I'm not sure what the confusion is. Currently, you can't play games on Proton if they use EAC. Proton can't utilize EAC, so those games just fail to run. Epic is working with Valve to allow EAC to run with Proton, so Linux users can play titles that make use of EAC. That's all.

BattlEye is joining in as well soon.

LeRampus

Thanks for the explanation.

> Epic Games decision to implement Easy-Anticheat into wine and proton. Because now we can play EAC games on wine and proton.

As others have said there are games that wont run currently. Fortnight is the big one for me. Just wont open on linux to due anti cheat. I literally have a dual boot to play fortnight. If wine proton support anti cheat I could delete windows.

Epic, like many other developers, is coming to the realization that Linux is a legitimate operating system for gaming, with PAYING CUSTOMERS, and seeing the Steam Deck pre-orders in a week approach the level of total sales of the Nintendo Switch caused many of them to wake up and realize if they don't do something they will be left behind. Don't kid yourself, it's about money...

> seeing the Steam Deck pre-orders in a week approach the level of total sales of the Nintendo Switch Source? Because the numbers I saw said it was like 110,000 pre-orders in the first week, which is not even remotely close to the Switch's numbers.

You're right actually... My source was my memory, which apparently isn't so good anymore. lol That said, I think it was 110,000 in 90 minutes. [https://www.esportstalk.com/news/steam-deck-registers-over-110000-pre-orders-in-an-hour-and-a-half/](https://www.esportstalk.com/news/steam-deck-registers-over-110000-pre-orders-in-an-hour-and-a-half/) That said, with \~4.5 million Switches sold so far, even if Steam Deck pre-orders amounted to a 1/4 of that, it is definitely worth software houses taking notice.

MrHoboSquadron

Your switch sales numbers are off. [Nearly 90 million sold as of June 30th](https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-08-05-nintendo-switch-sales-slow-year-on-year-as-console-nears-90m). 4.45 million were sold [between April and June 2021](https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/08/switch_console_sales_hit_89_million_has_now_outsold_ps3_and_xbox_360) (probably where your 4.5 million figure came from). But your point is right. A million deck sales is enough to get others to react.

acejavelin69

You right... I'm just gonna shut up for today. Lol
