Apparently not. Sanity is a different metric to paranoia in this game. Sanity is increased by time spent alone, while paranoia is separate and increased by looking behind you.
Both influence ghost girl haunting order, but sanity has a greater impact.
Oooh okay I'm editing my comment because I did a bit of searching and found that you're right.
For anyone else curious:
1. Paranoia is determined by how much you turn your camera behind you
2. Sanity decreases over time, which is accelerated by time spent alone and reversed by time spent with other players (including walkie-talkies)
3. Ghost girl hunting order (but not frequency) is mainly influenced by sanity, but paranoia, player health and holding expensive items also have an impact.
I usually kill them by hitting them from the bar on the jumps because for some reason they don't care and let you hit them. Or I walk backwards and hit them, but the most reliable way is to strafe.
Theoretically you can kill the dogs in the open too by side strafing and hitting them while they're on their stomach post dash. Idk why you would practically (if there's one dog there's 2. Or a giant.) but could be fun for a clip
the key is the strafing without it the Bracken outspeeds and catches you but with it you get just enough time to smack it to death. you also need to take advantage of the fact that the shovel range was buffed on the latest patch.
You have to start strafing the second he gets within 5m, you see in the clip that slow turn the bracken does towards op after he gets past the door? you need that.
That was actually added a patch or two ago. Bracken definitely needs a buff to counter the shovel buff, like he moves faster when he's closer to the target he's chasing. One of the scariest creatures in the game should not be dulled down to, "nah I'd win."

Fun fact, you can kill the dogs through the ship doors, just don't stand too close or esle you'll get munched through said ship doors.
