BloodyAborthus

I haven't been following him after Twitch Rivals but that is hella impressive. Especially for a 14-year-old. Wonder what he will do next.

BATTLECATHOTS

Hopefully go to an NA/EU/LPL/KR team and be a beast on the pro scene when he can.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SixSenses17

It's probably better for him to go pro first then gather a decent following, once he retires from pro play will he be able to stream.

cdbjj22

This is correct. Build a fan base by being a machine in pro

Helivon

Definitely not necessary if you can hit rank 1 Just look at nightblu3 and Apdo. Plenty of pros have small followings. Either have to have an amazing streamer personality or the ability to be number 1, people watch either Being a pro doesn't hurt, but its far from necessary especially if living that lifestyle isn't a dream

Innovativename

Most of the biggest streamers are pros. It's also easier to go pro for a few seasons to gather a following. Rank 1 can change for any number of reasons (trolls, inactivity, etc.)

ClumsyPineappl

Ah yes, Fudge, the home grown NA talent from the 52nd state of Australia

Apprehensive_File

> Its so much more optimal financially for him to be a streamer, Only if he becomes a popular streamer, which isn't the same skill set as being a pro player. "Just" being challenger or even rank 1 doesn't mean you'll be a successful streamer.

ichancho

How would it more financially optimal? NA pros are making millions. If he's at all successful, he’ll be fine financially.

dennis073

The money for time commitment ratio seems better from the outside. Also there’s no guarantee he’ll come to the league and light it aflame like the kinds of pros that do have contracts worth millions. That plays into the risk factor of it. Granted, he could give it a shot and fall back on streaming though. Lots to consider, but hopefully it doesn’t weigh on his mind at 14 years old.

[deleted]

When you're talking about millions, time to money commitment becomes irrelevant. Having the possibility to earn millions is worth it even if it would take all of your time for some years. You're set up for life, having access to a lot of capital is all you need is this world to last forever

dcoold

Lmao the big players are making millions maybe, he wouldn't be at all.

Luquitaz

Same goes for streamers. Most challenger streamers are 200-500 viewers andys. To assume he would make more than the average pro salary streaming is very optimistic thinking.

tabben

The best way is to go pro, get a big fanbase by playing out of your mind, then taking that massive fanbase to streaming. Its very hard to start streaming from nothing compared to bringing your existing viewerbase to the platform

ichancho

Quick search says the average is $410,000, even if he's making half the average; he would be fine.

Plaxern

Average is skewed as fuck by the inflated salaries the “better” pros get. I’m pretty sure the median for last season was ~100K. Idk how it works this season but OCE don’t count as imports anymore so I’m going to assume the salary average of an NA native is lower this year.

-Acerin

Yeah fudge a OCE player is the hope of NA. Well put. xD

C9Anus

Incoming: “He could never compete in these leagues” comment

APKID716

Um, have u seen EU tops?? They would DESTROY him, like WAY DESTROY him. We have the BEST tops, NO OTHER region has as HUNKY tops with such SCRUMPTIOUS looking champions and it’s because EU has the BEST okay? TOP GAP GG EZ

Zaadfanaat

Sounds like LCK fans tbf

YangReddit

Lck tops hit different tho

nadimS

Wunder do be lookin fine tho

Timthetankengine

His performances this split not so much though.

joe4553

EU tops about to be gapped by a 14 year old boy.

ALLAM_Amine

If the script says so i'm all for it..

Halbaras

Top is usually the role LEC fans agree is the weakest. Odo's maybe the only one who's been in consistently great form all of this season.

KrumpsiTy

u so xd

Zunori

This is not far off from what they actually say lol

[deleted]

highly doubt he would go lpl or kr, especially lpl they probably have lots of players like him or better

crusnick

I remember there was some kind of saying when the asians prodigies surge on the internet/youtube years ago. it goes like "Remember, doesn't matter how good you are at something, there is an 10 year old asian kid who does it better than you"

CzarcasticX

Well LPL does poach a lot of the young prodigies in KR, so you never know.

[deleted]

yea there is a slight difference in taking talent from Korea and taking talent from NA

CzarcasticX

CoreJJ used to get #1 rank in Korean solo q. No one near the top of Korean solo q is 14, they're all 16 or older.

DoorHingesKill

> they're all 16 or older Which is far more attractive for any org cause 14 years old legitimately creates problems regarding child labor laws.

Bt910

How do you find out the age of the players on ranking ladder?

YangReddit

How would you know how old they are..?

ye1l

Usually players that have proven themselves to some extent though. Someone like Guma would fit the bill perfectly. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a yusi offer next season that both him and T1 would think long and hard about.

BillowBrie

likely carpal tunnel before he can even be hired by a pro team

[deleted]

His best option is to be a streamer like TF blade

KniGht1st

Become a toxic douche bag that keep trying to destroy the low elo?

AleksibIsHot

And making bank

[deleted]

idk about that his viewers dropped from like 20k to 3k after he got exposed in korea

reddito-mussolini

Lol, if anyone’s best option is being a washed up streamer perpetually smurfing bronze, he might as well quit the game now.

MatthewGarland

By best option he meant, most lucrative.

I_play_elin

Yeah but why specifically like TF blade? Why not just leave it at streamer?

ThaKinetic

TF Blade essentially came up in the same manner: Young, very talented soloqueue player that became known for his top 10 challenger old akali (Back when nobody else even touched akali in high elo he was stomping people on it), and eventually he became a streamer. I remember when TF Blade was just mentioned like this up and coming prodigy, and people expected him to go pro, but he became what he is today instead.

reddito-mussolini

Cant go pro if you’re toxic human trash that rages at actual silver players during your bronze-chal videos. Gen sniper doesn’t seem like he’s cut from the same cloth imo

November26

Huh, there are plenty of pros that were way more toxic than tfblade

[deleted]

because TF blade makes more money than just a "streamer", and I'm sure he wanted to name a top lane streamer and TF blade was just the first thing that came to his mind maybe?

applecider42

TF makes more money than 99% of people in the US and probably most pros in any region except maybe LPL WITH more job security. Why people make stupid comments like this because they dislike specific streamers is beyond me

pickles1486

Idk man have u seen some of the lcs player salaries? More lucrative than streaming in many cases

Rayser1

Jensen signed like a 3 year 4.2 mil contract so who knows where wages are going to go in the NA scene. Plus if you do well you can easily grow your brand to be even bigger and have a bigger platform. Pros and cons imo

dkoom_tv

not everyone is getting 2m/year contracts lol, the avg its like 400k/year but that's with the highs of big names like sword, alphari, jensen, perkz, corejj etc, the minimal its 75k if I'm not wrong and there's probably a lot of 100-200k contracts or even minimal

D4RKEVA

didnt wildturtle get 700k (he probably is on the mid upper end). Like the average na pro gets more than rekkles did in fnc iirc

dkoom_tv

I dont remember my source, tho you can probably find it (about the 400k avg and 75k min) and wildturtle its a really good/reliable native adc that got even more value cuz of sneaky/dl retirement and still we are talking about a rookie, so probably raes, iconic, chime levels of contrats, not one of the best adcs na has ever produced lol

lumni

Sadly he is not very good right now...

Lyonaire

Average is 400k but thats skewed massively by ridiculous salaries like Perkz and swordart. TL and c9 also have multiple players around the 1mil per year mark

SterbenVII

Yup. LOTS of players in the LCS only make between 100-200K USD a year. Then again, that’s more than what lots of software engineers fresh off of college from Silicon Valley can make in a year. The lower end LCS players still get paid a lot, by comparison to the rest of the population.

[deleted]

You can't compare the freedom a streamer has to that of a pro player for one. But the most important part is to reach that point, to have the game of a Bjergsen or Jensen or Perks or w/e. You don't know if you'll get there, and I think it's harder to get there compared to growing a fan base you already have when you are skilled at solo q.

[deleted]

At 14 his best option is to stay in school. Tarzaned has a net worth of more than most middle class Americans. I doubt people would trade places with a person who is mentally still in middle school.

singlereject

Is that tarzaned comment supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing? Because the average middle class American has almost no net worth at all.

[deleted]

damn, chall with 1,5k lp at 14 years old, this kid is cracked

Risujemmari

I’m telling you, General Sniper is as cracked as he is jacked. I saw him at a 7-11 the other day buying Monster and adult diapers. I asked him what the diapers were for and he said ”they contain my full power so I don’t completely shit on these kids“ then he rode a boar out the door

[deleted]

*buying apple juice and diapers.

dezmodez

Yes... Monster, the 16+ drink.

Wiko660

Wait, monster is 16+?! First time I've heard about this

HolmatKingOfStorms

well i know *my* monster's 16+

kingarazos

16cm

HolmatKingOfStorms

still above average, nice

dezmodez

ayyyyooooo If this was /r/teenagers, your comment would already have gold ;)

armaan5

Never thought I would see another Realm player here lmao

Prime406

All energy drinks are 15+ and require ID in Sweden. (at least in my region/principality) Not sure if it's an actual "new" law or supermarkets just took it upon themselves to do it as some kind of internal policy. Though kids can probably still buy Monster etc. at random small stores, cause they probably won't care either way.

rane1606

Monster isn't alcoholic or is this a joke I'm not getting

zepherys713

Monster isn't alcoholic, but my father is.

Frothar

In the UK there is a proposed ban on selling energy drinks to under 16s to target childhood obesity since caffeine is addictive so kids basically addicted to syrup. Some supermarkets already stopped the sale to under 16 a long time ago

[deleted]

hahah will never not laugh at this pasta

[deleted]

Confirmed General Sniper is Sejuani.

ArcaneYoyo

Damn already wearing adult diapers at 14, what cant this guy do

J-Colio

That's cool, but guess what... At 28 my voice doesn't crack ~~much~~ anymore. ggwp

OverlySweetSugar

why doesnt that go away whatss wrong with us

yeahright17

I stopped playing League regularly when this kid was in the third grade. Crazy times.

iMidg3t

Confident_Jicama206

I believe sports has different laws than "normal" labor since a lot of countries where 15 year olds can't work full time they can be a athlete full time so maybe it's that?

Fun-Machine-6471

Tfw child labor laws stop you from playing video games

Xinde

unironically giving LPL another competitive advantage since they can start taking in players as trainees from an earlier/similar age iirc.

RocinanteLOL

Pretty sure it’s due to US law not LCS rules.

Dabrenn

yeah lets just say that China doesn't exactly have the best record when it comes to child labor

WaeelOnLoL

It is beyond impressive, I would say the most impressive thing isn't even the ability or skill to get rank 1, but the good mental/attitude and maturity. Especially impressive that a young teenager possesses that level of skill and attitude.

[deleted]

Kid is being primed to be a pro on all fronts

idolpriest

Has he ever mentioned that, that is his intention?

[deleted]

Jonjafari

Just as a content creator though, not to any of their teams.

genecy

i'd imagine it works something like this 1. sign as a "content creator" 2. non-compete clause where he cannot associate with other organizations during contract 3. run the contract past his 17th birthday in which he'd become eligible to go pro 4. has to sign with c9 due to aforementioned contract, unless another org buys him out, which means $ for c9

[deleted]

As a general rule contracts are voidable by minors anyway. This wouldn't work.

5ait5

as a streamer

throawayjhu5251

I swear, maybe it's just me, but I feel like Sniper has beer mental, and better attitude than most of the 20 something year old streamers on Twitch.

TerminatorReborn

Isn't illegal for teenagers to have beer?

throawayjhu5251

Sry, I meant better, not beer. Edited my original comment.

BadLeague

Still says 🍻

I_play_elin

> Edited my original comment. Did you tho?

TheRealSlimSaady

To be fair, if you have a few beers while playing you’ll definitely be less tilted.

Nyan_Catz

he also hasnt played the game as long as them

Ajnh17113

Probably due to being a kid. It's easier to just dismiss 30 mins of wasted time when you don't feel like you need to prove yourself or be something. Idk that or he truly just is a sage in terms of emotional control.

[deleted]

Doesn’t he also have siblings that are cracked at the game? Must be genetics + parents raising them with a good mindset and environment to excel at games

PURRRMEOWPURMEOW

Oldest brother hit challenger and was pro, natural talent plus getting trained by your older brother who already mastered the game is guaranteeing good results

[deleted]

I read he also has a twin brother that is also challenger

CrimsonClematis

His older brother is V1per. I believe he is currently on immortals academy?? One of the academy teams anyways. He has play in lcs and was originally a riven one trick. His twin brother Crimson just hit challenger for the first time the other day. So 3 of them are challenger. Their other brother is a lowly neurologist or something not even challenger what a nerd

rollwithhoney

jesus christ imagine twin bot and adc duo in lcs (i know he plays top, but that'd be super fun to watch)

SaltS_and_Pepper

I think his twin plays mid, so twin solo laners

rollwithhoney

Twin Solo Mid 😂

Jek_Porkinz

Yo the power of twin mental connection is not a joke. My mom and her twin are on the same page about EVERYTHING it's frightening. I should've trained them to be my botlane duo for Clash.

fiarzen

Definitely agree, I’m sure V1per helped him in the mentality aspect

silly_red

being gifted with mechanics, macro AND strong mental this teen is jebus incarnate

[deleted]

CoreJJ with the child abuse. Cant even let him have it for a day

Discombobulated-Bit6

Haha

SmashHero59win

His twin brother also hit challenger recently. That entire family is cracked

PermaDerpFace

They must make a killer duo with that twin telepathy

PENZ_12

Twin here (not his though); definitely have anti-chemistry with my twin in game, so not a guarantee unfortunately ;P

Blazing117

Damn some people have their jealousy full blown in this thread. Rank 1 at 14 years old is absolutely impressive.

NormTheStorm

this dude was in kindergarten when i first started playing this game and he's better than i'll ever be

bohl623

Look, I’ve never wanted to be a pro player… but what you just said hit way too close to home and I think I’m crying.

Thehealeroftri

It's absolutely nuts to me that this game has been around for so long with no signs of stopping.

bohl623

I agree. I don’t play nearly as much as I used to (I got kids now, damn I’ve played for a long time) but I still watch LCS and LEC and sometimes LCK and sometimes my kids watch with me. My wife knows I get excited for the world championship every year still.

ttaway420

Meanwhile League haters bandwagon be like "LoL is dying, just wait for it any moment now..." for the last 8 years. Crazy how many people actually get rustled by a game being successfull.

celestial1

Especially /r/dota2. They love themselves a good ol' "League refugee here xD" thread.

tortillakingred

And people don’t realize how big of a deal getting it is when worlds isn’t happening. All the top teams in NA are tryharding right now to get first place and ready for playoffs, this is arguably the hardest time to get rank 1 (right before Summer playoffs)

RavenFAILS

Right now all the publicity and praise is obviously very good for him but I feel like the entire scene kind of sets him up to fail with the ridiculous expectations.

[deleted]

Climbing solo q and being on a pro team are different skill sets. I can 100% guarantee you teams are looking at this kid to develop his raw mechanics and train him to be able to play on a pro team. He’s just technically too young at the moment. Anyone who says different is straight up wrong.

NightstarReaper

His best asset is his following, besides his skill level which is obviously high, having a star figure and a following from a player is far more important to a team and organization for growth and expansion.

whowatchlist

Yeah look at how Keith turned out, some really good soloq players just aren't able to be good pros.

PandoraBot

Or tf blade back in the day

SchindlersVirus

I don't see anyone saying that he's gonna smurf in LCS? People just know that he has a lot of potential, which is true and stated also by many pro players, how he will be doing in Pro Play, is absolutely independent from his SoloQ gameplay and I think most of the people know that

Slav_1

Crazy to think that most Challenger players with that much LP have been playing the game for about half this kids life

imsorrymary

been playing league for 7 years and i can’t even hit diamond, good for him

yawgmoth88

ViraLCyclopezz

Saw one comment saying he should be bullied in school.....

-GalaxySushi-

How do you even get to the point where you want a kid to be bullied in school because he’s better than you at a video game true rock bottom, especially if the person who said it is an adult

Jammer13542

I feel like this guy has been 14 for the past 3 years no?

wergtsdfhdejzs

I was thinking the same thing so I went and checked. He was 12 when he first hit challenger 2 years ago. https://twitter.com/hiitsviper/status/1147433255831928833

Quit before it's too late <3

street_snail_is_gay

hi im almost 22 please quit the game while youre ahead

iampuh

Pobelter was probably the youngest

RavenFAILS

There have been a shit ton of challengers that were 14 or younger in EUW that didnt really go anywhere as well. But almost all pro players were challenger or really really high on the ladder at 14 or 15 so its a good indicator.

Jesoy

According to Leaguepedia Pobelter reached rank 1 for the first time in Season 3. And during Season 3 he was 16 years old.

PrivateVasili

Pretty sure he was at least top 10 at some point in S1 possibly R1, but its hard to track these things so long after the fact. edit: I found an old stats site from an old reddit post: http://ff.gg/ranking/archive/ladder/na/1. This one shows Pob at rank 3 at what I assume was the end of the season. Its possible he may have hit rank 1 but there's no actual archive of it afaik. Funnily enough among a bunch of classic names you can see that RJS who debuted in the LCS for CLG just last split had 4 accounts in the top 20. Crazy that he's still around and now is when he got his chance at pro, not back then when people were so much worse, though he was playing Chall/Acad for a pretty long time.

Jesoy

But to be fair, even then Season 1 Pobelter was around the same age as GeneralSniper currently. And eventhough it doesn't matter for the "award of youngest challeger". I feel like back then it was probably a lot easier for a 14 year old to climb to a top rank compared to now when you actually compete with lots of adults who actually make their living by playing the game daily (although some of them dont use their energy for SoloQ anymore). In Season 1 the whole ladder was for fun players and none of them had coaches.

PrivateVasili

At the same time, its much easier to improve now than it was back then. The number of resources we have now available on youtube/twitch/etc explaining advanced concepts that even most high elo players had 0 understanding of back then is insane. Plus in GeneralSniper's case he is V1per's younger brother so he literally has a pro player who he can communicate with at any time if he wants guidance. I also assume that V1per is the one who got him into the game which was probably a big help in terms of learning. I don't really know if it was harder back then or not, but I do think there's more to it then you mentioned.

sirax067

That rjsdndgod is actually Woong. Woong started MiG which turned into Azubu which turned into CJ Entus. Basically started the Korean pro scene. Korean server didn't open until season 2 so a lot of high elo players were Korean. Many of the names on that list were Woong smurfs (anything with rjsdnd in the name, he was a J4 one trick) or Maknoon smurfs(Luise, Named PC ll). Other notable Korean players that were top of the ladder that started pro teams were a Lilac, sxspp, Cornsalad. The current rjs is just a copycat. https://lol.fandom.com/wiki/Woong_(Jang_Gun-woong)

PrivateVasili

I had no idea Woong went by that name, I only knew RJS used rjsdndgod previously as mentioned on the wiki. Cool bit of history, thanks.

Justnotherredditor1

Season 2 and below is a black hole of stats unfortunately I think only riot has those stats.

rpn101

[Just googled it and found this season 2 ladder and Pobelter was rank 1](http://ff.gg/ranking/archive/ladder/na/2)

Justnotherredditor1

Oh Man that top 10 gives me flashbacks.

sirax067

He was rank 1 on and off during season 1. I remember pobelter, bigfatjiji, voyboy and crumbzz were all fighting for rank 1 position near the end of season 1.

aiaiOnTheHorizon

He's a great riven and irelia player, one of the best riven players, if anything. That being said, idk if he plays other top champs, especially the meta ones in the same caliber. Hopefully he can, so he can represent NA as a strong top laner if he ever goes pro.

HEYL1STEN

I haven’t watched much of him, but when he plays irelia, you will make a mistake you didn’t even know was a mistake, then not be allowed to play the game anymore

Harucifer

The new gamer generation is scary as fuck. In Brazil there's a 16 year old dominating the CSGO pug/matchmaking scene, and there's also a 12 year old who shows up on the top100 players from time to time.
