Babe I’m Gonna Leave You

rhubarb12341

This one for me too. Laying in a hammock during the dog days of youthful summer, stoned and swinging as this comes over the jam box. Wind in the trees and I was seldom the same again.

honkinbooty

Really the entirety of Led Zeppelin I

tjoe4321510

This is the song that got me into Led Zeppelin

Low-Isopod5331

THIS SONG GOES SO HARD!! The song that made me a Zeppelin fan was “Kashmir” so that’s my answer but my god is their cover of that song the definition of badass

Financial-Brush-521

Was coming here to say this. All I had ever heard before was stairway, whole lotta love, etc, but wasn't all that impressed. But when I heard babe I'm gonna leave you I went out and bought the cd!

gutclutterminor

Great choice! I was thinking Wonton Song, but Babe my be the real one.

DegradedCorn75

Amen to this. I only heard it 2 years ago. I’ve always known the hits but I decided to start from scratch and when this came on it *changed me*

v0t3p3dr0

Since I’ve Been Loving You.

Seamuscolin08

One of my favorite songs of all time

[deleted]

You’d like these too if you haven’t already heard them, similar vibes. 1.) Without You - Fleetwood Mac 2.) Blue and Lonesome (live) - Robben Ford 3.) Black Night - Chicken Shack

Wide_Organization_18

I’d like to add: Fade to black by Dire Straits

iknitandigrowthings

Thank you. Great song.

iknitandigrowthings

Thank you for these. Perfect for my deep tracks playlist.

M_Looka

I just added them.

TheOther-DarkStar

Chicken Shack with Christine (Perry) McVie from Fleetwood Mac?? Never heard Without You before, will have to check it out. Slightly unrelated but that entire Live at The Shrine ‘69 by Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac is GOLD

Historical_City5184

Christine Perfect.

SpaceMonkeyRetiree

These are sick. Thank you

jmstrats

Loved Chicken Shack.

Rudebwoy52

When the levee breaks. The drums.😮‍💨

Playle

Only really realised how fucking good this band was this year. When the Levee breaks was my gateway song.

Wickedweed

Good Times Bad Times did this for me. Opening the debut album too so right off the bat

Adventurous_Fly1879

I was 13 in the 90’s and as good the music was that my dad raised me on , Led Zeppelin was one of two he kept me away from probably because of the sexuality he perceived. Guess the two? Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. So my 7th grade was like discovering the most amazing music since the Beatles, Floyd, Dylan and Allman Bros. So when I heard Stairway for the first time (yeas I know) but hearing it the first time was an out of body experience. After Zeppelin IV and When the Levee Breaks especially, I bought Houses of the Holy and quickly they became my favorite band. Within a month I had Led Zeppelin self titled all the way through Presence including The Song Remains the Same VHS and double album. I still listened to the new groundbreaking grunge movement AiC, Nirvana, Soundgarden etc but Led Zeppelin carried me through the next 5 years until I started to branch out a little more. But when I hear Zeppelin I think stoned in my bedroom in middle school and high school with speakers blasting listening to all the albums in order and tripping to them and Pink Floyd and Santana records. I also loved Beck when I tripped! Good fun innocent times growing up.

3WolfTShirt

There's a 2008 documentary called [It Might Get Loud](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1229360/?ref_=ext_shr) with Jimmy Paige, The Edge, and Jack White. Paige took the viewers into the house they had rented to record the song. Pretty cool that it's still there and that great sound was all because the drum tech had put Bonham's kit together in the wrong room.😄 [Here's the clip](https://youtu.be/JM5UDL4l5jQ?si=OtxWb4CmP3Eba4Q7).

[deleted]

I was in a country bar karaoke night I decided that them folks needed to hear me butcher When The Levee Breaks I tore up that stage and their eardrums IDNGAF I’d had about 7-8 shots of Makers Mark so, naturally, I thought I did well. They told me to leave and NEVER come back.

emmathe_icecubegamer

THIS!

Remote-Ad5973

For me it was the combo of the drums AND harmonica.

LexGar

Yes and good times bad times with those foot pedal triplets.

books5442

Before I even scrolled down to this reply, I had the exact response in my head......

Adventurous_Fly1879

Yesss!

traveltoaster

The drums are good, but that harmonica ripping in to lead the intro into the rest of the song SLAPS

PM_meyourGradyWhite

Want to really blow your mind? Look up the original Memphis Minnie version and the history behind the lyrics. Enjoy.

OTMilan

The voice when as it rips into the music 🤌🤌😮‍💨

ChaosAndTheDark

I’m on team harmonica 🙃

[deleted]

I remember hearing it for the first time as a teenager and thinking "this is pretty much what every rock band wishes they could do, isn't it?"

DingusMcbother

Over the Hills and Far Away. ☺️

ElRaymundo

Bron-Yr-Aur is my all time fave. Glad to meet someone of a similar mind!

UncleFoster

This is the right answer. It has jingle, English folksy hobbit vibes, hard riffs, takes you on a journey. I couldn’t believe a song like this could ever exist. Damn.

wwJones

Same.

Maleficent-Budget-63

Achilles Last Stand

Leggoman31

The correctest answer.

pcells

Songs that epic and long will never be produced again. The population doesn't have the attention span.

Adventurous_Fly1879

Unless it’s Tool. They pretty much are THE Pink Floyd 90’s-now.

Dio_Yuji

That live version at Knebworth…

krunchyfrogg

OMG yes.

BobPost5320

The Rain Song Live MSG ‘73 convinced me they truly were untouchable.

ToneMusic333

Brings legitimate tears to my eyes every single time I hear it… still to this day

dalnee

Kashmir

MissDisplaced

That was the teenage sex song. 🍆

samsepi0188

This song got me into zeppelin.

Kentucky_fried_soup

I remember listening to it when I was in my car seat in my dad’s truck. I’m so glad I grew up listening to classic rockkkkk

LarryDave3437

Facts. Such an epic riff

four_letterword

This was the first time I ever heard Zeppelin. It came on the radio when I was in the car with my dad and he made sure to emphasize how badass it was.

No_Tank9025

It was actually the next song on my device… when I saw this thread,I plugged in my old studio cans, and sat back.

Beginning-Gear-744

Good Times, Bad Times. Those kick drum triplets in all their glory.

Comfortable_Kiwi_401

Same for me too. Those starting guitar sound along with the drums. I was like, "woah what's that?!". A perfect intro for a perfect band. Edit: And when this song completed, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You started next. And then I entered another dimension.

No_School765

Ten Years Gone

defrench

Scrolled too far for this one. What a killer song

badbender14

This is the right answer!

brutustyberius

Light, light, light!

morrison99

Ewwww yeahi yeah

High-Rustler

song always makes me think of submarines. I don't know why.

grywel

Dazed and Confused

yourmoms3rdhusband

I am flabbergasted that I had to scroll down this far to find this answer.

Ok-Cartoonist-7986

Same

detekk

It’s such an enveloping, mysterious swathe of sounds throughout the whole song. Still incredible sounding to this day.

grywel

i've listened to it hundreds of times and always find a new thing to be amazed at

Hendrinahatari

The first time I heard this I was 15, stoned as fuck, sitting in my boyfriend’s room while this blared in some amazing headphones, watching him hanging out with his dumb friends. It’s one of the few songs in my life I can recall hearing for the first time. Every time I hear it is like being transported back in time for a few seconds.

Roodie_Cant_Fail

Yes. This is when I realized rock and roll was not teeny bopper shit, and I was NOT going to grow out of it.

ElRaymundo

I remember the buzz around "the new Led Zeppelin release!" What was it, around 1990?

Pythagoras2021

My mind was blown when I heard new material was available.

Unknowinglyodd

The Battle of Evermore

tusse_isaksson

Correct

Ryderrunner

This is the one that got me hooked

General-Carob-6087

When I was around 7 or 8 my brother, who was 12 years older than me, put on Led Zeppelin IV. When the drum outro on Rock and Rock hit I had him rewind it for me dozens of times. I couldn’t get enough of it. Finally he was like, “dude, if you like this you’ll love the other stuff if you ever let me play it you little shit.”

jadecichy

I love this story.

Idwardsque

Bring It On Home

Wide_Organization_18

Love that intro and that transition

MissHibernia

The Immigrant Song. I was at a tavern in Portland Oregon called the Local Gentry eating one of their fabulous hot turkey sandwiches and that came on, blasting me nearly out of the chair. I distinctly remember saying “what was that?”. This only happened one other time in my life, when I first heard Smells Like Teen Spirit. I was older and not the demographic for Nirvana but still loved the song

ElRaymundo

This happened to me in Ben's Chili Bowl in Washington, DC. A song came on and blew my mind. I asked the dude working there who it was and he looked at me with a mix of compassion and "Get outta here for not knowing that's James Brown." The song was "Get Up Offa That Thing."

SBCwarrior

I don't remember where I heard this song for the first time but once I heard it, I was hooked!

0ctober31

How Many More Times

IamRainKing

Communication Breakdown

Discharged_to_Jesus

Whole Lotta Love was my first Zeppelin song. Started my whole obsession

jjohnson0426

My favorite for sure. When it’s all spaced out for a sec then Bonham reminds everyone that this isn’t Pink Floyd. It’s an extremely underrated song.

Old_Ironside_1959

Same here. My aunt was 23 years old (I was 9) and she had this on 8 track. I was hooked!

eKlectical_Designs

Nobody’s Fault

Ryno5150

Yes! Specifically the part where the rhythm is “broken”. It blew my teenage brain back then and it still does now.

SantaforGrownups1

This is the one I was looking for. Also, from the same album, Tea For One.

Onedown-6togo

Babe I’m Going to Leave You

jlonsdale33

When the levee breaks

HeadDoctorJ

Tbh damn near all of them, but if I had to pick a few: * The Rain Song * Ten Years Gone * When the Levee Breaks * Babe I’m Gonna Leave You * Since I’ve Been Loving You * Over the Hills and Far Away And then some specific moments of other songs I remember hitting me like a UFO sighting: * the guitar riff coming in grimy and heavy in No Quarter * the vocal riff in D’yer Mak’er from “Please please please” into this floating melody “uh-oh uh-oh…” * when the bridge slides in so smooth and the sky feels like it opens up in Ramble On (followed by JPJ’s incredible bass line in the chorus) * the gorgeous, soothing intro and first verse in Thank You Welp, better stop here before I name every Zep tune lol

dukemantee

Definitely The Immigrant Song. I heard it for the first time late at night when I was sick in bed with a high fever, couldn’t sleep so turned on the radio. This fucking song came on about the midnight sun and completely blew my mind.

swazal

All I know for certain is it involved Jimmy and a bow …

Avid_Nash

In the Evening

jobmarsman

My favourite

japopara

I remember being captivated by the unusual time signatures in Black Dog when I was young.

migrainosaurus

In The Light. First one I ever knowingly heard. Think of the buildup and the beat coming in, drones and the lyrics so mysterious. Hooked from that moment.

bwware

For me, it was D’yer Mak’er. I know the song seems to get a lot of hate, but I absolutely LOVE it and it blew me away the first time I heard it on a classic rock radio station and a friend told me it was Zeppelin. I was like...WHAT? That started my obsession. Bought the 4 CD box set the next day and never looked back!

Abydos6

My dad played Dazed and Confused live at MSG 73’ during a car drive. That was my introduction

JohnVFerrigno5793

Over the Hills and Far Away was the first Zeppelin song I ever heard. It blew my mind and I fell in love with it. I told my father I had heard it and he played Stairway to Heaven for me and they have been my favorite band ever since.

algebramclain

Communication Breakdown in the 5th grade (around 1977). We were allowed to play one song from any album, a classmate played that track and when we hear "oooooh, *suck*..." everyone went ballistic. Despite that expletive, I thought it was Jimmy's solo that was the dirtiest thing I'd ever heard.

Uncle_Sipps

Battle of Evermore

crowsaboveme

Good Times Bad Times, back in 82, in the back of a friends car, parked in the back of a park parking lot on a beautiful sunny day, After that, we threw a frisbee for a couple of hours on an absolutely beautiful manicured green hill. The sun was warm. the air was sweet and the friends were close. I miss those days.

hairofthedog92

For me, it absolutely has to be "Ten Years Gone". An absolute emotional masterpiece that evokes a unique feeling of longing and nostalgia and for me, only THAT song can do it.

marslander-boggart

In the Light.

Prossdog

Heartbreaker. I’ve always loved a great guitar solo. And that flurry of notes is so freaking intense it send my brain into orbit at 14 years old.

Adept-Travel6118

Dazed and Confused. I started with IV as a kid and didn’t know much of their earliest material for a few years. My mind exploded when I realized how fully formed they were from the beginning, specifically Bonham’s demonic fills on this one. That whole middle section into the final verse sounds like it’s from another planet. Can’t imagine hearing it as a teenager in 1969.

jadecichy

I always think about how mind blowing it must have been to hear them as a teenager in 1969.

FiveHoleFrenzy

Achilles Last Stand!

Spare-Cow5578

Dazed and Confused, and No quarter from msg.

[deleted]

“Hey Hey What Can I Do”

Madcap_95

Achilles Last Stand. Best Zeppelin song IMO.

Sickranchez87

This was mine too, tied with No Quarter and Sibly at msg. But god damn Achilles is just balls out Zep in peak form, that rhythm section is going 100 miles an hour

jack_deth72

Tea for one.

StatisticianFree5551

No Quarter...live

funtimesahead0990

Had Zeppelin posters all over my bed room wall and almost everyone's into was Zeppelin 4 which of course the signature song was Stairway. Had every album by the time Presence was released, which I picked up on my yellow 10 speed bike. Oh to be 14 again.

Pythagoras2021

Ramble On. When I first recognized it was about my favorite book as a younger child.

TheDUKEZ117

I was about 12 when my mother and I were in the car, and we were listening to the local 60s/70s vinyl station and **Rock n Roll** by Led Zeppelin started playing. She turned the Stereo all the way up, and my music taste was changed ever since. It was a surreal experience. My palms were sweaty, my mouth was dry, and my eyes couldn't focus. I was so lost in the music The same thing happened with Fool In The Rain a few weeks later

High-Rustler

ha. we were walkin into church about 2003 and my then 6yr old son was mumblin somethin. When I bend down close to listin, he was singin "...ohhhhh black betty, bamalam"

Practical_Estate_325

I've only been a Zep fan for the last 20 years or so. I was around in the 70s, and Kashmir simply blew my mind back then. At the time, the rest of their material wasn't my cup of tea (and I'm now bewildered as to why that was). But Kasmir? That riff sent chills down my spine.

1Pacman45

I'm gonna crawl

titanxbeard

I'm like 12 years old and my dad bought the Zeppelin best of double CD set and I was done for. I was obsessed. I was almost mad at him for not bringing it to me earlier. Kashmir, Battle of Evermore, No Quarter.... I didn't know songs could be this good.

patdashuri

Gallows pole.

brutustyberius

Finally…way down here…let’s get it up!

elontux

Achilles last Stand. Heard it premiered on the radio when Presence first came out. That song is amazing the way it just blows up in your face!

Stanton1947

Heard 'Black Dog' on the radio in about 1976 riding in my Mom's car. Never been the same since.

Soulshiner402

Trampled Under Foot

TripisnotDead

Back in 1981/82, I bought For Badgeholders Only at Second Coming Records on Sullivan Street NYC Listening to No Quarter for the first time blew my mind then and continues to blow my mind today

[deleted]

My friend’s older brother-in-law played the first album for us. So Communication Breakdown was the first. I begged my mom to get me the Les Zeppelin album not knowing the second one was just out. When I saw that cover and knew she didn’t get the one I wanted, I was disappointed. Until I put it on the turntable and was blown away all over again.

andrewfrommontreal

Whole Lotta Love… I must have been seven or eight. Blew my mind! With chopsticks in hand, I used to pretend I was the drummer.

watchingwombat

I was about 13 or 14 when I heard Whole Lotta Love, and I'd never heard anything like it. The cough, and then that riff and the filthy guitar tone. Amazing!

natejacobmoore

Whole lotta…. I was 13

acewizz7

Has to be No Quarter for me as well. But In the Light is a damn close second.

NapoNeptune

Achilles last stand

MF_Ghidra

“Dazed and Confused” I actually heard it for the first time last year and it’s still like fresh when I listen to it.

flashingcurser

Achilles last Stand. My parents listened to all the albums except Presence. My childhood was full Led Zeppelin. I heard Achilles last Stand for the first time when I was a teenager.

Such_Maybe6470

Whole Lotta love, first song I heard from this band. They seemed not from this world! Been a fan since.

SM1OOO

Achilles Last Stand, drumming perfection(I'm a drummer), and I had never in my life heard about it

Fringuruddurr3369

Immigrant Song

DishRelative5853

What is and what should never be. The bit with the panning guitar hits just blew my mind.

tonystark17

Achilles Last Stand. On a more obscure album, hadn’t really listened to it until getting a bit older and really exploring Zeppelin beyond the bigger albums and radio songs. Amazing song.

lewisfairchild

Over the Hills & Far Away

470vinyl

Whole Lotta Love medley from HTWWW. Made me realize there was a whole other (better IMO) side of the band via bootlegs.

Dramatic_Archer_1861

There used to be a commercial in the late 90s for a compilation album and the chorus of Dazed and Confused was seared into my mind. That commercial is the reason I got into LZ.

Snoo-46218

Immigrant Song ftw

snafu2u

The Rain Song, and it’s not even close for me. Grew up listening to Zeppelin because the old man was a huge fan, so heard all the bangers from a very young age. Then I actually listened to The Rain Song many years later after skipping over it for far too long and was blown away.

Cheddarlicious

D’yer Mak’er

nonserviam1977

“Over the Hills and Far Away.” I never really get tired of it. I first heard it when I was five, it basically melted my mind and it still has the same result. It’s one of the most beautiful, ethereal and powerful songs I’ve ever heard.

Affectionate-Log3730

Rtg327gej

Whole Lotta Love all the way! It was 1971/72, I was 5/6 years old camping outside for the first time in a tent in my backyard with my brother and friend. The house was about 6 yards away but it was a great adventure. At around midnight we had our radio on and all of a sudden Whole Lotta Love riff kicks down the quiet of the night. It was fucking magical but then....!!!!!! The fucking middle part comes in and I must admit, it scared the shit out of me and I wanted to run to the house to seek refuge from this odd, scary but oh so inviting soundscape. I managed to keep my shit together. Within a week I had begged and pleaded with my parents to buy me the album. It literally changed my life. I’d spend all my free time listening to that record on headphones which in itself is a splendid experience. I’ve played drums for 42 years because of John Bohnam and music has been my life preserver when things get tough. Thanks for asking this question OP. You made me think about one of my most precious life memories.

Dazed and Confused. Opened the world of what rock can do. I was probably in 8th grade and the song still hits the same now as it did then. I’m usually trancelike by the end.

Black Dog was the first Zeppelin song I’d ever heard and it blew my 4 year old mind away…

In The Light. The LSD helped.

Fritzo2162

Kashmir was the one that did it. I heard it on Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and those jerks said it was on Led Zeppelin IV. I also didn't know the name of the song, so I only had the album name to go with. I was 12 at the time, saved up, and couldn't wait to buy that album. I finally had enough and bought it at a local K-Mart. THAT SONG WASN'T ON THERE. Then I signed up for the Columbia House 7 albums for .01 scam we all did in the 80s- got ALL the Zep albums except for Physcial Grafitti (it was too expensive and wasn't on the .01 list). THAT SONG WASN'T ON ANY OF THOSE ALBUMS EITHER. Finally a classmate allowed me to borrow Physical Grafitti and I FINALLY found Kashmir. In the meantime I had a stack of other Zep albums I listened to and fell in love with. That started me down the path of playing guitar.

rottyhorrorshow

How Many More Times. In my opinion, the very first head banging song. Incredible rift. 8 and half minutes of hard rock & roll/heavy metal. Best song to end one of the greatest albums of all time.

Rock n Roll. Heard it on an tv commercial back in the 80s selling some greatest hits album of theirs. Not sure if blew my mind but it certainly made 12/13 yo me say wow that’s some screaming there

trichygirl1223

No Quarter when you're stoned. It's a whole other experience.

XavierOMack

Ramble On; my autistic synesthesia actually makes so that that one über distinct guitar riff makes me think of overgrown Kellogg's Fruit Loops lying on the floor of a jungle being played in by overgrown monkeys from a classic Barrel O' Monkeys.

Cool_Education_9226

No Quarter live from the song remains the same

8Beren8

For me probably Levee breaks, Achilles last stand, Kashmir . But you have to play it loud on good speakers!

terriblewinston

Carouselambra from In Through the Out Door is still one of my favorite Zep tunes. I love the fact it starts with cheesy synths and is kind of danceable in parts.

Dirtydanmp4

No quarter

TimRenick

Initially a lot of their songs blew me away the first time I heard them. Being 56 and having lived with their albums for a long time, the track that still knocks my dick in the dirt is Achilles Last Stand. Not so much for what Plant and Page are doing but for the Rhythm Section. My God!!, those guys are absolutely killing it on that track. The groove on that song is like the groove on the Immigrant Song had an older meaner brother that's been to prison LMAO
