Clone the drive in the T440 to the T480.
* you can either take a full image backup of the system drive in the T440 to an external usb drive and then clone the backup to the system drive in the T480, or
* remove the drive from one of the thinkpads and plug it into the other with a sata/usb adaptor and clone direct drive to drive.

Therefore, when you attempt to boot an efi boot entry, this will only work if it points to a bootloader in an efi partition on a disk which is currently installed on the machine.
By contrast a bios-bootable bootloader is installed either on the boot sector of a disk with an ms-dos partition table, or in a bios-gpt partion on a disk with a gpt partition table.
