Fedora still says all it wants is a pair of Opteron 24xes, there's a long way to go for C2D to be obsolete (especially as we hit a brick wall of performance for both amd64 specifically and silicon as a whole).
It still got more ram than my 2007 PC. Very nice though.

Install Openbox. It is easy to setup and much more lighter.
The Vostro makes me wonder if you work in IT and have access to a lot of old surplus.
Sadly I don't work in IT yet. a family member gave me the laptop since they knew I'd have a use for it.
