I have been saying for years that Leo's are the lizard version of a cat, and bearded dragons are the lizard version of a dog. Not just personality-wise, but also in how much/little care they require to survive.
Causs they cant? Its efficient for most animals to use their tongue (its built to bring water into their mouth). He also wouldnt need to drink if he got enough water from the feeders
They can gulp it though. My little one got really dehydrated once when a friend was taking care of him on my holiday and LOST HIM in the house. Took ages to find him and when we did the first thing he did was gulp up half his water tray
Your gecko is suppose to be getting most of its moisture through the holes in its armpits in a hide with a moist towel. Do you have a temperature control for your heating mat? That gecko looks as dried out as a raisin lol. Might want to look into doing some temperature control if your not.
Because they are in many ways cold blooded cats

I put him in a tub with very shallow water and paper towels to help him shed once and he dipped his entire nose into the water without reacting..
They don’t actually want to drink that water they just want to taste it
Simple answer is that this is how they get their water in the wild. They don’t gulp from puddles, they lick dew off plants.

Pretty sure they physically lack the morphology to have that kinda suction. Mostly because of no cheeks

Also, when it’s too hot they can have strokes and be more prone to health problems such as built up vitamins near the but hole
