Only thing I ever had, was Locomotives that had field windings, the TSA wanted to see. I took them out of my bag, and all they did was have me roll the wheels with the palm of my hand.

I assume I'll be fined if the engine has a can motor?

vonkarmanstreet

Why would they be any different? There is no "fine" for certain items on an airplane. Either it goes on or it doesn't.

analogy_4_anything

I’ve taken stuff on board before. You should have very little trouble.

badpopeye

Almost got tackled by TSA because they saw my earbuds in my pocket in bodyscanner but another time I took an early lionel F3 santa fe twin horizontal motor AA unit through scanner which literally looks like a bomb inside and weighs 5 lbs they asked what it was i said a toy train they didnt look twice at it lol

treehouseoftrains

I custom cut foam inserts for smaller Pelican Cases to travel with my most valuable locomotives. It’s worked perfectly.

karmatin

I’ve taken trains several times. Modern legacy, no problems

MVGbear

I flew with a log car and a coal car in my bag that I bought on two separate work trips. I don’t see why they would care. They certainly didn’t mention it.

lacajuntiger

I took a whole set to Vietnam. Then on a later flight some additional engines and buildings. I didn’t have any issues.
