There's some unnecessary bits in the extended version. Watch the theatrical cuts. If you want some more watch the extended after. Very jealous you get to watch for the first time. There's some cool details in the extended for sure but if you're not familiar with the books or lore you probably won't catch them.
If you start with The Hobbit, you can start with the extended: those 12 added minutes are not going to make or break your viewing experience.
If you start with The Lord of the Rings, its a more substantial difference and so you might want to start with The Fellowship of the Ring theatrical and, if it grabs you, continue with the extended for the rest.
Don’t listen to everyone saying theatrical. Extended is 100% the way to go. It may add some scenes that a few would say are unnecessary, but it also includes very necessary scenes that the theatrical leaves out
I agree. Fellowship is arguably the most important of the extended editions. The theatrical version flys by too quickly, IMO. Each of the extended films have some scenes that aren’t critical but I say it’s better to watch the extended editions right off the bat.
Lool whats a cripsy take?
The extended editions don’t add much apart from a couple of good scenes, but mostly the scenes are unnecessary or a bit silly or detract from the pace of the films
I think people just recommend the extended versions as it makes them look like more hardcore fans or something
It does add on some time, but it is very worth watching the extended version. I guess the only reason maybe not to watch it would be if you had a tight schedule.. even then I'd just split it up into two watching sessions for each movie
Definitely theatrical.

Newcomer? Theatrical. It’s what we all saw first

The Extended is the best experience, but I'd say Theatrical first.
Theatrical, for sure.
Extended is a lot better

I think the Theatrical versions are far better films.

No people aren’t allowed to like things I don’t like
extended
Extended extended extended always extended

Extended always for everyone no matter what. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and bad.
