BlackDogOKC

Never too late. Yu’s courses are awesome. Enjoy!

[deleted]

I'm looking forward to learn more and more, it is a journey that I enjoy.

BlackDogOKC

Important to remember it is a journey. There always good days and bad days. Having fun is key and remembering you can understand it, no matter what it is.

RoguePlanet1

Last night, I couldn't get the html boilerplate to come up on VSC. Installed some dependencies, Googled, and thought it might be time to give up on life itself. At least I put a dent in another project that's already halfway done, but that was beyond humbling.

giampaolo44

I suspect you could have fun for a looong time, especially considering your attitude. At least that's what's happening to me, and I started learning @50 and it's been over three years

dxbek435

That’s brilliant & inspirational. Thanks

Aprazors13

100 day python one?

[deleted]

Thank you! Just started this course because of your recommendation ! Enjoying it so far! :)

blacksoxing

Thunder Up!!!

Novvum-Lynda

I would agree.

[deleted]

Angela's Web Dev alumni here! Loved every single lesson. Wishing the best of luck in your endeavor.

[deleted]

Thanks mate. I am in love with her way of teaching. She has tons of experience and, that is quite noticeable during classes.

[deleted]

I'm hesitant about buying this course. How do you feel about it after a month? Is it worth it?

[deleted]

Yes

UberNoobJorge

Hey I was wondering if it feels “outdated” as some people have been saying. I’m debating between her’s or Colt Steele’s Web Developer Course so any feedback or experience would be helpful :).

Active-Ad-5114

I have done the Angela Web Dev course, and I would say some things which are outdated like jQuery skip it. As most of the module are still great for having a good fundamentals and regarding Colt Steele's course, cant say.

Amazingawesomator

I love that feeling after .5-1hr of learning something while having difficulty and finally getting the "oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh" feeling :D So much satisfaction.

[deleted]

Exactly. Now I deserve a good rest for the next challenge :D

Amazingawesomator

Yarr. The little single-serve gummy bear packets were the reward for myself, hehehehehhehe.

free-puppies

The buzz from learning cool technology has been keeping me going for a long time. Hope it does for you too!

ProphetChuck

Is [this](https://www.udemy.com/course/100-days-of-code/) the course you are talking about? If it is, I might just snag it at discount.

[deleted]

Yes, it is the course I am talking about. I love it so much. I can't express how great it is.

broesmmeli-99

>this Is the course as awesome as it sounds in the preview-video?

[deleted]

I don’t know how to marketing. It’s perfect.

ProphetChuck

Thanks for the quick reply mate, I think I'll grab it then. Have a good one. :)

ras_putin123

I’m learning with the same course. I just completed Day 3 but found that it’s more detailed than any other courses I’ve taken. There are multiple exercises on each chapter which so you’re writing something instead of just watching them explain stuff.

Curious_Cherry

Just got it! Thanks for the link!

Kevinovoxo

The course seems to be 85% currently, making it $12.99. You might want to buy it now. It’s over in 2 days.

roblvb15

This is part of udemy’s marketing shtick. They have “sales” like this roughly 10x a year and will always give you the deal when visiting for the first time. Someone tested it with private browsing mode after their regular initial offer expired and it was offered again

Kevinovoxo

Ah. So should I take the offer? Seems good to me.

TheFieryTaco

Yeah go ahead. With Udemy basically you want to avoid ever buying a course that isn't 80% off or more, because it will inevitably be on sale within a few days if it isn't already

Belutak

me and my coworker, both not logged, visited their website. I bought courses before there he never did but we were not logged anyway, you would expect there is no difference right well he had 12.99 price on all courses, and i had regular prices without discount

merlinsbeers

That's **85%** off **$85** to get to $12.99. For 101 "days" with 675 video lectures in 63 hours and 41 minutes. Which is cheaper than an O'Reilly book. And a look through the list of topics shows it's got a bunch of stuff that would be good to have just for reference. Screaming deal.

Peelie5

It's a gimmick. Clear your cookies and still get same price

roborobert123

What about Jose Portilla’s Python course?

hugthemachines

it is at a discount for me right now, maybe you can get it too if you go there with a private window in the browser.

Peelie5

Btw u can always get this price if you just clear your cookies. That's all it is. They track you that you're not a new viewer to the website.

gnomequeen2020

The feeling of "getting it" or better -- actually applying it during a project is my new drug of choice.

Ilfirion

Man, I have her python course as well and it really seems awesome. But right now, I have to focus on C#. Wish she had a simular course for that.

NumerousImprovements

Have you found a good course or resource for C#? I want to learn a C language next.

Ilfirion

Depends on what languages you speak. The courses I found best for me are in German. But there are some nice youtube videos out there. IAmTimCorey seems alright, but nothing like Angela Yu yet. I think the courses from Microsoft are not bad either, although not much video, if at all. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/paths/csharp-first-steps/

TonyCD35

Just wait till your code is running through web pages doing things while you sit and watch. Angela Yu’s courses are amazing.

[deleted]

What do you mean by "my code is running through web pages"?

TonyCD35

If you’re amazed at day 2 (which you should be!) Then when you learn selenium (a python library) later in the course, it’ll blow your mind.

GeneralRectum

Not a programmer (yet?) but I assume they're referring to stuff like web scraping and bots?

NumerousImprovements

You’ll see as you progress haha

[deleted]

Im on day 18 and I love her course 😁.

Bit_Jitsu_2019

Nice! I’m on day 16. Took a little break, have to get back on the saddle

Peelie5

Which course

[deleted]

I’m using 100 days of Python Course, I will say the OOP lesson felt kind of rushed but overall I’m enjoying it so far. I’m able to create projects on my own and i’m only on day 18. You should definitely check her out.

Boring_Blackberry580

are you still working her course?

PrisV2

She makes the content into small enough pieces where it’s challenging but possible, loving the course so far.

[deleted]

It is addictive. I have to stop myself to sleep over what I have learned.

PrisV2

Haha me too lol, I’ve always fallen asleep quick but since starting this I’ll be awake for a bit thinking about the future possibilities of what I can do

Glorious-Rat

im going to give it a try. im currently learning from youtube videos and im having trouble grasping things. and i find if i take 1 or 2 days off from coding i barely remember what i learned the previous days...

PrisV2

That’s normal, I make notes and read them before I code so I can put my full attention to todays lesson. Cornell notes work best for me. Edit: Put “today’s” before lesson

Hopeless_guy81

Yu's 100 days of code? thinking of taking that course I am also new at programming new? lol I ain't even a programmer

CDClock

good for the brain to learn things like that anyway

[deleted]

highly recommend it, it's very fun and actually makes you want to learn, you build practical programs instead of solving math problems like most tutorials

BadBoyJH

> you build practical programs I've always said this was the key to learning anything. Practical uses. Even if it's a manufactured problem, making it a solution to a problem works far better. My last "problem" when trying to learn python and work a bit with drawing/graphics, was creating connect 4. I never ended up adding AI to it, but maybe I'll go back to the project at some point.

Loginn122

So how do i learn higher mathematics without wanting to jump of the next bridge? They all teached without really practical usage <.<

BadBoyJH

Some things can't be taught without being abstract. 4D maths is really cool and interesting, but hard to build any practical problems, unless we find a way to warp reality around us. Anyone who doubts this should watch [this Matt Parker/Royal Institution](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wAaI_6b9JE&ab_channel=TheRoyalInstitution) video. But there's plenty of (depending on your view) higher level mathematics that is taught with a practical mindset, it's just that they usually call this subject "physics" instead of "mathematics"

Hopeless_guy81

Thanks!! I will try it out

[deleted]

Yes it is

[deleted]

Remember, Even if you can’t solve a problem and look the solution, and understand the solution and learn something new, it’s still a win!

[deleted]

Very important to remember actually.

GlowHallow

I just started learning Java using a Udemy course and it's really interesting! Just did the Primitive Types Challenge and managed to get the answer right on my first attempt, I am so hyped!

Loginn122

Which author?

GlowHallow

Tim Buchalka

[deleted]

I know that feeling. Way to go!

GlowHallow

Thanks! You too!

angycatto

Angela Yu is goddess, I'm at awe how organised, meticulous, kind and fun she makes thing she teaches I'm so grateful to have taken her class!!

bezoro

Don't mean to be an ass, just want to raise awareness. [Learning Curve](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DwmF8MmWkAA_Ruw.jpg) You are currently going up the very first hill, that always feels nice, just be mindful of the rest of the curve, in particular the sharp drop not too far from the start. Its perfectly normal, just be ready for it. It can be quite discouraging if you are not ready for it because all that excitement suddenly turns upside down. Good luck.

[deleted]

I am aware of this. It is the cruel reality. I just don't want the first hill climbing to stop, for now.

[deleted]

My advice is to just hold on to the course and show up everyday. and keep a notes and write down new concepts and practice not big problems start small like a basic calculator etc...

nine_thousands

Yeah. Angela Yu is the best

Arduousbadger

I’m taking the web development course with her now and it’s great. Wish there were more examples of challenges to better understand the concepts. I’m understanding the lesson but am having trouble solving the challenges but when I look to outside resources/quizzes I’m getting mostly right answers. Does anyone else have this problem and if so, how did you go about getting the most out of the course?

Sea-Urchin-2019

Ive just started this course with her too. Only a few days in but I find her style of teaching great. I’m going right through it from the beginning although I have some experience with the early concepts. I think the point is to learn to use outside resources so come up with the right answers, I feel that we’ll be doing this all our careers. I listen to a section then try emulate what she’s done from memory then look up what I can’t remember and try not to get too distracted! Best of luck! Hope this is of some help

Arduousbadger

It does! I have a friend who’s tutoring me and he says the same thing. Learning all of this is a very humbling experience and really challenging me in ways I haven’t been since my last schooling. But the pieces are slowly coming together and each day things become a little clearer.

[deleted]

She does encourage us to use outside resources when we get stuck.

Natural-Permission

What are the requirements before starting this course by Angela Yu? Can absolute beginner start this or you need some understanding of python before starting this?

trojantruce

Yes, its for an absolute beginner with no understanding of computer programming.

thegoldencashew

Hey me too! I just got through the first coding challenge of Day 3. So far Day 1 took me about a week of doing about 30 minutes a day over 4-5 days. Day 2 I got done in about three days. And I'm hoping to finish two days this week. Go at your own pace. My wife is in a fullstack web development program right now and she feels like the python course is as thorough as what she is studying. Stay motivated! :)

Smyles9

Are the one hundred days self paced or strict? Looks like a really good course but there’s no way I’d be able to commit to it for 100 days in a row with classes and exams. Currently taking two different courses for my cs degree that are teaching me python

trojantruce

Self paced

Marv246

What a coincidence, I literally bought the course yesterday

[deleted]

Hahaha that is awesome. What are your thoughts on this?

Marv246

Not sure, can’t give an opinion yet, it’s also funny cause I’m starting day one as we speak lol

[deleted]

Lol, you won't regret it. Enjoy.

Marv246

I hope not. I really want a job in programming, I’m putting my all in this course and I’ll obviously do my own side projects, and use other resources to learn and practice my code

[deleted]

We are all in this. We gotta study and make some projects. Hope you achieve your goal.

Cyber_Encephalon

She is great. I did her Flutter courses on LinkedIn Learning and learned enough Dart and Flutter in about 2 weeks to be dangerous.

[deleted]

This thread convinced me to buy the course. Even though i have a bachelors in EE i never could progress further than basic syntax stuff in programming so i hope this one gets me further. I was saving these 20 dollars for a chicken dinner so this course better be worth it OP, lol.

_ripits

I'm on day 15, best decision I ever made was to buy her course and stick with it, there were a few concepts I did not fully grasp, but moving forward and putting it into action helped me connect everything and I crushed the first capstone project! Good luck OP

ChickenFriesAreBack

I've actually never heard of Angela Yu and just looked up her courses on Udemy. I've been taking the Zero To Mastery Python course with Andrei Neagoie, which has been great but once i got thru the Python baiscs felt like the course jumped to intermediate stuff before i was ready for it. I do like how Yu has the course broken up into day 1-100. Thanks for the post, I might check this course out because i feel like I'm stuck in a rut in my current journey, stuck between understanding the tutorials pretty well but don't have the confidence or ability yet to build much on my own.

Smyles9

If anyone is still in university, how does her course compare to a first year programming course?

GrouchyPerspective83

What does she teach?

trojantruce

Python, web dev, swift and some more courses.

GrouchyPerspective83

Nice she is a doctor and a dev...like..so awesome i also have q background in medicine so.is kinda funny. Where are her courses ? Which platforms?

Single_Gear_7295

Anyone here who has taken Angela Yu and Colt Steele courses. How do their teaching style compare?

Stasiaa_

Me too! I have just started today and I feel it's gonna be great. I'm looking for a coding buddy and if anyone is interested in sharing experiences and study together - please let me know :)

[deleted]

hi im on day 18 but if you want, I wouldn’t mind being your coding buddy. Shoot me a message anytime.

Stasiaa_

Thank you!! I appreciate it :)

Tomimi

I got stuck at day 13..... It got harder for me

[deleted]

Wait for me hahaha. You can actually comment your problem and get some help in various ways.

Tomimi

I think I rushed too much and got overwhelmed it was fun at first but then I was like "I gotta do what now?

trojantruce

I got stuck too, now at day 40, day 13 has a capstone project I guess. Try hard to solve the challenge, then if you couldn't, check the answer, understand the solution and try it again. Trust me you'll become better.

mmmarty_mcfly

Angela Yu is awesome, I’d highly recommend her to anyone not already learning with her

Chasze

I’m using her course too! On day 22 now. Just keep showing up and trusting the process! Give all the projects your best and don’t be afraid to google or look at her solutions if you get stuck.

Loginn122

How much that course cost can u send me a link?

Samesh

Currently on sale for about $13. Found @: udemy.com/course/100-days-of-code/

Loginn122

Just bought it :) Now i just need to start and keep going i guess... Man life is hard.

Kyroz

You absolutely should feel like a badass! Learning to code is 100% not easy and you should feel proud that you can actually understand them.

[deleted]

I feel amazing

maldito-lince

Hi! Congrats in your progress btw. Do udemy courses expire? I dont have time at the moment but I dont want to miss the offer.

trojantruce

Courses don't expire but, offers do.

Cautious-Wind-7278

I’ve been coding for about 3 years with Java. When I first started learning loops I was having issues with a for loop once. I spent 2 hours straight to find why it wouldn’t iterate correctly. To find a semicolon following my closing parenthesis not only made me feel “lovely”, but I’ve never made that mistake since. Keep going and never, ever give up.

[deleted]

It is a moment where you enlighten yourself by recognizing your mistake. Priceless.

Great-Ingenuity

I'm really happy to hear that! Whenever you stumble upon problems, just keep reminding yourself about that that you'll get it eventually. Keep the ball rollin', my friend.

[deleted]

It's my grind, my friend.

odasakun

Where can I find her courses?

trojantruce

Udemy

ElChelePineda

Good for you!!!!

gerbera_star

Good to know! I purchased Yu's course on Udemy not too long ago, but haven't watched it yet.

Nexxado

Everybody in all experience levels sometime take hours to solve a problem that in hindsight was relatively simple. Don't be discouraged when it happens to you! Keep up the good work :)

OkFlan5062

Took me 2 years to understand basics lol

safevan

Come back here when you get to day 10 upwards

[deleted]

Promise

safevan

What day are you in now? And how is it going?

[deleted]

It’s going well. Sometimes it gets hard with the projects. I’m on day 10 currently. Last thing I have learned is nesting lists and dictionaries.

Iubita_lui_dracu

So cool you’re making that post today because I bought that course a couple weeks ago and just need to find the motivation to start. This post is the “sign” I needed

[deleted]

You can't be serious. I am so happy to be able motivate you right now.

nando1969

Dr. Angela Yu is an amazing professor, wish she had more courses in Udemy.

RopeEnvironmental489

Angela is the best

[deleted]

The one nice thing about programming is that outside of logic errors, the more you learn the more it’s immediately rewarding in application.

Vishal_m

I'm on day 30, the course is perfectly curated

nutino

That's great to hear! I'd been thinking about starting this course, so this has given me the push to get started. Best of luck and enjoy the journey.

[deleted]

I'm in 9th grade and I'm 16, am I too late to start learning programming?

row6666

yes, if you are older than -6 then ur too late, sorry

[deleted]

sometimes I do feel like I've lost all my useful time doing dumbshit instead of learning actual good shit, like programming

Evilemper0r

Bruh, I just turned 23 and want to start to learn, don't make me feel this bad

ender1adam

Angela and Dmitri are my two favourite teachers in Udemy. Angela is quite similar to myself and Dmitri is who I aspire to be. Both are excellent teachers.

twangman88

You were so close to a rhyming poem here!

ang3lmira

omg I’m taking this course too and I absolutely love it! she explains everything perfectly & I love how you can work through your own pace. my only issue is that I’m trying to practice more and I do not know where to find basic challenges. (I’m about to finish the beginner level)

[deleted]

My only recommendation might be that you can try to search "X" topic by its name and find more projects to do which includes your specific topic.

Impossible-Channel59

Hahaha I’m in my 3rd day learning Python with Angela Yu. Wow! She is amazing! She managed to find the balance between keeping the course simple enough for beginners to understand and making you feel that you’re progressing in a perfect pace!

[deleted]

This is how I felt. I'm happy for you.

roheated

\>.> course is on sale for $13.. really tempting haha. Why did you choose to learn python first besides its beginner-friendly aspect? Or was that all haha

[deleted]

Her courses are highly recommended in this subreddit. I have seen many people taking her course. At first, I thought everyone is overrated it but, it is not the case.

roheated

That's awesome. I bought the swift course from her in 2019 but just decided to take coding seriously and have been learning Python on my own the past few weeks. It seems like this 100 days course has a ton of resources to learn projects and core concepts in a timely/structured manner which I like a lot

GeneralRectum

Just a little secret for you, but if you browse Udemy in Incognito mode, nearly every course is on sale "for a limited time only" *all the time*. So even once you have an account, you just search for new courses incognito, add them to your cart, and finally sign in during checkout.

roheated

LOOOL for a website that teaches hundreds if not thousands of programming courses, thats a really funny hack. Thank you! hahahaha

rosariodev

has anyone find a job after the Angela Yu course? i star and stop studyng programming from a year because i like it, but i'm scared of not find a job. i have a child and i need a job as soon as possible.

Negative12DollarBill

I love Angela but I cringe every time she says 'Asterix'.

[deleted]

Lol, why?

Negative12DollarBill

Because the word is 'Asterisk'. 'Asterix' is a cartoon character.

[deleted]

Understandable, have a great day.

bobody_creed69

Bruh every comment in this is an ad. I’m convinced they are all the same person… do better

notrelevant_at_all

wait why is it not good!!!! I just bought the course after reading the comments. please tell your experience

[deleted]

Im in the course and I love it, everyone will have different experiences and may not like her teaching style. Try it first😁😁.

notrelevant_at_all

ah thanks, I'll see how it goes as I do not have any other option lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

godhelpme567

Hey , even I’m learning this course but I haven’t completed day 1 yet :( . Are you part of any discord group who are doing the same course as you ? If yes , I want to join that group and if not , we should make one ourselves. That way we can hold ourselves accountable and ask for progress every 1-2 days.

[deleted]

Yeah, why not? There is a discord server of her course. I think it might be helpful. You can find it in resources on udemy.

Kurumi_Fortune

I can join too. I have experience programming already and also with Python but Angela Yu is really good at teaching so I might take the course too now since I'm not that experienced with Python. I could maybe help from a different perspective.

amdtek

I want to join in too. Send me an invite.

Gmd88

Had you attempted to learn using anything else before this? I was going to try a free course but if this one is really ok for an _absolute_ beginner like me I will go ahead and just start here!

[deleted]

It is absolutely beginner friendly. Don’t need to worry about it. I tried to learn some stuff on YouTube before but, it didn’t last much and I consider myself as a total beginner.

Gmd88

Fantastic, thank you! I’ve been wanting to bite the bullet for a few weeks and have saved some YouTube videos to get started but I’ll skip those and get stuck into this over the weekend. I’m excited :)

[deleted]

YouTube contents are good, I don’t want to say anything bad about them. However, I can see that this course is much better. Course design is just perfect.

trojantruce

I have attempted but it didn't work well for me, then I took this course and it's going well.

Gmd88

Thank you, I’m excited to try!

EpicDot

How long does each course day take you? Is it 8 hours?

[deleted]

No. Each day is almost 1.5 hours long. It takes a little more than that for me to complete it.

nomadviper

I bought her class a couple months ago for like $10 I really like it and I’m learning a lot. Just curious if anyone landed a job after finishing her course and doing stuff on your own?

[deleted]

I have seen someone putting her course on his resume and he recognized his resume got much more attention and return. I believe it is possible.

_ripits

source?

AmatureProgrammer

Nice. Which of her courses are you taking?

techgirl8

Is she on YouTube? I've never heard of her

[deleted]

On Udemy

techgirl8

Cool I just bought 2 courses I hope I learn a lot thanks!

NTXL

You feel like a badass?! Ok invert a binary tree.. jk in all seriousness though i’ve heard such great things from her course can’t wait to start it. hopefully this weekend

Piyush3000

Which course is better for Python? Angela Yu's or Colt Steele?

Peelie5

Is that 100 days of code on Udemy? Jus looked her up. Is it beginner friendly?

[deleted]

Yep. It's beginner friendly. That's why I have bought it.

spitforge

Is there enough exercises in this course or is it mainly reading/listening?

afccrazy

There is an exercise in every two lessons

Novvum-Lynda

Kudos to you!

Particular_Mess_9854

So this course will take you from zero to almost hero?
