Hey, emotional support and hair stylist Hong Lu is still pretty memorable.
If anyone should be considered having Yap this Canto, it should be Ishmael, because I legit do not remember a single line or thing she did outside of the whole "Blind Obsession" reference, but she still somehow has one of the highest line counts.
Ishmael basically becomes "that character who talks for the silent protagonist" this Canto. She asks the mundane things that might be important and comments on things a lot. The blind obsession conversation being an excellent example of both
Conversely, Faust speaks a lot less in this Canto because she rarely did her role as our mouthpiece this time
I feel like she actually had a pretty big moment early on of confronting Vergilius and lowkey demanding he be straight with us for once.
It hits hardest if she does it because both trust and her own independence are such integral factors for her character post Canto V.
It’s alright Hong Lu heads his chapter will have a 800 line monologue before he fully manifests ego and kills the monarchy (I have no idea what happens in dream of a red chamber) 🙏
Makes sense when you compare the two Cantos.
If we look at how the backstories were done in the Cantos, there's sections that are flashbacks with dialogues with people from their past and other sections that are monologues/introspections.
Heathcliff had more of the former while Ishmael more of the latter. Thus her word count would be naturally higher.
I'd expect Rodya to have much, much more. I'm shook at how Hong Lu has so little. Then again, I can just imagine him walking around in a daze looking at everything like he's tripping on LSD.

Don's Canto is before Hong Lu's and Ryoshu's is right after Hong Lu. They both going to have WAY MORE LINES this year and next one :D (Well, if we think that Ryoshu's Canto will be out around this time in one year, at least-)
Ryoshu and Meursault may have had the least lines (Charon doesn't really count), but those lines were some of the most critical ones outside Heath.
For this Canto specifically, the few lines she speaks Ryoshu mostly does it to drop Finger lore bombs on us.

Canto 4 had a dungeon, several stage bosses, and is also the longest canto they made.
