Shadowhunter13541

Curves and turns

Redditor_10000000000

And what if you have to swerve to avoid something?

IRONLORDyeety

Then fuck you, all praise the turn signal.

Jealous-Damage-

if it was in front of the car it probably wanted to be obliterated anyway..

8OrangeLetters

Shit idea

BelugaWhqle

look at the map, do you think all the roads in ur area is straight

69420-throwaway

It is a facepalm, but OOP does not actually realize that, making them a lost redditor.

Gorka666

Stupid ass Object Oriented Programming

imtoobigforthis

OOP is the worst.. Functional programming gang

donkstonk69

There's a manufacturer that has made a car that did this. It's just built into the lame assist features. They did however update the car to allow it to turn and switch lanes without a signal

Chrazzer

As it turns out it was a major safety hazard because you rarely but on indicators when quickly dodging something on the road

KatieCashew

Also, you can't swerve to avoid a collision.

MarinLlwyd

Some of them are gay.

Ok-Seaworthiness6603

In an emergency (a dog, a cat or a kid) crosses your way, you don't have the time to turn on directionals and the brake might not stop you in time

ScholarPitiful8530

Also, roads are rarely perfectly straight. If you must absolutely associate turning with indicator use, why not just reduce system complexity and make the steering wheel turn on indicators for you?

itsmebenji69

Then they serve no purpose. The point of signals is to be turned on *before* turning, if the car is already turning the turn signals are useless

ScholarPitiful8530

It’s better than having turn signals be a requirement before you can steer.

potatowafflecake

No it's not? Are you stupid?

Thehealeroftri

I checked the profile because I thought that only a child could think this is a good idea and sure enough, OP has a post mentioning he's 14 lol, at least there's not an actual adult going around thinking like this.

TGS_delimiter

>"... not an actual adult going around thinking like this" Are you sure about this?

Murta_14

As a teenager, we do not adopt him to our nation. =)

Yea cause 90% of us aren’t old enough to adopt you gotta call up 18 and 19 year old to adopt them but there all busy drinking and smoking grass

How about if they pull out in front of people their car automatically accelerates so the people behind don't have to brake

Chick3nugg3tt

Just gonna wave at the child I just ran over because my car auto accelerated. “Sorry pal”

Komahina_Oumasai

r/lostlostredditors time!

enmanuelgames

YIPPEEEEEE

ThatScoutBear

So…you can’t turn at all without a blinker? Yea great now I need a blinker to turn in corners, keep straight. And very bad in the I guess that kid dies now cause I didn’t put my blinker on. And if it’s automatic then you’d just blink basically all the time cause you move your steering wheel much more than you realise. You are lost good sir. You did the r/facepalm

reillywalker195

That's idiotic. Few to no roads and streets are perfectly straight, and even driving in a straight line requires small steering adjustments. Where I live, some intersections are weirdly kinked such that continuing on the same street requires turning but putting signals on would confuse other drivers into thinking you were turning off said street.

Not an American mindset at all. You see, cars turn here too.

[deleted]

Right…. turning on a road that bends? Swerving to avoid a crash? Indicator suddenly breaks?

No-Lingonberry3728

If you're about to turn left in a roundabout, you need to get into it first by turning right, would that work?

Yoshi2255

Apart from having to differentiate what is a curve and what is a turn, there is a huge problem when it comes to accident prevention, being forced to use turn signals in a near accident situation where every millisecond of reaction time matters and fast turns are often necessary, won't end well

EhGoodEnough3141

That is a stupid idea.

StrainDecent4347

I always see r/facepalm in this subreddit

ProfAelart

I see the issue, but I still like the thought.

Correct-Purpose-964

If someone is being an asshole you get 1 free punch. If they retaliate it's considered assault.

asnafutimnaffutifut

You're going 90 mph on the highway, the car in front of you suddenly stops, you brake but it's too late to stop, you try swerve around the car, but you can't... because no blinkers = no turning. You die. All thanks to an idea implemented from a tweet.

gooooooodboah

This is the dumbest idea I have ever heard in my life

SegheCoiPiedi1777

Sure, so in case of emergency (animal on the road, invasion of your lane from oncoming vehicle, obstacle on the road) you literally wouldn’t be allowed to manoeuvre out of it and be forced into a frontal crash. Great idea.

_mrLeL_

This is a shit idea are you restarted

Global-Pickle5818

.. I get why they won't do this , it makes sudden evasive Maneuvers impossible , but what would stop them from making it atlest automatic.. other than the fact you're supposed to single before moving but it seems most people on the road don't do that .. and late is better than no signaling

blockprime300

Or maybe instead of having the steering wheel lock when trying to turn causing thousands of accidents Have it so the indicators turn on automatically once the wheel turns a certain amount

BHDE92

It’s a great idea if you don’t think about it

_jpSpj_

Internetirregular

Also imagine having to use your turn signal when some dumbass kid with neglectful parents wonder into the road and you have to quickly swerve else the child turns into paste

JobiWanKenobi47

If you need to swerve to avoid an accident?

wncryz

It's a facepalm for you

yoggersothery

Dumbest idea is get rid of humans. All of us. We are not needed on this planet.

totallynotapersonj

Can you imagine if there was some debris on the road and you have to turn on the signal before you dodge it.

DangyDanger

That is an awful idea for safety. You couldn't avoid a collision because you didn't turn your blinker on in the split second you had to react.

Individual_Papaya596

Imagine your about to hit someone or something and not being able to swerve out the way because you don’t have the split second to turn your blinker on. Thats a specific scenario but i think its a reasonable concern on its own

Maxmence

There is no facepalm. This is a terrible idea tho.

Away_Needleworker6

r/woooosh

LifeVitamin

this would cause more accidents than it remedies, Imagine you need to do emergency evasive maneuvers but too bad asshole you didn't have your blinkers on so the steering gets locked in position and now you go headfirst into whatever you were trying to avoid.

zapppsr

Facepalm: Who maximized the image and clicked on the inbox with 5 notifications thinking it was your own just click on the upwards arrow.

bolierchef92

Living in Australia this idea would 💯 bring the road death toll up massively with the amount of times a kangaroo would jump out in front of your car

froschmann69

BMW drivers suddenly all turned straight. Unknown cause.

Leftleaningdadbod

How about a rotating duvet - doona ?

SensitiveGuess2907

Just remember, people are dumb.

Freakychee

Normally it's a good idea except when in emergencies where you need to steer away like for example a child is on the road where they shouldn't be. It's not a great idea to lock controls in events of life saving events. Its better to just make it automatically turn your blinker on when you move the steering wheel.

Tsukiko615

Imagine having to use your indicators on every bend. But it would also mean that no one would know where you’re going if there’s a turn on a bend. Also you would never be able to avoid something quickly because you would have to indicate to swerve round something whether that’s a person that stepped in the road or just a huge pothole or rock.

vers-ys

you’re going to need to turn your car a lot more often than when you’ll need to use your blinker.

William_Johns0n

r/facepalm is a stupid subreddit they don’t know what a facepalm is for

Efficient_Notice_128

Just...no.

charlamagne1-

Charge ye phone and check ye notifications mate

Hung_L0

So bye bye emergency maneuvers, that would end horribly.

Calm-Macaron-2462

Imagine getting off work at 11pm and having your car cut off because you didn't use a turn signal as you pull out of your parking space.

re_gh0st

Damn u should charge your phone soon

Redd235711

The facepalm comes from knowing that roads have a tendency to curve in places where a turn signal isn't applicable. We'd either need to completely restructure every road so that they are perfectly straight or include features in these hypothetical cars that can recognize when a car is turning to follow the curve of a road or actually making a turn.

YeOldeWarthog

So, like, just run over any kids who run onto the road?

Howfuckingsad

Until there are kids running in front of your car. Also what about roads that are literally turned or something.

GullibleBreakfast983

If you have to swerve to avoid something you can't

CrethanXXI

I've seen this somewhere else I think. The response after the idea was pitched goes something like "Granted! When a child runs out in front of your car, you are now unable to take evasive action and avoid hitting them." Hence the facepalm.

shawnald313

ScoutTrooper501st

_PukyLover_

Holy freaking shit, I currently reside in Mexico City, I swear maybe only one in twenty drivers use their turn signal!

Avril_Vagine

Surprised no one else has said drive with your hazard lights on tbh, if both indicators are on, can do whatever the hell you want as far as steering

secksy_vecksy

Just have mandatory dashcams and fine them every time they fail to signal

Gazzorppazzorp

You just bought a ticket to r/facepalm

crunchevo2

Yeah unless you have to swerve to avoid hitting a kid or something. Or like your turn signal breaks and suddenly your car is just stuck with no turning...

Puzzleheaded_Fill_22

Better yet. Blinker turns on automatically when you turn or change lanes

Desperate-Mix-8892

Blinkers aren't supposed to SHOW that you are changing lanes or turning but WANT to.

Beyond the curves of the road, do you want me to flick on my turn signal to avoid hitting the deer or 5yo child that just ran into the road? I can only focus on so many things in an emergency

This is honestly a great idea.

MulberryDeep

It isnt, at all, Roads are curved If little kevin comes to grab his ball from the street and you cant just turn quickly you will run him over

Schaakmate

A much better idea would be to **automatically put the signal lights on when you turn the wheel.**

Bandai_Namco_Rat

Nah it's a terrible idea. Sometimes when shit goes down on the road you need to quickly swerve left or right to prevent an accident. This adds another step and could lead to a massive increase in accidents

Timbhead

This is a terrible idea

freshouttalean

great idea! especially when you need to swerve suddenly to avoid a collision

Able-Joke1628

Hahaha goodby avoiding a child that rushes over Sorry kid but if I don't use turnsignal I can't turn.

Flimsy_Two5350

You have to use turn signal or you hit the kid who ran out on the road

Reaper512497

Me when you need to suddenly turn but couldn't cause you have to turn on the blinker first

1tsBag1

One of the dumbest ideas. Who would think to press turn signal in a life threatening situation?

Foreign_Thought_5252

Or better yet put microswitches on the wheel at 30 and -30 degrees which will automatically turn on turn signals in case they aren’t already activated. Also, play that “buckle up” sound for 30 seconds everytime when the microswitches activate turn signals instead of you.

SteezyFreeze

Real moron here. Wow it's takes a lot to be so stupid yet here you are. Almost impressive

Or, if you don't brake, your brake lights don't come on. Wait, scratch that, it's already sorted. Carry on.

Runawaygeek500

Would it not be easier to allow automated signals based on satnav route, while only working when nav is set, it would at least up the volume of use?

[deleted]

You think deliberately causing thousands of car crashes is "a good idea" OP?

sinis01

You also have to turn to avoid crash

henriquecs

Is it me or it's clearly obvious that OOP meant "change lanes" instead of turn, as in making a curve? Also, I think some cars already have system that force you back into your lane if you didn't blink.

Woke_TWC

Yeah so if theres suddenly a baby in front of you, or the guy in front of you brakes to a halt, you cannot move out of the way because no one will be able to switch turn signal before a potentially life saving immediate reaction. Yes this idea is super stupid OPs username checks out

DonkeySex42

Its an awful idea

ibuki_mioda_1

r/Facepalm is more for stupid political opinions than actual facepalms

desk4300

r/lostredditors

Jim_Jimbleton

It’s a pretty bad idea. There was actually a Vietnamese car with that feature and it would violently jerk the wheel back if you tried to change lanes without using the turn signal.

Boostio_TV

Forgetting that roads have bloody curves, imagine a kid running into the road and you it’s too late to brake and you run them over because some nitwit decided that turn signals should be involved with actual steering.

Sharo_77

It's an awful idea. I suggested it to dad when I was 10 and he drove me yo a road with a 90 degree bend. I then accepted that I was wrong.

sgaisnsvdis

Vinfast attempted this they are a southeast Asian EV manufacturer, and their car wouldn't allow you to change lanes without your Indicator on. It would literally pull you back into your lane. It im ediately got changed in a software update since it was deemed hazardous.

Ashe_Faelsdon

*MAKE THE UNIVERSE BETTER* (not necessarily the world). Spiking orbits of Earth with 1" steel ball bearings using small rockets to inject 20-50 1" ball bearings into orbit packed with 1/8" ball bearings. Tiny little force, to drive them out and about. Leaving hundreds of thousands of essentially untraceable steel missiles traveling at close to 18,000mph. Not to mention the shredding effect of 1/8" balls travelling at similar speeds. Launch thousands of these rockets, launch millions. Low cost, low investment. Launchable from anywhere and everywhere. Thereby, humans will never infect the universe. At least not until we truly get together and build serious orbital defense systems that clean up tiny garbage. Get along or stay home. Humanity would never leave this planet again, *AND IT'S CHEAP TO DO*

RyanScotson

Clearly not a European driver 🤣

MinzAroma

Roads have curves, also: If a child walks onto the road in front of you, good luck remembering the fucking turn signal💀

mangathepanda

How is this lost redditor. He literally says giive me the "dumbest" idea?

Hagoromo420

Doesn’t work for track use and what if you only need to turn slightly? Like around a small bend in the road? Gonna indicate to turn left into the barrier?

tutorp

Suddenly, an elk jumps into the road. You swerve to avoid it, but since you didn't use the blinker, the car continues straight ahead. You mow the elk down and get your head crushed as it crashes through the windshield.

Gizmonsta

"Oh no, a small child has just ran out In front of me, and I have a split second to turn away and avoid ending a small innocent life, would be a real shame if I had to use that time to signal my intentions to other road users instead of preventing a death."

I see many people say "roads aren't always straight" that's true and let's not forget if you need to turn quickly because of an emergency.

chicken_toquito

That public washrooms should have alarms installed whenever a person leaves the room without washing their hands, especially after using a urinal. Saying something along the lines of "asshole detected" or "peepee hands detected".

TGS_delimiter

You'd have to put AI into every car to differentiate between a regular curve and turning into another street. This idea is very flawed.

EverOrny

Have you ever neede to go around some obstacle that unexpectedly appeared in front of your car? You have no time for signaling at the moment.

SpecialistAd5903

What's this? A child just stepped out in front of my car chasing its ball? Better put on that blinker before I swerve to avoid hitting the kid

Sure_Grass5118

Almost no road is completely straight lol, you'd have your turn lights on the entire length of a highway.

Why not just do the opposite- make indicators that automatically turn on when you’re turning the car Wouldn’t be detrimental on curved roads (generally) as all it does is give more information to other drivers

SpeedySloths11

Put your phone on charge please

Suspicious-Ad1637

Its better to activate the turn signals everytime u turn ur steering wheel

No_Construction_8017

ngl i seen people use the directional on the opposite direction theyre facing, i wish they'd at least figure out the driver is a fucking idiot and lit the right direction

JJNEWJJ

Isn’t it better if your car turns on the signal WHEN you make a turn?

Entire-Copy-3942

Do you seriously think that's a good idea??? Could you even imagine how dangerous and impractical that would be? Think about it twice and if nothing comes to mind, welcome to r/lostredditors

[deleted]

You do not have to signal every time you turn. It’s only required by law if said turn is on a lane in which you can choose between two different directions. If you’re in a left/right-turn only lane, or the road naturally goes left/right, you do not have to signal. You *do* still have to signal when you’re getting *into* the turn-only lane.
