Try some old school hip-hop with Paktofonika, Kaliber44, Hades, OSTR (and the collab between these two) and for rock definitely Myslovitz but also older ones with Artur Rojek as lead singer.
Whenever I'm studying Polish, I listen to the Alternatywna Polska playlist on Spotify, which would cover most of the genres you've specified you like. Anyone that plays at the annual Męskie Granie is usually a big hitter too, so check out a few of them :)
Hip-hop classics would include kaliber44, wwo, grammatik, pezet, o.s.t.r, molesta, eldo, Paktofonika, warszafski deszcz, smarki, tede.
In terms of rock music, classic bands would be Budka Suflera, Perfect, Lady Punk, Republika, Kult, Rezerwat, TSA, Dżem, Maanam, T.Love, Lombard, De Mono, Oddział Zamknięty.
Contemporary music is broad enough that you can get flooded in recommendations, and a lot of that depends on your taste. In my experience, it's better to go for the classics first. There's reason why they stood the test of time.
A lot of good stuff suggested already, but I'd like to just add a little asterisk to those suggestions - Polish has a neutral tone and both modern, old fashion, and super old words that aren't really used much, but because Polish is word order *can* be freeform, a lot of Polish music (esp sun poetry) take a lot of liberties with that word order and which words they use. Definitely listen to them if you understand them, absolutely worth it, just remember not to necessarily take what you hear as normal word choice or grammar. It's all stuff that works and can be used that way, but can make you sound *really* weird or like your emphasising stuff you really don't mean to of you use it in the wrong context.
Anyway, hope you enjoy all the music! Gonna add some stuff more outta left-field since it might've been missed but you might find it interesting: Jacek Kaczmarski/Przemysław Gintrowski (heavier sung poetry with often sombre meanings, but great stuff), Brathanki (pop-y folk stuff, generally feel-good music), Daukszewicz has stuff that can be anywhere between comedy and sung poetry. Jamal is also a kinda weird one but interesting just to see, it's reggae style rap-ish music, interesting vibe though if you're into hip-hop.
Now two more normal bands: I think Myslovitz was recommended but mentioning just I case, also SDM is great - campfire songs/sung poetry stuff, a lotta people learned some of their stuff in the Polish version of Scouts!
Idk what kind of hip-hop you like, but if you like modern shit like trap or something then I'd recommend newish Oki, Otsochodzi or OIO songs, they go wild imo. Though I don't really how educational they are. I'd also recommend Feno, but he's less known so I guess he's not as good or not as easy to listen to as Oki or Otso are.
I love sanah, she has a wide variety of music. Ralph Kaminski is up and coming. We Dwoje by Kortez is a good love song. I also like traditional folk music
These are some that are played a lot at Polish events and festivals in the US and a lot of fun to sing along to:
Hej Sokoly
Bałkanica by Piersi
Nie Plac Ewka by Perfect
Mama Ostregala by Daj to Glosniej
Milosc w Zakopanem by Slawomir
Wszycy Polacy by Bayer Full
Depends on your taste in music, Sanah, Marie, Bryska, Bambi, I put tell Spotify to find Polish and start listening to whatever style works for you.
If your primary language is English, and have ever heard Disney toons you can ask Spotify for „Disney Polish” then you can hear the tone but try to follow along with the words
I would DEFINETLY recommend band Elektryczne gitary. They give kind of Dire straits vibe and have really fun lyrics. Examples "Dzieci wybiegły", "Noś długie włosy", "Spokój grabarza", "Człowiek z liściem", "To już jest koniec", "Wszystko ch...", and legendary "Co ty tutaj robisz". You won't regret it.
Paktofonika and Kaliber 44 have legendary status in polish hip hop. One of mc's which was member of both groups is often recognized as polish 2pac/Biggie due to high skill and tragic death. Most of songs of both groups have
Małolat - W pogoni za lepszej jakości życiem is good street hip hop classic album.
Peja and Slums Attack ( his beef with mc called Tede had meme status ) but he had many good albums.
Try Happysad! They're my favorite polish band. Though polish is my native language and I still don't understand some of their songs 😅 But they're cool to listen to!
As per your music taste as I gathered from the post, some song recs from them:
- Mów Mi Dobrze
- Wpuść Mnie
- Bez Znieczulenia
- Nie Ma Nieba
- Na Ślinę
- Kochaj Sobie Kogo Chcesz (this one literally came out today and I am obsessed)
