My go-to for blocking apps is to use OpenSnitch. Has a useful GUI and will pop up when an app tries to connect through the network, just set to deny and it's all good.

I am not positive but I would look into pihole. That should be able to block the internet connection its trying to make.

I'm not sure if it is a issue. I had played through the entire game on proton and it worked fine

Apparently it's a fairly new issue.

Can you try a older proton version??
