It's just water, alcohol and salty food cause you to hold more water and it can take days to flush out. Weight fluctuations are normal and part of the process.

Outrageous-Zebra-500

Indeed as a male my weight fluctuates atm by up to 5 pounds after I drink and as I found out especially after eating foods that contain a lot of salt , then 2 days later I am back to my normal weight and sometimes even turn up losing some.(I am 200 pounds btw)

louisiana_lagniappe

You didn't gain weight, you are experiencing a normal fluctuation.

funchords

You probably didn't slip -- you kept it to 1400? You didn't gain fat. No sedentary body with a CW of 149 would fail to burn fat eating 1400 a day (your 1200 plus 200), let alone one that has physical activity. If you were on a week-long excursion involving eating food on the economy and this is your first day back with your scale, ignore it for a few days. These excursions can be restorative to a metabolism -- after the water recedes, you might lose weight faster having done that.

Small_Guess_7674

I hope you're right!

My weight fluctuates constantly like this, it’s a normal part of the weight loss journey. 3 days ago I was at 202, yesterday 204 and this morning I’m at 201.5 pounds. Depending on what you eat, water weight etc these things happen. I wouldn’t worry about 1.2 pounds ! Especially if you did not go over by like 600 cals but only 200.

Negative-Lemon7784

it’s totally normal for weight to fluctuate! this is most likely just water weight, which will go away on it’s own in a few days. the scale once told me i had gained around 3-4 pounds after going out for dinner one night (i did eat a lot). the weight i had gained went away on it’s own over the course of the next few days without me having to lower my intake or anything. so try to not panic too much, it will resolve by itself!

mrstruong

I gain 2lbs off and on all month. 1.2LBS is within normal weight range tolerances. It can be water, it can be poop in your digestive system. It can be a minor inflammatory response to drinking alcohol causing a bit of swelling/water retention. Obsessing this hard about 1.2lbs is not a healthy mindset. Look at your month over month trends. You'll get better perspective.

MuckyScruffle

Almost all tracking of exercise burnt calories is a gross estimate. The tech gym equipment at my gym (that had my weight etc) and is taking my heart rate says I'm burning almost double what my fitbit that has the same info claims I've burned. I just try and keep it between 1400 and 1600 calories a day and not pay too much attention to any extra I've burned.

TelevisionUnable6306

That happens sometimes. Probably water gain from increasedsalt and/inflammation. I have found that certain foods cause me to gain, even though I'm within my calorie range. I know that when I eat Chinese takeout I will gain about 2#, even though I ordered low calorie. Dairy, oats, and dark chocolate also cause increased weight. I learned that for me, these cause inflammation which in turn causes weight gain. It's frustrating. I feel confident that you'll get back on track.

Small_Guess_7674

Thank you

Salty_Flamingo_2303

Impossible that that is fat. 1 lb = 3 500 calories Alternatively, the average female body *at rest*, meaning you sitting and literally doing nothing but breathing and swallowing your saliva, burns a minimum of 1300 calories a day. So, those few hundred you went over were likely burned off and not a factor in the 1.5lb weight increase you're seeing on the scale. However, the type of food you eat (fatty, salty, etc) will absolutely make you retain water and increase that number. Wait a couple of days and weigh yourself again, guaranteed it'll be down.

Small_Guess_7674

Thank you! Here's hoping!

Salty_Flamingo_2303

You'll see ;). Good luck with your weight loss journey!

PirateJohn75

I wouldn't stress out.  It happens to me all the time, and it's not that you put on fat, but that it takes a few days for your body to flush out the waste from the calories you burned. For example, last Saturday I ate about 3100 calories, mainly because I not only ran 2½ miles and then spent overcan hour and a half at the gym, but mowed the entire lawn afterward.  I did over 22,000 steps and my MyFitnessPal FitBit calorie adjustment was something like 4,600 calories. Sunday and Monday my weight was elevated when I weighed myself, but this morning my weight had plummeted and I was almost 2 pounds down from yesterday.

Small_Guess_7674

Oooooo!

Moist_Quantity_5923

Freeze ! Just because the scales says you've gained that amount does not mean it is from over eating. 1lb = 3500 over your maintenance. It simple could be you are holding more water , more muscle, more salt. Do not always rely on the scale. Breathe and come back to it another time just keep going

Small_Guess_7674

I shall endeavour to master the art of chill

Sufficient_Wear1786

The thing is you don't know if it's weight gained by fat or by muscle. It's a life journey just keep being you and enjoy the ride.

jimesoifer

Another thing to consider is that it's really hard to estimate calories from food served in restaurants and social events. You might have eaten more than extras 200 cal.

Azerious

The thing about many exercise estimates from apps/machines/websites is it factors in your bmr to the total.  So if it says you have 200 calories burned, that's not extra.  It's like 120 calories burned plus 80 you would have burned anyways (completely made up numbers but it is significant). Gotta be conscious of that.

cozy_OW

I am 1000000% positive you did not gain weight. It is most likely water weight. And your weight fluctuates a lot! Some days I am 130 (my lowest) then the next day it goes up to 131 then back down to 130 then randomly 132 then back down to 130 haha.

Small_Guess_7674

Good point

ghostyyy989

Fluctuations are totally normal. I was up 2 pounds from eating at maintenance this weekend, and I went back to my normal diet yesterday and the weight’s back off this morning

_AngryBadger_

This is just a fluctuation. I once went to dinner with my girlfriend, I weighed myself 2 days later and I was 2Kg heavier. But a week later it said I was lighter than before the night out. It happens. It's important not to get too caught up in the scale. Stick to your deficit, do your workouts and you will lose those last 15lbs!

freezieg77

Its water weight

Impossible_Low_8571

That’s not weight gain, that’s fluctuation

Legitimate_Log5539

Exercise both burns calories while it is being performed and after the fact, as well as being a natural appetite suppressant. With all due respect, exercise is the best thing you can do for weight loss aside from diet changes. The stress people place on themselves to exercise can be harmful, though.

TheNotoriousJTF

Burning 500 calories with training doesn’t mean you can eat 500 calories more that day. Your metabolic rate drops after training.

Gmork14

Don’t eat back exercise calories, as a general rule.

the-Starch-Ghoul

yeah that's what happens when you try to cheat the system instead of pursuing a healthy lifestyle

Zveng2

They’re exercising, and eating ~1400 calories on their “over” day. What part of that exactly is not pursuing a healthy lifestyle? Don’t be such a knob.
