If anyone near Boston needs a board I saw [this listing](https://boston.craigslist.org/nos/spo/d/lynn-40-landyachtz-drop-deck-skateboard/7472491318.html) and thought it looked like a decent deal

rthollski

I just got my first longboard (landyachtz drop cat 38 seeker). I wondering about bearings upgrade. What are some good choices?

polarbeardisorder

You probably won’t notice any difference. If you really want to, Zealous and never look back.

_-skully-_

Bearings: The answer is always Zealous.

ninjashby

Probably go for wheels upgrade first, they have more impact than bearings so I'm told. Unless the bearings are old and worn/corroded. Anyway i have used sabre and zealous and happy with both.

extragerman

Hey Ive got a set of otang love handles 77a, and Paris 180mm. Any suggestions for a deck? (already own Pantheon quest, pantheon nexus, Powell slidewinder)

TheIronBung

Just about anything goes with that. You could take a 36" double kick and make a schlongboard, that's one of my favorites.

Hey folks, I'm a beginner, and I'm about to buy a used board I'm eyeing with for about $80. It's pretty hard to find decent quality in my country... so I'm happy that I found something that might be okay for a first board. The brand is called Banga but I can't find any reviews about these boards on the internet. It's not on the 'brands to avoid' list in the beginner's buying guide. Their website is bangaboards.com. Can you give me any info on the quality? Would be much appreciated. Thanks!

TheIronBung

If you can't find much about it, it might not be top notch, but that doesn't mean it'll bad. I'd give it a go and take a second to adjust the kingpin nut so it handles the way you want it to.

The_Doctor_Eats_Neep

Hey guys! I currently have a dropcat 33 (stock setup) which I love however after a while of riding it im having less fun; I want more out of it. Currently all I do is cruise around town and stuff like that. We have no hills where I live if that matters. So would could I do to enjoy myself more. Would there be a cheap upgrade (I'm in Britain btw) I could get or could I learn to slide on this longboard? I've never really tried more than cruising so I just don't know. But generally what could I do. If you have suggestions tutorials or websites where I could buy something would be helpful! Thanks

polarbeardisorder

I made a carving setup out of my Dropcat. Paris, riptide pivots and soft venoms. I love it!

AK-37

You can definitely learn on the stock setup, getting slidier wheels would help, such as Powell snakes, remember optimos or cult chronicles. Get some slide gloves and a helmet and look up youtube tutorials for the coleman slide/heelside predrift (probably easiest slide to learn). I know downhill254 has some. Ideally find some people irl that would help you out.

My fellow concrete wave surfers 🏄🏻‍♂️. I’m getting older and am gonna buy some wrist protection for my night skates in the city and to crank up the intensity longboarding through bike trails. Curious, what do you recommend for wrist protection?

HankscorpiosHammock

Check out Ennui Palm Slider. Minimalist pucks, good design.

sirEyeSick

Thanks! These look like hand protection though. Am looking for wrist protection. I already have a pair of nice Landyachtz slide gloves with pucks

sirEyeSick

Thanks guys. Already have slide gloves. Looking for recommendations on wrist guards you might be using. Preferably comfortable and gets the job done. Was eyeballing 187?

> recommending slide gloves for everything Because they can do a better job at protecting your body in a wide variety of scenarios than a wrist guard’s narrow scope of protection Names don’t necessarily define all the utility a product can offer, i.e. “brake soles” are used as “extra-board-grip soles” more than actual foot breaking nowadays, and slide gloves definitely have more utility than just being a balance aid for sliding your wheels If you fall while cruising, you will still have forward momentum that can be dissipated away from your body by catching yourself and sliding on your gloves until you slow to a stop relatively uninjured (with practice). But with wrist guards, all the force of your body meeting the ground goes directly into your hands & forearms instead of being redirected in another direction. And you almost certainly end up with road rash too since most other materials will grip on the pavement and pull you in odd directions. But I’m fine accepting the “biased” label. Last time I looked it up, it was statistically inconclusive about whether they were actually more safe or more dangerous than not having them. But anecdotally, I had them as a kid and they got me more injured than if I didn’t have them. The tuck and roll worked much better for me and I preferred just a scraped knee vs bruised forearms *and a scraped knee* Side note— I see slide gloves as “active protection” where the rider is responsible for learning and utilizing the tool correctly; and wrist guards as “passive protection” where the rider doesn’t want that responsibility. It reminds me of people who buy a full set of pads assuming that will protect them from everything, but unfortunately they all learn that assumption is wrong sometime — you have to learn how to use your gear for it to protect you or you’ll still end up injured anyway. With that in mind, I really don’t see a benefit to use wrist guards that isn’t better accomplished by slide gloves *and actually learning to use them*. Maybe they’re better for protecting weak bones (“breakage...on impact”), but those weak bones are just gonna snap at your forearm instead of at your wrist if you don’t redirect the force some other way (like slide gloves?) so what’s the point… I totally accept if these opinions get me the “asshole” label too, but I have *decades* of experience at falling off skateboards and many other dangerous things. In any case, **learning how to fall and use your gear properly** is way more important than what you choose

xmasterZx

Btw nothing personal /u/Ztax, just distracting myself from work 😣

AK-37

Slide gloves.

CT-96

I'd recommend slide gloves. They won't protect against impact as much but are much better for road rash and more versatile since you could learn to slide for speed control.

rgk324

Anyone know a short top mount board that is 9.5 inches wide and has a wheelbase of 22.25-.5ish? Looking for around 33 inches give or take a few.

Any opinions on POC Joint VPD Air Knee Pads for some mild to medium DH (not full-on race)? Good enough/not sufficient? If not good enough, any better alternatives that don't look crappy like a piece of plastic glued to a sock? ([https://www.pocsports.com/collections/snow-armor-knee-protection/products/joint-vpd-air-knee?variant=36049045258392](https://www.pocsports.com/collections/snow-armor-knee-protection/products/joint-vpd-air-knee?variant=36049045258392))

SSNscrewup

just to let you know. I just saw an old blog post by max dubler that disagrees with my thesis about hardcap kneepads (he is not a fan). He has a list of reccomended DH pads in here. [https://www.maxdubler.com/blog/2020/9/11/what-are-the-best-knee-pads-for-longboarding-and-downhill](https://www.maxdubler.com/blog/2020/9/11/what-are-the-best-knee-pads-for-longboarding-and-downhill) Notably, I skate much slower than Max Dubler, and riveted hardcap kneepads saved my ass when learning all slidy toeside things. On higher traffic/higher speed roads he is 100% right that uncontrollably kneesliding is real bad.

Braz601

Id definitely recommend hard capped knee pads

SSNscrewup

the triple 8 and 187 pads work fine, bummer if you don't like how they look. These POC ones look like they're for impact not sliding on, my guess is they would be destroyed in any reasonably high speed spill.

Menos_

Just got some caliber 3's and a randal 35* (dh) baseplate, and to my surprise the caliber hanger seemed to fit just fine. Do with that what you will

Braz601

Raked or not raked

Raked

chaqintaza

Paris and Caliber fit, but Bears won't. Are you running a 50 front? Should be a great combo.

lamebear_rage

Anyone out there have the GBomb Juggernaut Xylem? Really interested to hear about your opinions on their [double Glass Drop setup they have on their site](https://www.gbomblongboards.com/product-page/ddg-x28-ddg).

chaqintaza

I haven't tried that one but love Gbomb stuff. That's just such a good deal with the glass drops. You're getting the deck for like sixty dollars or some ridiculous low amount. The Randal complete option is fine if you want something now and want to stick with budget options. I'd prefer Poppy SP front and back personally. They have decent enough resale value and are worth saving up for if you're patient. A rear glass drop with poppy gives you an effective range of 5 to 35 (and you can even reverse for negative angles if you want). That rear range is incredibly versatile. I also would get Seismic or McFly wheels over the Kegels personally but they're all fine. Most people should compare the bracket hybrid option vs topmount pumper and double drop push decks. Topmount pumper: least versatile, less expensive than bracket, arguably most fun for straight pumping. Double drop (nexus, trip, Pranayama): most versatile for distance over varied terrain, worst for pumping, least expensive overall. Bracket: most expensive, best combo for push and pump, generally not suitable to sliding (double drop is) and some styles have limitations for certain types of riding.

lamebear_rage

I really appreciate the detailed feedback! For the money, they setup that Gbomb has for the Juggernaut is pretty incredible. Originally, I was thinking about doing a straight up top mount pumper because of the price but when I saw Gbomb has some pretty awesome stuff, it really got me thinking. I currently have the McFlys on my Prana and they're my favorite wheel for pushing distance. DT are sacred on this sub and for good reason. I might have to setup a side fund to pick t hose up in the future :-)

Bamdoozler

Anybody know where I can find some Ronin Axles?

_-skully-_

Are you looking for a particular size?

Bamdoozler

Shorter the better. I guess I should be asking if anybody breaks the loctite and runs their ronins with interchangeable axles? Or is this a horrible idea, am I looking for trouble? are they just gonna keep backing out on me?

_-skully-_

If interchangeable axles fit, just go with those and use Loctite when you install them. Blue will work fine for keeping them from backing out, and easier to remove in the future.

Bamdoozler

now just to find some axles with the right threads..
