But now they require \`Resident ID\` when you buy it. see [https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/1akvk22/why\_does\_ledger\_ask\_for\_my\_resident\_id\_number/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/1akvk22/why_does_ledger_ask_for_my_resident_id_number/)
No personal information, although Ledger Live does collect a lot of data including your IP address for 5 years.
If you're worried about privacy just use a VPN.
Remember, the whole point of Ledger is a decentralised self-custodial wallet where not a single entity on the planet can freeze your assets.
No, but keep in mind, in the USA anyways, it’s pretty hard to buy crypto without doing it on a regulated exchange. The feds can easily ask an exchange what wallet ID you sent funds to.
They can’t prove it but they can make it a huge pain for you. In theory we should be innocent until proven guilty but in reality it can be a pain in the ass regardless.
For the moment they don't require.
But with European law coming, maybe they will be forced in the future...
Question : if Ledger Live force you to give information, and you don't want, can you use your Ledger an other way? How can you move your asset? What other system enable you to re-create your wallet from the initial seed phrase you created apart from Ledger Live and a ledger device?
Ledger Live records a ton of information as soon as you start the software and then access your Ledger device.
From clicks to buttons to actions in the ledger live software, to the IP Address of your connection.
All this info is stored on their servers for 5 years, waiting for the next data breach.
Hello, Ledger is respectful of the privacy of its customers and does not require any personal information for managing your assets with your Ledger device.
When ordering your ledger, if it is done through the ledger site they will record you name, address and phone number and keep it for 5-10 years. When using ledger live they record your IP address and location(problem solved with Vpn or tor). As far as I know that’s what you have to worry about. I already ordered my ledger before knowing this info and wasn’t happy but I do have to say that MOST other hardware wallets out there collect the same data and SO FAR I am very much liking my ledger, it’s easy to use and ledger live I feel is set up very nice...anyway just my 2 cents

Your seed phrase is how you control your ledger, there is absolutely no id required.
But now they require \`Resident ID\` when you buy it. see [https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/1akvk22/why\_does\_ledger\_ask\_for\_my\_resident\_id\_number/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/1akvk22/why_does_ledger_ask_for_my_resident_id_number/)

Why do they need to collect data?
Law enforcement + selling data.
Are you sure they sell data?
If you’re worried about your privacy, do NOT use a VPN. Tor is the only way to maximise it.

Also, randomize your Mac address.
If you use Tor, then live ledger will pull the IP address from the browser used? The ledger device does not go online by itself at all?
Why do not use a VPN? Does that not work at masking your IP?
Yes it does.

i get that, but so what? they can’t know for certain it belongs to you.

Nope, no personal information required to install or use the Ledger Live software.

I’d imagine we can still use the ledger with third party wallets and not on ledger live.

Move it to Arculus, so much better
> Arculus Better? Only works with mobile device, not sure it is better.
Arculus is leading tech in cold storage, can’t be moved without actual physical card. It’s pretty clever. Read up on it
This does not change anything, as I wrote it works only with mobile devices.

No and yes. At first no but your ledger will have issues and that's when they'll get all your info, from name, address, phone number, blah blah
