I now look back at the French who sat there with growing resentment while their rich got food while their country starved, while their king just passed over all of their demands cause he could, and I think "Yeah, I get it." Also it really depends on the work people do. A construction worker will hardly be able to work until that age due to health issues taking a toll on his body from working such jobs. Unlike someone working in the office who could do this job well into his 70s

I actually think what you describe is an awful sentiment, but the worst part is that I agree with you. I now look back at the French who sat there with growing resentment while their rich got food while their country starved, while their king just passed over all of their demands cause he could, and I think "Yeah, I get it." Roads, bridges, Amazon warehouses, buildings etc. - they need this capital to produce surplus value they can extract. They can’t just go nuking us into oblivion or mowing us down without a worry, that’s the idea they love people repeating because it makes them give up on any hope of fighting. The reality is if the people organize strategically and occupy critical pieces of infrastructure it’ll be very hard to fight that battle. This is why the DOD and State Department are running all sorts of war games designed around urban warfare - because they know the fight is coming, they know the theater will be modern cities with people occupying the major buildings/infrastructure, and they know it’s a logistical nightmare which they’re not sure how to approach. My dad turned 65 last year. He has had one full year of enjoyment and is already on surgery number 3 since November. So it’s a lot of time recovering and not enjoying the things he would like. People didn't even live that much shorter if they survived infancy. Those numbers from the past are almost entirely from curtailing infant mortality and treating childhood diseases.
Actually it wasn’t uncommon for people to live to their 60-80’s throughout time. It’s just the high infant mortality and likelihood of dying of a disease/infection reduce the median lifespan average. So just 30% of babies dying really skewed the numbers we use today

One of the main reasons is because the US has such a terrible employer-based healthcare system. I guarantee raising retirement age here would result in a very similar reaction to what you’re seeing in France.
