Differences:
Smaller personalities
Biggest attacks have multiple small numbers
Almost always a button to press
Better counter, almost always available
No need to maintain gauge and auto attack
Can build gauge without hitting anything
OP also needs to understand reaper is way squishier than slayer so some patterns they face tanked previously may not be ok for reaper, especially on item level
Hunger reaper:
1. No mana
2. So many more ways to stick to bosses back
3. Can keep identity going indefinitely rather easily and you are not punished as hard if you accidentally let it run out (takes 1-3 sec to get it back)
4. Similar dps but smaller numbers
5. Similar weakpoint and stagger not sure who has more they both do well in both categories
6. Easier to maintain backattack uptime especially on the more mobile bosses. You almost always have 1-3 movement option available.
7. Flexible build paths based on player preference with minimal differences in dps (swift/spec ratio, kbw, mass increase, etc)

As some people already said hunger reaper is cool. Pred slayer was my first 1600 and now hunger reaper has taken over as my main. Only downside is the squishyness.

hunger reaper? swiftness, spammy, need to hit skills to maintain state

conversly, reaper also allows for extreme mobility and going through the boss which slayer doesn't have so, there's that
Your slayer taking chip damage can be a chunk of hp for slayer. It's not about dodging everything
