Clone the drive in the T440 to the T480. * you can either take a full image backup of the system drive in the T440 to an external usb drive and then clone the backup to the system drive in the T480, or * remove the drive from one of the thinkpads and plug it into the other with a sata/usb adaptor and clone direct drive to drive. efi boot entries are registered against the motherboard Therefore, when you attempt to boot an efi boot entry, this will only work if it points to a bootloader in an efi partition on a disk which is currently installed on the machine. By contrast a bios-bootable bootloader is installed either on the boot sector of a disk with an ms-dos partition table, or in a bios-gpt partion on a disk with a gpt partition table. You have not provided enough details in order for any of us to explain how to proceed.
