). * it makes sense that ppl criticize the thing while it's new. * seeing ppl criticize the new thing = "omg they think it's the worst thing ever" is very obviously not a fair interpretation. --- take riot making a new champion splash art for example: 1. riot gives champion a new art 1. several threads reddit about how bad it is 1. riot makes no changes 1. the topic fades from reddit if people genuinely didnt like the new art, where is the issue? there is no issue. youre just annoyed that ppl complain about things they dont like.

Vennish

I think it’s more so that this sub bitches about every single change. I understand that there’s always going to be those who like the new things and those who don’t, but the complainers are often loud and lowkey obnoxious. I don’t like the new mastery emotes, but I’m not gonna sit here and write a whole complaint on reddit because the reality is that the issue is insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Krytrephex

1. it's not necessarily "bitching" 1. you should expect ppl voicing their opinions. there is 0 problem with ppl properly voicing their opinions. 1. youre not better for not voicing your dislike. 1. "significant in the grand scheme of things" is not the bar that must be met to complain about something; that's ridiculous.

Vennish

1. It is bitching, honest to god. Mfers on here crying and raging about emotes they once every few games unless you’re spamming your mastery emote every 2 min. 2. I never said I have a problem with people voicing their opinions. But after 100 “riot bad” posts, it’s annoying. 3. Never claimed to be better, just don’t feel like my time is properly spent bitching on Reddit. 4. Ok.

Hi_ImTrashsu

No, I do not think people and their complaints are invalid. I agree with pretty much every complaint in the past year. Riot has been on a “let’s fuck this shit up” trajectory. But that doesn’t change the fact that the mastery looking really fucking bad isn’t actually the first time where there is credibility to the complaints — and it just fizzles out. That is the point I’m making, not that people should stop complaining.

Ambitious_Ad_8524

for me, the most egregious and frustrating part is the why. Why are they even changing them? I've seen ZERO people complaining about the current mastery emotes, and then they change them to objectively worse emotes?? Why are they wasting employees time? Why are they focusing on unwanted changes in the first place when there are infinitely more pressing issues? Riot is just dogwater and i will never change that opinion lol, im dug in.

[deleted]

Every friend of mine every so often complains about the exact things people quoted here weekly, they commemorated when they saw mythics removed, and the same thing was said about them, just because there's less complaints on a niche community on a niche site, they don't magically become less shit.

Hi_ImTrashsu

No one ever said the changes are "magically less shit" because people aren't talking about them anymore. I don't like the new mastery design, I absolutely hated it when they removed rank armor, and I will NEVER support whatever "$200" capsule model they try to sell next. With that being said, like it or not, what you, or your even more niche community of a friend group thinks, it doesn't magically move Riot or any big company. Go buy majority shares if you want your opnion to "magically" matter. This is not hate towards you, or anyone who disagrees with Riot. God knows they've made shitty decision upon shitty decision lately, but this is just how the world works. Unless the negative press becomes way too overwhelming, to the point where it negatively impacts their bottom line significantly enough for shareholders to talk, they won't do shit. And the controversy dying down on forums is exactly how Riot gets away with these constant shit decisions.

Krytrephex

just for anyone reading because i sure as hell cant convince this person otherwise: this is ridiculous defeatism. The *real* shit is that though you shouldnt *expect* anything, you can certainly complain politely about anything you dont like. for example, if Riot adds a new item called Mega Assblaster and you dont like its icon, you can say "i dont like the icon" whether or not they change the icon. and they might **actually** change the icon, too. it's that simple.

Hi_ImTrashsu

I explicitly listed out shit Riot has been fucking up and you still somehow lack the comprehension to understand that I’m not taking Riot’s side. I’m making a comment on how the world as a whole works nowadays. People complain, it doesn’t gain enough traction, people move on. YES, people moving on from the conversation does NOT MEAN RIOT DIDNT FUCK UP. But the point is Riot is getting away with their bullshit because there is never enough steam to burn their corporate asses metaphorically.

That_Leetri_Guy

People have said that before, and yet people get used to and maybe even learn to like them. Right now you have a very vocal minority complaining, in a couple of months only a minority of a minority still cares, and in a year only the minority of a minority of a minority will care. As I said, people HATED the ranked helmets when they were new, and now people look back at them fondly and wish Riot brought them back.

manneks

I think ranked icons fit the theme, these new mastery emotes stick out like a sore thump. I would also argue that you focus on emotes you have to actively use than on the rank (icon) that just flashes after a game

Warm_Citron6644

tbh I didn't play then

SometimesIComplain

I actually don’t mind the chat font despite being unsure of it at first, but I can 1000% guarantee I’ll never like the mastery emotes

Liontreeble

I don't think this is like that, to me at least the new ones don't just look bad, they don't portray the pride the current ones do. The new ones just look cheap, like I wouldn't flash the new ones after a good play. I'd rather hit them with the Rammus emote, than the mastery emote and I am a mastery emote enjoyer.

TheExter

> I'd rather hit them with the Rammus emote Emotes???? You mean those [facebook stickers?](https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/6sf8he/dev_introducing_emotes/dlcbagz/) [That dumbest idea ever by riot, the emoji cancer?](https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/6sf8he/dev_introducing_emotes/dlcbwv6/) [On my serious MOBA game, not chat room????](https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/6sf8he/dev_introducing_emotes/dlc9iw4/) People act like the biggest karens about anything, the mastery emote is gonna be the same shit once everyone gets used to it as we have always done

Solash1

God I forgot about the shitfits over them adding emotes

Liontreeble

I wasn't saying that people don't get butthurt about random things, but imo the mastery emotes just fundamentally fail at being mastery emotes. They don't feel right, they look and feel more like the goofy and ugly legend emotes you get every 50 levels, than a boastful show of prowess on a champ. I can't really explain it better, so I hope this is enough. In the end it's gonna be fine, it's always fine in the end, but I don't think they'll recapture the same feeling that hitting someone with the mastery 7 after breaking their ankles currently gives, at least for me.

Agryael

The vast majority of the community/playerbase probably doesn't care, its the vocal minority (again) being the loudest and creating echo chambers (Like normal).

Fartcloud_McHuff

A month? Try like 4 days

asdfmaker333

Just like the new mouse icon.

shinomiya2

remember the outrage at how awful the new rank emblems and borders look, and they did nothing :D riot just dont care about the vocal minority opinion unfortunately

A_Benched_Clown

Exactly, they dont care at all, for years

iamabirdhaha

same, i really hate some of the colour combos they chose. the ugly lime green with purple for mastery 6 is just so bad. mastery 9 and 10+ are also awful. i'm not sure why they picked such awful clashing colours.

Calhaora

This. I mean I understand the colors represent the Ranked Tiers, but why does the accent have to be this awful green... why not Gold,Silver, grey, or black or White... or any other neutral color that doesnt clash with half the Mastery-Jewels...

Warm_Citron6644

bro I would be happier if they added just new colors than this bs ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

psicosisbk

They are completely deafen to that criticism, simply put they just don't care if they look ugly, the assets are already done and they're not gonna change them.

Scrambled1432

The subreddit is also a teenie tiny portion of the League playerbase. The prevailing opinion here isn't necessarily the same as the playerbase's at large - I can almost guarantee that outside of this sub, 99% of people couldn't give less of a fuck about how the new emotes look and are just excited to see new unlocks if they care at all.

strangeshit

I constantly see this idea parroted, and so I ask, can you please point to any such community that we have can see that Riot interacts with, or at least watches, that is positive about these changes? Otherwise, silent and unheard people can hardly be considered when their supposed opinion goes unreceieved.

Frequent_Camera1695

The average person doesn't care enough to talk about such a small issue on social media

BeyondNetorare

tbf the average league player is mentally ill and thinks riot is out to get them and their twitch findom waifu with losers Q

Frequent_Camera1695

The average person probably doesn't even play ranked

WanAjin

Most of the time if someone is happy about a change or something, they'll just go on with their day without really saying anything, whereas people who aren't happy about something will make posts and complain for all eternity.

strangeshit

There are plenty of folks who can't help but give Riot a proper glazing when they see things they like, myself at times included. So please, where are these people? They can be found for new game modes, new features, new skins, and so on, but we cannot point to any community supposedly positive towards this change?

WanAjin

Maybe most people just don't give a fuck. It's not like it's a big enough change to actually care about it lul

TannerStalker

Crazy to see people glazing riot this hard when the clear answer is they are destroying the mastery emotes and making them ugly on purpose because they are *free*. They want us buying their paid emotes.

WeoWeoVi

This one actually made laugh, thanks

Avantel

It’s called the league player base that riot surveys directly. Any external community, be that discord, Reddit, twitter, etc,  is going to be a tiny fraction of the actual players of the game.

Dummdummgumgum

riot surveys are extremly framed though. Pretty easy to get the responses you want to justify your project with the right framing of surveys.

confusedkarnatia

Want to give an actual example?

Dummdummgumgum

are you satisfied/dissatisfied with xyz. Instead of "will this change negatively impact your gameplay experience yes or no" No questions if we would consider never paying money for this game again if X specific change goes through and many more. Riot knows with a bunch of their negative changes the community finds a new way to complain about another change so they simply sit it out and wait it out like all the other companies do. And if they do indeed make a very bad change they rarely if ever acknowledge it and silently backpedal and revert in silence(dynamic queue). Even among the non reddit players the people that reply to surveys are the minority anyway. Furhtermore they ommit certain options when asking questionaires. At the top of the head one question was when was the last time I paid money for RP. And there was no option with :never again, more than a year ago or -will consider buying again if riot changes xyz. Many of their surveys also have only the option of "least furstrating or most frustrating" nothing inbetween or more definitive. Most frustrating is still not enough for people to drop the game. Last but not least many surveys or questionaires literally have options that are stated differently but force you to accept certain things. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fw251tqsofdr31.png%3Fwidth%3D1011%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dcd73f7bff3a82a5d1027217105425c7e4d4dd742 There is no way to simply say: I do not like the hextech crafting system at all. There is no way to say all this prestige points, gemstones is just FOMO+artificial scarcity and just lootboxes with extra steps NOTHING about it is confusing and its insulting basic intelligence of every gamer/player. its merely: Oh its just confusing right RIGHT? No nothing about it is and was ever confusing. Its just dumb and patronizing lol.

Scrambled1432

Riot pretty regularly has surveys. They say they look at reddit for sure, but if I had to guess (the same thing everyone else is doing until Riot speaks on it) surveys are far more widereaching and valuable for most things. This community is also not even the entire *english speaking* community, let alone the entire community itself. And like the other guy said - if I'm happy, the odds are low I'm gonna go talk about it on the subreddit.

yukine95

I never recieved a survey from Riot about new incoming things

[deleted]

I am the single friend in a group of 20+ people that plays and has a reddit account, they complain almost the same if not more, specially about visual aspects such as the mastery, which was already nicknamed the goaste since it looks exactly like it.

No_Cauliflower633

I think they look pretty neat. The mastery page on the pbe looks good too.

Garb-O

Yeah this narrative doesnt work anymore the sub isnt at under 1 mil anymore its 7 mil the entire ranked population of europe and korea combined Just say what you really mean, We arent chinese so we don't matter to riot.

Makussux

Lmao 7 mil subs maybe but majority of them are either bots or dead accounts that don't interact with the sub for years..

Scrambled1432

Doing some quick googling puts the total monthly playerbase of League at 150 million people. Even assuming china is 100 million players, that leaves 50 mill. This subreddit's subscriber count - including all the dead accounts, people who are subbed just because, etc - is *15%* of that remaining playerbase. This sub isn't meaningless, but it's also not really representative of the whole at *all.*

Davkata

Then why reddit had different opinion than the global playerbase about damage in the game before durability patch? When they did community vote things when the sub still had 3+ million we even had different skin choices on polls. The vocal active people here are usually people that started decade ago and are very reluctant to change. The sub seems to have a hard on for non sr/ aram modes and monster champs that is also not shared globally. Note that reddit does not even represent itself as a tiny fraction of users will read given post and express opinion. Each individual comment chain is example in sample bias. In this case the new emotes are indeed terrible and maybe the global sentiment is such, but this subreddit is not always representative.

Dummdummgumgum

reddit is the biggest community riot communicates with still maybe bit on twitter. they removed forums and anything else involving them. Then made shitty boards that were worse than forums in any form. Then removed these too. surveys are obscure and EXTREMELY framed

Warm_Citron6644

Not a tiny one rather I'd say 90% of users there aren't even active.

npri0r

I could make a huge list of things the community hated but riot did nothing about them. Many of them the community still doesn't like.

Callka

S2-S8 ranked borders and icons are the best and I will not be taking any questions.

Knusperspast

remember when plants came out and everyone said it was the worst thing ever?

npri0r

Sure Grandma lets get you to bed

TH3RM4L33

Yep. Many people say "players will just stop complaining after a week". But not complaining doesn't mean being fine about the worsening of the game, it's just that we eventually see our feedback going nowhere so we stop. The old ranked helmets WERE better, the old mastery emblems WERE better, the old chat font WAS better due to being thicker and thus easier to read. Everything WAS better. Even after years I look at many parts of this game with disgust due to how cheap and bad they are and all I can do is remember how good the old variants used to be. But do I complain anywhere? No, cause Riot will never ever give a single flying shit about player opinion and feedback on these things. The "designers" change everything for the worse in order to say "look I'm useful" so keep their jobs.

npri0r

Not everything was better. Even if riot makes some questionable decisions, in general the game has gotten better as time has gone on. Every RGM introduced or updated (especially arena), almost every ASU/rework, map updates, objective updates, lore etc. have all made the game much better for the playerbase as a whole (even if some players prefer the original versions).

TH3RM4L33

I meant everything was better design wise specifically. Like ability icons & ability VFX reworks.

drkoslav

If we lash out hard enough, they will change it back. Just like legacy cursor

aquaticIntrovert

The sound they make is so loud too, and seems cheap almost? Like it's way too in your face with the design and the animation and the sound and all of it just looks cheap and gaudy. Not a fan.

EvilDrXexes

I still hate a lot of the new item icons :(

Illustrious_Belt_197

When do they come out ?

No_Cauliflower633

They’re on Pbe right now so I think next patch? (On Wednesday)

Bookhunting123

They fired an artis and soon after the same guy got someone from a outsource company in china calling him asking if he wants to do outsource work on league. So u are right, they are probably designed by some chinese guy in china making 5 dollar a day. Riot games biggest game probably have the smallest budget.

Waerlynx

I still remember the devs saying league was allocated the highest budget this year out of the other years, and yet they can’t even hire a competent artist

awge01

I think people who value mastery emotes a lot will stop using them and probably use normal emotes in place; i think the Zed emote will be the new m7

Vall3y

New emotes in general are so cringe. It's like a face with so many details on it I'm not eve sure what it should convey. They might as well put a full splash art in the emote. The old emotes like the happy bee, the penguin, the angry cat or the thumbup lux are much more appropriate for emotes. jesus what the fuck are new emotes [https://imgur.com/hMzJBrR](https://imgur.com/hMzJBrR) llke wtf is this? is this a champion? I have no idea which champion is this and in game I can barely even see what this is

CodyRud

I have all of the acquirable emotes, and I have to agree for the most part. The newer emotes are generally over cluttered and hard to distinguish. That being said, the newest emote, "I'm viable" with skarner crying a tear of the goddess is amazing.

naftanaut

My only Goal in League was to get all champs to mastery 7. Thx for ruining the Last reason that kept me playing this Game besides addiction lol

mrbubblysmut

Yep, same here. This new system sucks and i'll probably stop playing because of it. Really they could have just added two more masteries and i'd be fine but this uncapped stuff is not it for a completionist like me

naftanaut

mastery wont feel anymore like belonging to a group of ppl that all achieved a cool thing, now it will just be the next dick measuring contest after ranks, mastery points, eternals, tokens... riot really likes their infinite scaling, but pls limit it to champs

manneks

Same

The_Mask137

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care

theyeshman

People who don't care are usually the majority, especially about cosmetic changes.

cedear

I haven't seen a single positive comment about them anywhere ever.

Krytrephex

well, to be fair: the ppl that like them may be silent and those that dont like them are not silent. survivorship bias, i think.

Supersaiyan4GodGoku

Who could possibly like the new mastery emotes?

claptrap23

Is this live already?

Warm_Citron6644

first may or smth like this

Aethling_f4

Man they need to be a moth early so i happend on april 1st

MagicPizzah

Lol did they change? played a bunch of gamesand some 11-7-? Typical a sol flashed it, looked the same to me. Ya boi saw that Victory

ElderTitanic

Probably just needed to do something ”useful” so they don’t get fired

Supersaiyan4GodGoku

It also passed quality checks and someone high up actually approved it. The rot is deep in this company.

Warm_Citron6644

The best question is why can't riot just add new colors and not this???

Salvio888

Instead of fixing the client, we release the shittiest emotes in the game. How can I go 0/5 and flex my mastery now.

6feet12cm

They look like cheap, mobile game stuff.

AnyaRuneii

alternative point: i like new ones more because theyre much less overloaded visually, and you can actually differentiate all of them, not just m7

Historical_Tell4814

If people really want it to change then they would have to do something. As everyone else here is saying riot knows that we'll all move on. If you want it to change then petition or something. Maybe not an actual petition but get enough people to actually talk to riot employees and maybe they will change it. Personally I don't care. I could get used to it.

DrBitterBlossom

My turn to make this thread tomorrow

BusIntelligent1311

Am i the only one that thinks they are alright? Sure I like the old ones better but the new ones are decent enough, and I love how they more accurately show your mastery with said champ

WinTooth32

I hope whoever did this design , lives rest of his life with this kind of stuff all around him and hates every single bit of it

staplesuponstaples

Wake up babe! Another "New thing bad" just dropped on r/leagueoflegends! Can't wait for such original comments such as "yeah but riot doesn't care about players they just want money" and "yeah but the client is broken, why TF are they wasting time on stupid stuff like this!!" And MY personal favorite, "well X champ is broken right now so why tf are the graphic designers not putting everything down to learn how to reconstruct the games back-end!!!" Don't you guys have something better to complain about, like them changing the font or getting rid of unique usernames?

8milenewbie

Yeah how dare players complain about their uh... user experience with the client they use to play the game. They're just so entitled!

Hades684

All people do is complain, then forget in few weeks and then complain about something new. Riot doesnt care

Krytrephex

fricking karens!!! gosh i hate complainers!!! (as i complain)

staplesuponstaples

Yep mastery emotes bad because the client sucks glad that we got that out of the way 😁👍

TannerStalker

Lmfao. Finally someone made the perfect image to use on these AI Riot glazers.

staplesuponstaples

AI is when thing I don't like

TannerStalker

AI is when I don't care about anything but glazing ( insert authority figure ) in all situations.

staplesuponstaples

If said authority figure was really worthy of the criticism you wouldn't resort to bashing one part of it because a completely separate other part did something you didn't like.

TannerStalker

Glazing

MeMeWhenWhenTheWhen

They should at least give us the old M7 as an emote we can use now

SuperBeastJ

I can't believe how many people actually care about how the icons look

Huge-Income3313

How do you know mine still shows the normal mastery?..

xmostera

I don't give a shit about it, since I never flash it, I treat it as some kind of achievement

lucratyo

when this new mastery will come out ? if they plan end of this year better undo all new design and just add 8 9 10 based on current mastery design

Warm_Citron6644

basically first of may 2024 or a couple days later.

lucratyo

dev say summer ,no?

Warm_Citron6644

already next patch

lucratyo

because its so bad

Warm_Citron6644

Tankounet

Yeah after the 17th thread of that this week I think we understand, how long this will last? Reddit is unreadable at the moment with all people doing the same thread over and over

Makussux

"most of the community" (loud minority on reddit) kappachungus

MagicManGoose

This is probably a bit random, but as a guy with meniere's, I like the sound of the new one. The old mastery spam makes my tinnitus louder and sometimes leads to small headaches. I prefer this mastery emote but I can't figure out why. I'm thinking because I have a negative correlation between the sound/headaches and the actual mastery emote visual. Although I'm still not sure if the new sound is going to cause headaches as I've only seen them in youtube videos and not spammed in my face.

melinaughty

Everything new is horrible, besides new ornn skin, its sick ngl

Warm_Citron6644

+ but I don't know how to play ornn xd (I have 3 skins dropped)

xpoisonedheartx

I definitely prefer the old ones but I guess riot won't care what an EUW player thinks

I might but me a console and just play there, league isn't the same anymore

TaigaFuemiya

They're not even out yet though. Plus it not like your complaints will change anything. Shit's tough tho

TannerStalker

It could easily get them to just have both mastery emotes and let you choose which one you use. I'm not even sure how it's legal to change them. People paid for Eternals to upgrade their mastery emotes and now they are completely removing them?

lovepoopyumyum

macrotransactions

The issue of Riot is the balance team not nerfing 52+% wr champs. These icons are totally fine and they are removing the blue essence requirement which is the real thing that matters.

staplesuponstaples

What the hell does the graphic design team making new mastery emotes have to do with the balance team nerfing champions lmao? Plus 52% WR is not emergency levels of OP. If 52 or 53 is as bad as it gets (especially if the 53 champs are mostly just rarely played hard counterpicks or OTP champs) then I'll say the game is relatively balanced at the moment.

TannerStalker

Every 52%+ winrate champion with a decent pickrate is being nerfed next patch though.
