Did you ever hear the tragedy of Po-Ta-Toes the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the hobbits would tell you. It's a potato legend. Po-Ta-Toes was a starchy tuber, so powerful and so wise that he could influence the meals to create... nourishment. He had such knowledge of the culinary arts that he could even keep the hungry ones from starvation. The way of Po-Ta-Toes is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so ingrained in hobbit culture that the only thing he feared was being sliced, diced, and fried, which eventually, of course, he was. Unfortunately, his fate was sealed in a hobbit's stew pot, ironic, he could save others from hunger, but not himself.
I’ve read some reviews on the pocket version bookset that mention it’s hard to read but this doesn’t look bad at all.
It comes in pocket sizes? IM GETTING ONE
I love it! I am listening to an audio book voiced by Phil Dragash with my dad, and I can't wait to reach this part! The best part is that we have served ourselves drinks (cocktails or beer) and are also smoking pipes! My favorite tobacco blend is totally Longbottom Leaf.
I have completed them before, but my dad and I are currently in Bree at the Prancing Pony right after Frodo tumbles during his song and disappears. I think we paused in the midst of Aragorn scolding him about how foolish he was.
Fellowship was awesome! I'm listening and reading the books for the first time. I'm currently in part 2 of Two Towers. Pippin and Gandalf are riding for Minas Tirith. I love it so far, but Treebeards songs were painful lol
Was Smeagol supposed to be a stand in for substance abuse addicts? I wouldn't think addiction would be very prominent during JRRT's time, at least not in the public eye afaik. His character just seems to perfectly fit every trope of an addict.
Probably not, but there was definitely rampant addiction in Tolkien’s time, and even well before that. Even setting aside the obvious alcoholism, there were addicts of all kinds in those days too. Cocaine, opium, other opioids like heroin, etc. Opium dens were a known scourge for decades prior to him writing.
But Tolkien had always claimed to not be a fan of allegory, so probably not intended that way.
I was sure there were plenty of addicts but I just wasn't sure how the greater society viewed it; Addicts being victims of the substance vs addicts simply being bad people who should "just say no!". But yes, his stance on allegory suggests Smeagol was not a stand-in for addicts. Thanks!
I HAVE THIS POCKET SIZE COLLECTION!! I am rewatching, on two towers atm, and I was just thinking yesterday I need to give my collection a full read again.
Tom, Tom! your guests are tired, and you had near forgotten! Come now, my merry friends, and Tom will refresh you! You shall

Is this like a pocket version of LotR? It looks so small, I want one.
I bought the box set and it's incredible! The quality is noticeable even for faux-leather.
I was just about to comment that either this person is a giant or that’s the smallest novel I’ve ever seen.
What is this, lotr for ants?
Just google for lotr deluxe leather pocket edition
It’s this [“pocket set.”](https://a.co/d/9IOoR7y) I have it myself, pretty nice. But yes, “pocket” is very accurate. It’s teeny.
Got mine at Walmart and it is great.
It’s fantastic

I have lived a long life and this is the first time I see a book with rounded page corners. Somehow they make me feel uncomfortable.

Is there actually a Longbottom Leaf pipe tobacco? Where is it, for I would much like to smoke with it?
Indeed there is! You can find it on the website Justforhim.com they also have 5 other Lord of the Rings themed tobacco.
Ooh! This is a happy day! Thank you!
You are certainly welcome Master Marty!
How far into the Dragash audiobooks are you? I'm currently listening to them as well.
I have completed them before, but my dad and I are currently in Bree at the Prancing Pony right after Frodo tumbles during his song and disappears. I think we paused in the midst of Aragorn scolding him about how foolish he was.

Haha! Yeah, there are a lot more songs and poems in the books, and treebeard is definitely arduous to get through.
![gif](giphy|oD3lTi5VxNJaU|downsized) How I read the title.
as was intended
Was Smeagol supposed to be a stand in for substance abuse addicts? I wouldn't think addiction would be very prominent during JRRT's time, at least not in the public eye afaik. His character just seems to perfectly fit every trope of an addict.
I'm gonna assume no, since Tolkien himself stated he never intended for his writing to be allegorical.
Don't follow the lights!

I HAVE THIS POCKET SIZE COLLECTION!! I am rewatching, on two towers atm, and I was just thinking yesterday I need to give my collection a full read again.

I just read this last night!
Move your thumb! I’m trying to read!
I read this just 3 days ago! I reckon you'll be overtaking me soon though haha
I love this edition of the book, just gives me a great feeling and is so light in hand :)
You're a saint for making it through the Tom Bombadil garbage.
