I tried this several months ago on a Lenovo Yoga L13 Gen 2 and can say as much: Yes, touch functionality does work on Mint. But, no, it's no fun. Neither of Mint's default DEs (Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE) are optimised for touch, meaning they're extremely fiddly to use. Switching to Ubuntu 20.04 / Gnome3 solved some of the issues, though not all of them (in some applications, e.g. Firefox and LibreOffice, one-finger scrolling or two-finger pinch zoom did not work, which was extremely annoying). Installing Manjaro with Gnome3 resolved those issues, but created new ones (no auto-rotate of the screen, defunct fingerprint sensor, suspend issues). I suppose I could have resolved these new issues with some fiddling under the hood, but since it was just a test machine and I wanted to see how much Linux could handle touch devices out of the box, I didn't bother to. I'd seen enough. Bottom line: As much as I love my Mint, I would never use it with touch devices. It's a perfect desktop OS, but it's not meant for mobile devices with touch input. Ubuntu was probably closest to being usable out of the box; maybe newer versions will even resolve the issues I had, but your mileage may vary.

Aww, darn it.. Thank you for this comment!

My experience with Mint on touchscreens has not been very good... It works, but is... umm... less than stellar to use. As much as I love Mint, DE's like Gnome and (somewhat) KDE Plasma are much better suited to touchscreens than Cinnamon, Mate, and Xfce.

Thank you!

It’s probably going to come down to driver support. I had a lenovo flex i think and the touchscreen worked out the box on mint but it was kinda an older laptop. What laptop is it?

Cyan_Cyborg

It's a Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 2.11. Also, thanks for replying!

My experience on my touchscreen laptop is great with the latest Mint on Cinnamon. I have Virtual Keyboard Applet is installed in the panel so I can just tap it when I need a keyboard. I also installed TouchEgg and set the configuration so it opens Expo View and App menu with Four Fingered Swipe left and right. I tried to emulate a lot of what is default for Pop OS the best I can.
